Lament of Innocence

TARRION

"Amen," I murmered after Selene finished her prayer. I sighed and closed my eyes, willing our situation to be a nightmare. Where was Rajun? I hoped he was safe... "You ready Kale?" I whispered. The guards were still talking about things I really didn't want to hear, so there was no fear of us being overheard.

"I guess so."

"Good." Garrion was coming down the stairs with food, entering Kale's cell first. I heard them whispering to eachother and Garrion's quick agreeing. So far so good.

Aris

"What do you know of Rajun?"

I wanted to spit in her face right at that moment, so I was stupid and I did. She struck me across the face and said, "Tell me! And don't try that again!"

I looked towards her coldly. "Why would I betray his trust?"

"Because," she said quietly, a smile playing on her face, "If you don't, there will be concequences."

For god's sake, I was so sick of uncooperative prisoners. Aris looked away again, and I sighed. Well, at least I knew something - Rajun was part of the rebel forces and had been aiding Aris. So Selene must have been lying beforehand; I should have known not to trust her anyway.

Aris stayed mute, avoiding any eye contact. I closed my eyes for a moment, regretting my rash actions in slapping her. Obviously brute force would get me nowhere... Clearing my throat, I spoke again. "You know Rajun is heir to the throne?" I asked pleasantly. "Surely you want him to be found, so that he may resume his place in the kingdom? After all, he is a rebel sympathiser... Surely he would be the perfect King once my mother falls..... no?" I left the question hanging, hoping to put doubt in her mind. If she thought that Rajun could still be king...

Aris

I looked at her doubtfully. "...why would you let him be king when you can be Queen?" I asked finally.

Taeryn looked towards me and said, in a silkily calm voice, "Well, dearest, I don't want that position. I've never been one for power."

Was she lying? She had to be. But if Rajun had the chance to be king.... maybe Taeryn didn't know he was with us and wanted to honestly appoint him...

"I know where he is, but you'll have to make me a deal," I said finally.

TARRION

I grinned as the guards drunk themselves silly. Garrion was amoung them, sipping lazily. They'd be out cold in an hour. "Sel?" I whispered softly. I needed to hear her voice.

"What Tar?"

I actually had no clue what I was going to say. I hadn't thought that far ahead. "I-I love you." It sounded stupid, even to me, but it was the only thing that I could come up with.

Selene giggled and I grinned, closing my eyes.

"What makes you think you are in a position to bargain with me?" I asked coldly, and stared back determinedly.
"I won't tell you anything otherwise."

Ah, so naive. I was fairly sure that Selene had said something similar before feeding me some very useful information. Amongst some lies. Well, maybe if I wanted some quick information then a deal would be the way forward. "What is is?"

Aris seemed slightly taken aback that I'd agreed. "Let Kale go, and I'll tell you where Rajun is."

Silence washed over the room as I considered this. To have Rajun finally at my mercy, all for the release of one prisoner. This was a no-brainer, though obviously I'd have to appear as thougoh it was a hard decision. Fixing a frown on my face, I looked at the ceiling and sighed. "Well... how about this...? You tell me where Rajun is, and after we've found him and returned him to his position in government, Kale will be set free."

*Sorry I've had finals the last few days.*
Selene
I bit my lip drawing blood. "Tar I love you." I said quietly. Garrion poured whiskey for the other guards and I breathed in slowly then exhaled inhaled then exhaled. "Sel what are you doing?" Tar asked quietly. "I have no idea." I replied brightly. He chuckled quietly. "Tig I hope your prepared for this." I said knowing he would know what I meant. "Yup." He said grimly cheerful. I smiled slightly.

Aris

After a pause, I nodded. "Alright. I accept."

Somehow, I felt like I was doing something terrible... but to have Kale set free...

"He's hiding out in the forest. There's a small wooden house about a mile to the East of the castle." I said it quietly.

She nodded and then said, "Thank you for cooperating."

Cooperating. How weird for me.

[Will she actually let him free???]

Ja, I think so... I'm planning for her to have some sort of breakdown after she kills Rajun.
Is he actually in the forest? I thought he was going to try and break the others out?

Taeryn

I looked back at Aris with a degree of suspicion. "You're certain?" I asked, and she nodded quickly. I stared back, not knowing whether to trust her or not. "In that case, you wouldn't mind escorting a small troupe to this location, would you?"

She hesitated, glancing back down at the table.

TARRION

I smiled. Nothing in the world seemed to be able to get me down at the moment. Not right now. I leaned my head on the wall, watching the guards drink. Two were already out. One to go.

"Come on Gar! Drink a 'ittle 'ore than tat!" I smirked. Drunk. Not too much longer left to wait.

Garrion laughed. "I've been drinkin' more dan you!" He didn't sound drunk...I bit my lip.

GARRION

I watched the others fall into drunk sleep. I sighed and took a few measily sips of my own whiskey. I couldn't get drunk, the others depended on me. Finally the last one was going. His eyes were heavy, whiskey nearly dropping out of his hand.

I bit the inside of my cheek, willing him to fall asleep.

*They plan to sneak the prisoners out and sleep in the forest by the secret entrance*

"I... don't you think it would be best if your soldiers led the party to find them?"

"We could never find them on our own," Taeryn said quietly. "You helping us would be the only reasonable thing to do."

I looked up towards her. "...alright," I muttered.

Oh, was I seriously doing this?

Selene
I stared at the last guard and willed him with every bit of will power I had to go to sleep. "Sleep." I whispered. He dropped to the floor his whiskey falling from his hand as he started to snore.
