The Everyday Survivors

The idea of Death is something that strikes fear into any and every mortal heart. To die is to give up. To give up is to leave everything.

But Death is not something experienced alone.

In bustling city of Manhattan, a group of humans have been born with the gift to see creatures that no one believes could exist. Creatures that, unlike any mythical beast of any fairy tale, give the appearance of being human.

That being said, two other races walk amongst men on earth. The Darkling’s and the Imp’s. These two species are mortal enemies of each other. The Darkling’s are creatures created to protect human life whilst the Imp’s were created to become it, while destroying it at the same time.

The Seers (the group of humans which can see the second world) know very little about both races except what they can learn from each of these beings. That being said, this group must come up with their own opinions of the other inhabitants of the world, whether that love or shun.

The Darkling’s:
~ Protectors of life. Their job is to find and protect a human force. When the death of that human ultimately comes, so does the death of the Darkling. One is attached so intimately in that manner.

Humans:
~ Seers. The humans in this storybook shall be able to see the Darkling’s and the Imp’s for what they are. That being said, they shall also be able to see the second-world.

The Imps:
~ Destroyers of human life. These Creatures want to be human more than anything else. Unfortunately, the only way to become human would be to take the life of a human by having them utter their name. This human must also be a seer and able to see the second-world.


Object of the Storybook:

To show the struggles between the three groups as the Darkling’s and the Imp’s hate each other. The Imp’s, as second-world creatures, are not unfeeling. Some may be but that is up to you whether or not you feel that your Imp should have enough spite for the human race to not care whether or not one should have to die.

If you so choose the Darkling, or the protectors of death, you shall be given the right to find and protect a human. That being said, the Darkling’s and the Imp’s cannot be seen. (This is subject to change )
If you choose the human, you shall be given the freedom of choice to love that of the Darkling’s or the Imp’s. Your hatred could be spurned by either or. If you feel pity for the Imp’s and hate the Darkling’s for wanting the end of them, you have that choice. If you should love the Darkling’s and fear the Imp’s for their want of human life, that is also of your own doing.

I'm looking for about 15 people for this storybook though I'm willing to go above or below that said amount within reason. I will take spot claiming but only if you make your profile within the days of claiming that spot. I would also like the amount of humans to be equal with the amount of Darkling's. The Imp's should have the least amount of members.

Brief personality description: She's robotic. That is the word most used to describe her personality. She has perfect control over her emotions and therefore doesn't show them. Sometimes it makes her look cold and heartless. There is in fact some times where she really doesn't care about what you have to say... for example she doesn't want to hear about your horrible day and she doesn't want to hear about your latest breakup with a person she doesn't even know. What she does care for is if someone has seriously injured you emotionally or physically. Then she will stand up for you. She hates it when the strong hurt the meek and defenseless.

History: She grew up as the dorky kid with glasses. Often teased and bullied. She had enough when it came to middle school. She completely changed her appearance, she got contacts, did her hair everyday (which took a good amount of time). But to her dismay it didn't help. She was still bullied. So she trained herself to just... not care anymore. Or at least not show she cared.

Appearance: He is very small at a height of 5'4 and very sickly. His skin is pale and pallid in color and his eyes are a wide, azure blue. He has an ashy blond hair and a very lithe build. He has long, slender fingers as he plays the piano freguently. He never goes swimming, though when he does he wears a t-shirt, because he hates the fact that his skin is so light and that you can see outlines of his ribcage.

Brief personality description: He is a little shy because he never really went out much when he grew up. He doesn't fear death nor does he fear the Imp's. If anything, he is rather neutral. Because of this, the Darkling's think him Naive whilst the Imp's find him soft-hearted and kind.

When it comes to the people he loves, he is very much protective though he can't really do anything about it. His body is very weak in comparison to that of normal humans, but even so he tries with all his might. The problem is, he has a hard time explaining what he wishes to, and when it comes down to it, the words usually come out all wrong.

He has a soft spot for Emma because she has been his bestfriend and Darkling for two years. He also cares for Titus and does not doubt him in the least. If Titus should betray him, then that is how it will be. It never really mattered to him whether he should live or die. The fact that Emma should die because of him, though, scares him immensely.

History: His mother is a lawyer. His father died when he was young. He grew up being homeschool and hardly ever left the apartment his mom owned. The only times he ever ventured out where to get books from the library in which case he was exposed to people on the buses and subways. Today, he is sicker than ever.

His only friend and companion is Emma. For that, he trusts her and only her with anything and everything that comes to himself and what he feels. Even then, he has a hard time explaining it to her. If anything, the only person he ever really speaks to, other than small talk, is Emma.

The only other person (or creature) he communicates with would be Titus though very rarely. Whenever he sees him on the city bus or subway. He never speaks to Titus when Emma's around for fear that she will be upset with him for keeping such ill company.

