Iced tea doesn't go with pizza, so YES. IT'S WRONG.

Also, I claim austenite. MWHAHAHAHA.

0_o For some reason, I feel like Snoink belongs in Lord of the Flies.

Um. Also. Wish somebody had claimed me as a newbie :( Clearly this has affected my development as a human being. If people are concerned about mentoring, then the answer is to start unofficially mentoring newbies. And maybe that involves claiming them, I dunno *shrugs*.

Guilty, but if you ask me, we've all done it. What's so wrong about it...wait, scratch that. I can see how the newbies might feel here, but I PM them in chat, and I do a more subtle claim, like, hey, if you've got any questions or need help, feel free to PM me. I do think it's wrong for the whole

[Rasperrypancakes]: Hi! Are you new here?
[Newbienumber1]: Yes, I just registered yesterday.
[Rasperrypancakes]: OOH! NEWBIE CLAIM! NEWBIE CLAIM! :O

*Begins to suffocate newbie with information*

I mean, is this REALLY how we want to represent our site when these people come in? All they want when they see "Chat Room" is a place to sit back and have a nice, relaxing conversation with some fellow writers (Not that that ever HAPPENS), they don't want other newbies jumping all over them and fighting over who should "train" them, with the newbie having no say whatsoever in who's going to be handling them.

So then you ask yourself, is it right?

And you tell yourself, it depends :]

I actually hate when people claim newbies. I've only ever seen newbies do so in chat (and, if you've noticed, about 90% of the posts in this thread are from members who joined in 2010.) The chat becomes a "claiming station" - you should be talking about writing, or life, or something real, not claiming people.

I have claimed a few people in my day, but I don't think they really knew. Alwaysawriter, XxxDo, and more. I just start stalking them... responding to their questions, posting in their guestbook, critiquing all of their stuff, and helping the become a better member. And XxxDo is older than me by several years. The age doesn't matter at all.

So basically, I think claiming is fine if you don't actually "claim". I just pick favorites, people I feel have potential/need help/seem cool, and I attach myself to them. =]

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.
