Trapped

I bolted up and grabbed his arm "Are you insane?" I nearly screamed. "We don't even know where you go when you step foot out there. We don't even know what it is! For all we know it could deconstruct your atoms and send you god knows where. And you want to go out there?"

Marcus

Marcus was the last out the door and so the only one to hear the thud. He paused for a moment, and he could feel his head instinctively start to tilt to one side as he considered the possiblilities. Worryingly his first thought was that Miss Lint might have fallen and hurt herself badly, but he tried to think of more plausible explanations. The thud might not have even come from the classroom he reasoned; the corridor was long, and plenty of rooms led off from it. A sound could easily have travelled down to him from another room... but Marcus couldn't see anyone through any of the doors. It was an English classroom so there wasn't much that could fall, and all the windows were permanently locked, not to mention the lack of a second door to the room, so she couldn't have slammed anything like that. Maybe she dropped something; that could happen, right? She had been holding something when he'd left so maybe... Marcus felt a shiver run through him as he realised he didn't believe any of these theories. It wasn't long before he was back in the classroom.

Only one thing seemed out of place. It wasn't a messanger bag lying on the floor as if it had been thrown there, a heavy-looking hardback novel poking out it's now open mouth; it wasn't the green fog clinging to the outside of the windows - which Marcus, in his shock, didn't even notice - and it wasn't the obvious dent in the board that hadn't been there before. It was much more obvious than all of them. There was no sign of a teacher.