Other: Up for love ;D. He is a pianist. He's loves collecting information on things, though, she he ends up writing down anything and everything interesting about the second-world that he can find. There is hardly a time where he doesn't have a red hilroy note-book underneath his arm. He also adores coffee and has a serious sweet-tooth.

I paid for this, therefore I might as well throw myself in here. Saving a spot for Dream's character's Darkling. Wooo.

Appearance:
Titus is tall, around the height of 6"2. He has a medium build, and is moderately muscular, just not over done. He has bright and friendly features including a perfect smile with unbelievably white teeth, which he uses often. It is almost never that you see him without his smile. He is darkly tanned, darker then the picture provided, and has chestnut brown hair, which is usually slightly shaggy. Though he prefers it long, almost to his shoulders where it curls. His hair changes length due to his not being human. The most alarming feature of his is his bright red eyes. If you look at them, you can almost feel like your life is being drained away, or the secret danger behind him. They are unsettling.

He usually wears shorts that go to the knee even in the middle of winter, though sometimes he wears a pair of dark black jeans. He also usually wears common band t-shirts, usually staying within the darker theme. He also wears a pair of sunglasses when walking outside, along with a New York Yankees baseball cap.

Brief personality description:

Titus is enthusiastic and self confident. He knows he is good-looking and abuses that quite often especially when he realizes he finds a Seer. Unfortunately, his looks don't work on the same sex. Titus is smooth talking, witty, and laid-back. He doesn't do anything unnecessarily. He has a weak spot for girls though, so finds himself unable to cause them harm. That is why he has his heart set on getting a male human to speak his name (Brady). He appears friendly to everyone, and oddly mellow.

Though really he is full of contempt and hatred. He hates the human race and the Darklings, for reasons in the history. He is easily irritated, and hates it when he doesn't get his way. He gets incredibly snarky and is prone to violence when provoked.

History:

Asmodeus is the name of all the male Imps in all his generations of family. His family is one of the original Imp lines, and has not been able to end the line by becoming human once more. He is the last one left in his line, and he wishes to end it once and for all.

His line goes back to ancient Persia, where the original Asmodeus fell in love with a human girl. Asmodeus knew she was sick, and wished to protect her, so he scared any male suitors that came by, either through violence or unnatural happenings. Then finally a new fiancee, a Darkling, drove him away with the smell of burning flesh. That hatred has been passed through all the generations until this last being, Titus.

His parents died when he was young, but not young enough to have missed their chance to further instill this hatred. Titus has come to New York in hopes of finding a human in which would be foolish enough to say his name. There he found a small frail boy named Brady and knew at that moment that that was the poor creature who would fall for it.

Other:

He has a sensitive sense of smell, and such smells like burning flesh or plastic will repulse him and make him disappear for a time. Titus also gets entrapped by music, any kind whether it be rock or nursery rhymes. It is almost hypnotizing to him. Up for Love.

Race: Darkling (Brady)
Gender: Female
Age: 19

Physical:
Emma is about 5'4", thin and frail, with long arms and legs (though she's quite fluid in all her movements). She has big blue eyes framed with long lashes, an extremely pale complexion that matches Brady's, and curly, light brown hair that's naturally a pallid blonde at the tips. She has a soft bone structure and a small mouth (which is also pale in colour). Her lips tend to tremble as do her hands though she tries her best to remain poised. Her voice is soft, and cracks from time to time because her constant cough has worn down her voice. Emma isn't in the greatest shape since she bonded with Brady and he became ill(er).

Brief personality description:
She's a silent Darkling, and tends not to open her mouth too much unless she's speaking to someone she trusts. Around strangers Emma is rather closed in on her herself and tends to get away as quickly as possible, truthfully, she's frightened by people with large personalities. She's patient and attentive to everything happening around her, and has always had a fascination of observing people. She reads atrocious amounts of books and likes to sit quietly in someone's company. Despite being quiet, she's willing to fiercely defend Brady's life from any Imps, though she's not necessarily sure how well she could protect him. So far she's remained silent and hidden away, watching from the shadows thinking that perhaps surprise is her best defense against Imps.

Emma isn't impulsive, but she thinks things through without really thinking of the consequences very much. She likes to follow her gut because it's the only thing that's guided her this far in life where she could avoid killing any Imps, nor be killed by one. Being Brady's Darkling makes her immensely happy, though she doesn't share it, because she'd been rather alone for the majority of her life and his company is reassuring for her.

She doesn't pity Imps because she feels the fact they kill is terrible, but she doesn't hate them either. Emma isn't much for a fight, rather she's simply curious to why things work this way. She'd talk to an Imp to get to know that if she wasn't so terrified of showing herself and if most didn't want to kill her.

