I have Norton, and that's like 80 dollars. But I'll have to look into that. It does a scan every time my computer is on idle. But I just got my laptop a little over a month ago so if I did have a virus that would make me mad.

Okay I think I fixed the problem. Thanks. I've just lost confidence in my virus scanner and I figured out Windows Defender was turned off :S But it did fix something and I removed some programs and now I don't have any more popups, but hopefully I don't get them again. I'm all so brillant with computers

Unfortunately, it comes default with almost every copy of Windows 7.

Only reason I use it is because it's the only antivirus my university network accepts. -_-

I'm using IE 7, and very content with it. While I like firefox, I'm not going to download something I don't need. And I can't stand Chrome.

A fair bit unfortunate though... No one ever bothers updating the browsers in school computers ><

It's free, and in my opinion much better than the ones you have to pay for.

Word. Doesn't slow down my computer, never had a virus issue. Can't ask for more.

*cough* antivirus isn't necessary *cough* Only way you'l get a virus is if you do something incredibly dumb. Heck, I "borrow" things from a certain website all the time and have never once got a virus.

I recommend a monthly checkup using MalwareBytes though. It is one of the best virus/malware scanners available.

Actually, not true. You can get a virus in any number of ways, and you don't need to explicitly download anything to your computer in order to get a virus. In fact, it's very easy for any website operator to plant a virus on your computer through a javascript file.

Of course, not doing stupid stuff dramatically decreases your chances of getting a computer virus. But, it doesn't eliminate them.

Yea, I believe they are called "driveby viruses" by some people. I do agree that it is (sadly) extremely probably that you will get a virus by some random happen chance. It also sucks that you can get one and your antivirus may not even pick it up.

The problem is simply that windows was made for the average person. If not for windows computers and the digital age would've been completely slowed, and if anything, everyone using computers would be a lot more aware of things if they were stuck using Linux and Mac. Windows has so many little secrets and files hidden around the system that it's so easy for a hacker to hide things. How many of you know how to get to AppData? :p Google Docs even hides files on your computer. Just by viewing images I guess there's ways that things could be called to download stuff without you ever knowing. The problem is simply that many people don't know what a browser even is, and Microsoft is in control and if you run a computer on XP your going to have an old browser by default. I blame Microsoft! LOL. :p

But please people go with Firefox or Chrome. They all read webpages differently and IE reads things so different it puts a lot of strain on Web designers/Webmasters.
