TARRION
I stumbled through the trees with the box, Saph had taken to dragging the deer by the legs rather than carrying it. I stopped dead when I saw the tree we had tied Kyle to. The empty tree. "Shit!" I shouted, dropping the box. "Where the heck are Matt and Logan!?"
They stepped out of the tent followed by Wren and Gemma. They all stopped cold when they saw the empty tree. Where was Domi? My pulse quickened. No! No! No! He didn't! I dropped the kit on the ground and fell to my knees beside it, burying my head in my hands. I looked up and around for Annie. She had disapeared, too.
They were all suddenly beside me, talking at once. It was driving me nuts. "Would you all please be quiet?" I hissed through clenched teeth. "Please, I can't hear everybody at once!"
Gemma sat down beside me. "We'll find them. We can split up, some of us can go look for Annie and some of us can go look for Kyle and Domi."
I nodded, praying I wouldn't start tearing up. "W-we should open the b-box. There might be something we c-can use in it," I stuttered, prying the lid off.
I peered inside, trying to make sense of things. A small digital video camera sat on top and immediately grabbed my attention. I picked it up and flipped open the tiny screen and pressed the play button. A lady popped up and started talking, it made me shudder to be honest.
"You've made it this far, and I'm surprised. This kit should keep you going and ammused for a while. Think of it as a reward for making it this far. There will be more...eventually. Don't think things have started getting easy only to stay that way. We've got the beasts and the wolves with us, and they're coming back. You still haven't figured this out though, have you? Well, that's a good thing. Good bye my dears and good luck."
The screen faded to black and I threw the camera to the side, not the slightest bit interested in the lady's warnings. I pulled out two coils of rope, three metal padlocks, two packages of nails, a hammer, a hatchet. Everything in here was sort of useful, but I only wanted what would get me Domi back. I kept ripping stuff out, mind reeling. Three big packages of matches, a few butcher knives...I grinned at that. Three swiss army knives, a dozen or so chocolate bars, a box of canned sodas.
I glanced up at the others for a second, they were all staring back, expressionless. "There's a lot of stuff in here," I muttered absently. They all just nodded, so I turned back to the box, which was growing empty.
A large variety of painkillers and anti biotix and some throat candies. Gauze, real bandages, antiseptic ointment, vasaline. If Annie was still here... I teared up and quickly swiped at my face. Oh look...spices... Paper and pens, a couple small mosquitoe nets. At the very bottom there were four sheets folded to perfection.
"That's all she wrote folks. Can we go find Domi now?" I asked, tearing up again.