History:

Prior to being Brady's Darkling, Emma grew up rather alone without many people she interacted with. Her parents left on a world-wide hunt for Imps when she was seven leaving her behind in the hands of the some other Darklings she rarely saw. Her early life was comfortable though monotone, so she filled it with books and long nights alone. She moved to Manhattan at the age of 16 out of curiosity into a little flat, and that she no longer wanted to stay in the big empty house.

Finally, Emma chose Brady at the library on a February afternoon when she was sitting reading a book. Brady sees her sitting in the corner, and smiles at her because she's reading his favourite book, David Copperfield. Emma (who is invisible as she always is) realizes he's a Seer and that he's ill. On whim, Emma decided, out of her long silence, deep loneliness and sympathy for this boy she decides to become his Darkling. And they've become good friends over the past two years and often Emma falls asleep at Brady's house in a big chair on the other side of his room (invisible to everyone but him of course)

Other: Up for love. Coughs a lot. Tends to wear simple clothing in the neutral tones, flats and her hair is almost always up in a bun. Usually has a book in hand, though she may not be reading it at all. Bad habit of stumbling when she's preoccupied, thinking about something.

Name: Lacey (Second name: Avi)

Race: Imp

Gender: Female

Age: 15

Appearance: Short, straight, choppy black hair, with split ends and side bangs that are shiny bright red at the top gradienting into a light blonde on the bottom. Extremely vivid green eyes. A smattering of freckles across her nose and the tops of her cheeks. Very thin, almost underweight. Favors ballet flats, skinny jeans and a flowery top as an outfit, though she regularly switches to old beat-up Converse.

I'm really pleased with this picture. I found it after describing what Lacey looks like and found it to be a pretty good representation except Lacey looks younger, is much skinnier (not that this girl is fat...) and her hair is not in her face. She also has the red/orange/blonde streak for her bangs and I imagined her hair a little thinner.

Brief personality description: She's kind of loony. Internally, she's obsessed with the thought of a human life and becomes almost creepily attached to any human she meets. Externally, she's sweet and kind if not a bit spacey. She loves adventures and mysteries. She has an abandonment issue and has the logic that 'They're gonna leave her so she has to leave them' which is why cannot live in a place for very long. She is a thief and gets very close to people before stealing anything they have and dissapearing.

History: She has lived in Berlin, London, New York, Paris, Juno, Colorado, Casablanca, Beirut and is currently in "Where ever the storybook is set". She's fluent in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Croatian. She loves movies, specifically old Woody Allen ones and she idolizes Marilyn Monroe. She was orphaned as a child when her Imp parents were killed by Darklings. She was raised as a human child in an orphanage before being adopted at age three. Her adoptive parents were very loose with her and worked all the time, so she basically raised herself. When she was ten, she found out via email what she was from a friend of her mother, Anita. She stole money from her adoptive parents and ran away for the first time to London, where her mother's friend lived. Anita explained in full her point in life and told her not to go home. She visits Anita occasionally, when she needs money. She basically lives around the world, doing whatever she wants.

Other: I guess up for love. Sort of. Only if I find a guy character who I really think would fit with her. Plus he must be reeeeeeally patient. She runs away. A lot.

Appearance: Dark auburn hair with black streaks pale skin dark silvery blue eyes about 5'6 very willowy and graceful she's a gymnast so she is very flexible and strong. She is described as goth because she always wears dark colors.
Brief personality description: She is rather calm and prefers to listen to music and practice her gymnastics then go to the mall. She is rather sweet and kind in her own calm quiet way. She fears nothing except losing those she loves.
History: Her little sister died when she was 6 years old and she was 8 she misses her little sister and visits her grave whenever it's possible.
Other: Up for love. Loves music and is almost always singing or humming. She paints her nails different colors every day or when she's bored with the color. She talks to herself. She is addicted to caffeine. She has a gluten deficiency and if she doesn't have sugar every few hours she passes out. She loves to draw.

I think that the Imps/Darklings should be able to be seen by other humans, only because the story would be kind of one-sided if they can't be.

Brief personality description: Ean, like his name is generally cold towards people; even with other Darklings. He always view things in a detached sort of way, like he's off somewhere else. Though if you manage to melt through his exterior he would be one of the best friends you ever had.
History: Ean's parents were killed by Imps in a fire when he was 11, causing him to hate the Imps. He often becomes torn between the lesson his parents taught him (protect the Seers) or ridding the world of the Imps. He never learned about his family history, and isn't very associated with other Darkling's either, as he has spent the last 1o years of his life tracking down Imps and slaying them. He has yet to bond with a Seer, and is starting to feel pressured to. He has been in New York for just over a month; chasing a pair of Imps through Manhattan. That is of course until he met his first bond Morgan...
Other: Is NOT up for love (no one his age) and is obsessed with music (he has three iPods filled with all his playlists)
