Books that were made into GOOD movies

I know that most of us know of a good book that we raved about that was made into a movie that we hated, but what about books you liked that were adapted into movies that you liked?
I don't really have many examples for this...I personally liked the Series of Unfortunate Events series AND its movie... although many of you would probably disagree with that. It would be cool to see if you guys know of any books that were made into a enjoyable, good and FAITHFUL adaptions.

I enjoyed Series of Unfortunate Events, but I actually saw that before I read the books, so... XD

I really love the movie for City of Ember, but it can't really be considered very faithful to the books... They tweaked things here and there, spiced up the story with giant moles and the like... But it's a REALLY good movie, and it retains enough of the spirit of the book to make fans of that series spaz out with happiness.

How To Drain Your Dragon (though admittedly I haven't read it yet) and Angels and Demons. Great movies!

The Green Mile.

Please don't get mad... Harry Potter. I think the directors did an amazing job with such a huge amount of information. Maybe it's because I just saw the seventh movie today and that was on my mind, but also because books don't have special effects.

Memoirs of a Geisha was pretty amazing. And, um, Ella Enchanted (I watched with my little sister okay! )-it was a cute and funny movie, and I'm not really a fan of Gail Carson Levine. The Spiderwick Chronicles movie was pretty cool.

And last but not least... The Chronicles of Narnia. I know the books are classics, but C.S. Lewis is a little too old-fashioned and cheesy for me. Also, the books don't have Ben Barnes.

SO alot of nicholas spark books have been made into incredible movies. Like the notebook, message in a bottle, the last song, and dear john. All of those are really good books too and the movies rock. Another one would be "gone with the wind" it's a classic! Lovely bones was a really good book and a really good movie. Twilight books were good but the movies sucked. kk thats all (:

I Capture The Castle was pretty good and Angels and Demons as well. Same with Little Women. But Ella Enchanted? Really? That sucked in my opinion to the book...ruined my life. But its your opinion.

Harry potters, all but the 1st in my opinion.

I thought that Gone with the Wind was excellent and it stayed close to the book. Don't hate me, but I thought that every Harry Potter flick was good with the exception of the 5th one. Also I liked V for Vendetta based off the comic book.

The Lemoney Snicket movie, I liked, but they could have done A LOT better.

Anyway The heart above all things is deceitful by JT Leroy. I saw the film first which was AMAZING, they had three of the most underrated greatest child actors ever, Jimmy Bennett, Cole and Dylan Sprouse (I know what you're thinking those Disney twins! They can't act! They can't do comedy but watch this movie and you'll see how well they do Drama). It's a very serious movie, saw it before I read the book, and the movie actually helped me understand the book better. Though I was kind of disapointed to find that many of the parts in the book weren't used in the moive like one of my favorite characters Milkshake she was very interesting, I would have loved to see how she was portrayed. The only thing that I didn't like about the movie is that they ended the movie, where in the book they had serveral other chapters to go. But what they did show was stayed true to the book, in my opinion. Also in the movie Asia Argento, Michael Pitt, and Marilyn Manson.

All of the Harry Potter films were very well done, but seventh movie was my favorite. In the Deathly Hallows, the cinematography and production values were to die for, and you really saw how mature the series has gotten. I also really liked the Narnia movies, as well.

Definitely "The Green Mile," and the "Shawshank redemption."

Both classic tales. Amazing to think "Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption." Is only 132 pages long.

Film adaptations of Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion were good.

Bridget Jones' Diary is a post-modern masterpiece and the movie is really good as well.

The Narnia movies are amazing. I love the books as well but I love the movies equally.

Nicholas Sparks books suck, but they make for good movies.

Forrest Gump was originally a book and the movie is my absolute favorite movie of all time, so...

Lord of the Rings : all 3 parts. Brilliant.
