About 19% of YWSers are still using Internet Explorer 8. I beg of you: please stop! Not only is it a very buggy browser, but YWS also loads much slower and looks much worse in IE 8.

Here are some good alternatives:
Chrome Frame: This is just a plug-in for your browser that will keep absolutely everything looking exactly the same as before. Yet, you will get all the benefits of Google Chrome.

Internet Explorer 9: IE 9 actually isn't bad, and it's better than Chrome or Firefox in a few ways. Unfortunately, it's only available for Vista and Windows 7. Still, if you have one of those two (as the vast majority of you do), upgrade!

Get Google Chrome: Chrome is a great browser. It's fast, sleek, and easy to use. There's no excuse really for using IE over Chrome.

Get Firefox: If you want a lot of customization, Firefox is your friend. There are tens of thousands of different themes, including even a YWS theme.

So please, stop using Internet Explorer 8. It's a terrible browser.

I<3YOUGOOGLECHROME.

But seriously, guys, listen to Nate. I used to get so many bugs from Internet Explorer, but I'm bug-free with Google Chrome, plus it's far, far faster.
I didn't know what to put here so I put this.

The only niggle I have with the newest version of Firefox is that I still haven't been able to work out how to switch the spell check from American English to British English. Too many Zs, not enough Us!
please grant me my small wish; (love me to the marrow of my bones)

Firefox or chrome! IE 9 is pretty excellent as well. I'm technically a chrome kid, but I'm using Firefox right now. There's a computer lab at school who uses an older version of IE. Can't remember if it's 6 or 7. But they're updating stuff on those computers this summer, so hopefully it'll be prettier!

Also, I missed the memo on the Firefox theme. I totes ganked it.

Yeah, Firefox is my web browser of choice too. I love it because it's heavily customizable, not just the themes and aesthetics, but for increased functionality too. I've become heavily dependent on Greasemonkey scripts and tab groups to make browsing better, so much so that I even carry a portable version of Fox that I can boot from a USB drive. I use Google Chrome occasionally, but utterly shun Internet Explorer.

I think just to spite me, usage of Internet Explorer 8 actually ticked UP after this post.

Also, did you know that there is someone on YWS who still uses Internet Explorer 4? I'm not even sure how that's possible.

If that's me, it's because I use the old computer at my house. >.> But I think it probably isn't me.

Woo, Chrome!
I like you as an enemy, but I love you as a friend.

I'm having a huge issue with ads when I used FireFox. I used to use it all the time and it was my main brouser because I only had Windows XP and IE 9 didn't support XP, but after I got my new laptop and upgraded I had both of them that I used, but Firefox started to make a pop-up ad everytime I went to a site, and I knew it wasn't just the site because it was doing it with Facebook and every other site I tried. I finally got sick of it. Only problem is Flash player doesn't support IE 9 with a 64 bit operating system, so I have to still use Firefox for games and other stuff. I got it to work with videos, but not anything else. But perhaps I'll have to look into Google Chrome, because that's the only one I haven't tried yet.

Stargazer ->> Sounds like you either have a virus or your computer is infected with malware. If Firefox was the reason behind the pop-up ads, then don't you think everyone would be complaining about it? ;)

If you don't have an anti-virus program on your computer, go download Avast:
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

It's free, and in my opinion much better than the ones you have to pay for.

Also, since you have Windows, use Windows Defender:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/produc ... fault.mspx

It'll prevent pop-ups and get rid of spyware. You should already have it on your computer.

First, you should probably run Defender and see if that gets rid of the pop-ups. If not, then run Avast. If you still have pop-ups after running Avast, have Avast do a boot-time scan (you'll see an option for this when you start up Avast). A boot time scan requires you to restart your computer, and it runs an anti-virus check before your computer completely starts. You can only catch certain viruses with a boot-time scan.

Hope that helps! :)
