Books You Want To Read

This is a bit different from a lot of other reading threads. In this case, I want you to list a book or two that you really want to read but haven't yet.

I'll start!


Lost in Shangri-La by Mitchell Zuckoff

It's been on my Kindle for almost a month now, but haven't got around to reading it yet. It's about a group of soldiers stranded on New Guinea in World War II and the incredible attempts made to rescue them.

Kafka on the Shore by Murakami

Been meaning to forever.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

I'd be surprised if you haven't heard of it. I think it was a big hit a few years ago. It's been sitting on my bookshelf collecting dust for the past ten months and I just haven't come around to it yet. I hope to read it this summer, y'know, with all that free time I have. (Liar: you have no free time this summer.)

Great idea! I'll be coming back here annoyed if I've not read at least one of these in the next few weeks.

A People's Tragedy by Orlando Figes

Apparently it's meant to be a fantastic history of the Russian revolution, but we're talking 900 massive pages and a tiny font... not for bedtime reading, I'm thinking.

Saturday by Ian McEwan

I bought this a couple of years ago and got about 100 pages in - his style was too dense for my 15 year-old self! heh. But I've had to read his Enduring Love for English lit and I really enjoyed that, so I think it's time to try again!

There's a few I've been meaning to check out, but I guess I'll go with: Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston. I was too chicken to see the movie(127 Hours). D: But I wouldn't be surprised if I still passed out reading . . .Gruesome.

I want to read Kafka on the Shore too!

Other than that, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Because I've never read any Dickens and I've been told that that's a bit of a crime. Also, I'm planning on reading Othello the play this summer.

That is a bit of a crime! it is a very good book.

I have wanted to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy for I don't know how long. I have started them countless times, but I never have gotten much past the Tom Bombadil part.

Oh, gods, this list is a thousand miles long for me.

Me Talk Pretty One Day,[/b] by Dave Sedaris. Now owned and to be read... eventually.

[i]Crime and Punishment, by Tolstoi. Because I'm reading War and Peace right now and am absolutely, thoroughly, in love.

Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, so I can say I don't like Austen and know what I'm talking about...or so that I can change my mind and know what I'm talking about.

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

It seems fascinating in a twisted way.

1984 by George Orwell

I've had it on my bookshelf for a year or so but haven't got further than a few chapters yet.

The Egyptian by Mika Waltari

It's one of the most internationally successful Finnish books and a huge classic over here. I've had this book for years and I started to read it when I was probably like 10 or something, but then it felt a bit tedious. But I need to read this book some time.

I need to get past 10 pages this time.

Slaughterhouse 5- Kurt Vonnegut

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
'Cause I've only read two books by Dickens and I saw the movie and loved it.

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
For lovers of Jane Austen, I recommend the TV series. It is love. I've not read the book yet but I've heard loads of great things about it. Apparently it's quite modern for it's time.

The Lord of the Rings
I can't believe that I haven't read these books yet. I've been meaning to though. Sometime soon. I think. I hope.

War And Peace by Leo Tolstoy.

Moby Dick by Herman Melville.
Can't say how many times I've started this. >.<

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.
I've actually started this and...I'm trying really hard not to quit.

I really want to read MZD's Tree of Codes. It's not released yet, but I'm SUPER excited for it. He's one of my favorite author's of all time. I'd type out his whole name but I don't know how to spell it, so I won't.

All ya'll need to read House of Leaves. Like, now.

EDIT: Hah. That's funny. I got my author's switched up. Tree of Codes is written by Jonathan Safran Foer, who wrote Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Got my author's mixed up for a moment!

My list is ever-growing, and I've a pile upstairs. A few I remember:

The Kane Chronicles and Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. I enjoyed the Percy Jackson series, considering it was a YA series, and so I plan to steal these books from my sister at some point as well.

Vienna Prelude by Bodie and Brock Thoene. It's a historical fiction book about a blonde musician and her Jewish musician friend in Austria during WWII. My aunt and mom read a few books in the Zion Covenant series, so I plan to do so as well.

The Last Guardian by Jeff Grubb and Of Blood and Honor by Chris Metzen, both books in my World of Warcraft archive.
