Gabe

Oh. So that was her story. Poor Selene.

Laila looked Selene over pityingly. "Is there something you can do?" I asked Laila.

"I can't, not without breaking the rules," she said. I didn't even bother to ask what rules.

Selene
I smiled at Gabe. "Thanks Gabe your a good friend as are you Laila." I said smiling kindly at each of them. "And I really don't care what they do to me as long as they don't fuck with my family or friends." I said my voice growing cold and hard my eyes flashing dangerously.

Gabe

I nodded in agreement. "They already have," I said angrily. "Listen, Laila, one of those Fey almost killed Tanya yesterday! I'm not joking, either," I said. Tanya was my cousin. "She didn't know what it was, thought it was some kind of wild animal. Can't you hold them back?!"

"The Dark Fey can't be held back all the time," Laila said darkly.

Selene
I sighed and dug around in my pants pocket. I pulled out a few herbs and handed them to Gabe. "What is this?" He asked looking at them as they were going to explode. "Vervain and St. Johns root they help keep Dark Fey away from mortals without the sight." I said calmly as if it was the most rational thing in the world.

Gabe

I looked at her admiringly. Obviously she had done her homework whereas I had just tried to ignore my power. I felt kind of stupid.

"Thanks," I said gratefully. I'd put it in a necklace or something for the girls and stuff it into Tanner's backpack. That should do. "A lot."

"Well, that's a remedy for it I haven't seen a while," said Laila, "And quite a good one at that, I might add." I grinned.

Selene
I blushed. "I like to read and once I discovered that fey weren't in my imagination I did my research and came up with this." I said slightly embarrased. "Hey I was planning on going to a club would either of you like to come?" I asked.

Gabe

I grinned. "I'll come," I said, stuffing the herbs into my pocket- just in case. Laila turned into such a stunningly normal human form and said, "For a while won't hurt."

We walked down the road. It was late now, and I felt kind of underdressed for a club, considering I was wearing my school clothes, but ah well. We entered the club.

Selene
I felt myself relax even farther once inside the club and people especially boys kept turning to stare at me and Laila who even in her human form was beautiful. "ALRIGHT IT"S WENDESDAY YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!!!" The DJ shouted into the mike. "OPEN MIKE NIGHT!!!" The crowd shouted back. "That's right and for the newcomers I will explain it I will shine a spotlight on someone randomly in the crowd and they have to come up and sing a song of their choice." He said smiling as he said so. The light swept over the crowd and stopped on me I closed my eyes and groaned "Of freeking course." I muttered as the crowd gently pushed me forward. I stepped onto the stage and the DJ grinned at me. "What song sweetheart?" He asked. "'Imaginary' by Evanescence." I replied as he handed me the mike. I heard the music start I took a deep breath and started to sing. "Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming

And watch my purple sky fly over me" I finished singing and looked at the crowd they were silent for a few minutes and I was afraid they were going to boo me off the stage but they burst into wild applause and I blushed and smiled handing the mike back to the DJ I walked off the stage and back to Gabe and Lilian. "What did you guys think?" I asked smiling at them.

Gabe

I stared at her. Woh.

"That was amazing!" I burst out. "Wow! I didn't know you could sing!" Well, I didn't know much about her in the first place, but... I grinned. Now I knew she was an amazing singer. Awesome. I wondered if she knew how good she was. "When you went up there, I swear, you looked ready to murder," I said, laughing.

Selene
I laughed with Gabe. "Thanks alot. I just don't like to go first for this kind've thing." I said smiling at him. He smiled back and I couldn't help the thought that crossed my mind He's really cute and he's mortal too.

Gabe

"Five more songs and then we'll have the next Open Mike contestant," the DJ blared out. Good. There was five more songs to give me a chance to dance before I had a choice to openly embarrass myself.

Laila was asked to dance by a guy with brown hair, and she accepted as the next song began.

"Want to dance?" I asked Selene easily. I hoped she didn't think I was making a move on her and realized I wasn't pressuring her or anything.

Selene
"Sure." I said smiling at him. We walked out onto the dance floor and someone started to sing "Pon de Replay by Rihanna." I started to dance humming to the music. I laughed as Gabe danced all tense. I placed my hands on his arms and said "Relax Gabe let the music move you don't try to move the music." He followed my advice and actually started to dance relaxed.

Gabe

Okay, there are a couple of reasons asking her to dance had been pure nonsense. And all of them start with 'I Suck At--' but here's the shortened version- I suck at dancing. The one time I took a girl to the dance she was annoyed. I kept stepping on her toes.

"Relax, Gabe," she repeated again. OK, so it was really nice dancing with Selene. She was good at it- aren't all girls?- but she didn't seem to mind having to coach me. At least, I hoped not.

And, after a few seconds, I was actually getting the hang of it. Geez, this girl had to have some kind of a power for this. Either that or she was just really good at teaching me- or maybe it meant more to me to please her than the other girls.

Shut up, I told myself hurriedly. You barely know her.

We continued to dance, and I forgot the annoying voice in the back of my head pretty quickly when Selene smiled at me.

Selene
I felt more at ease with Gabe then anyone else I had ever met before. Someone started to sing 'Lips of an Angel.' and everyone around us started slowdancing and I looked at Gabe feeling myself blush like crazy.

Gabe

I had never had trouble with acting romantic around girls, but something about Selene wasn't the same. Maybe it was the fact that I had no reasons for liking her except because she was... her.

I put my arm around her waist and the other hand grabbed hers and she put her right hand on my shoulder. We slowly swayed back and forth. I had always been able to stop my face from turning red, but it was a close call today.

We slowly danced to the tune.
