As soon as no one was looking I chucked the beer. I could't believe he had brought that to my party! Then the caterer shows up with a three foot tall birthday cake. Its all pink and icing and....ew.

I remind myself to un-thank my Aunt for arranging the catering for me.

I show them quickly where to put the cake, then walk inside. The rest of the guest follow. I decide it is time to show the movie.

"Movie time!" I yell. Everyone pours into my Aunts theater. I take a seat between to Emily and Ollie.

"Hey guys. You look nice, Emily!" I comment. She did, the dress looked stunning on her.

"Oh, thanks." She says. The movie plays through. Much to my relief, people laugh at the movie. It is pretty funny. Eventually the happy ending comes, and we all go out to dance.

"Ollie, you really are a good actor." I say.

"Thank you!" He says with a grin.

My favorite song, When will you come home, By DJ Avalon came on. I start danceing, and everyone joins it. I can tell everyone is having a blast. I look out at the number of people, and are suddenly glad I specifically wrote no presents on the card.

A slow song comes on. I somewhat panic, who on earth am I suposed to dance with?

Thankfully, Peter asked me to dance.

Come on, she's gorgeous. How can you not like her? I thought, looking at Alexis. She's pretty, she's funny, she's cool. Why don't you fancy her?
The truth was that I knew exactly why I didn't fancy her. I was more interested in the boy she was dancing with. He had light blonde hair and the purest blue eyes I had ever seen. I shut my eyes. Don't be stupid. There are plenty of pretty girls here, just go and dance with one.

My eyes carefully began to scan the room. They stopped when I saw a pretty faced girl with dark brown hair. Actually no. She wasn't pretty faced, she was beautiful. Mind you, so was Alexis but that didn't attract me to her either. They just weren't the beautiful that I liked. The girl was wearing an amazing knee length red dress. There was a long black ribbon tied around the waist. Nervously, I made my way over to her.

"Hey." I smiled. "Alison isn't it?"

Alison spun around, smiling. The second she saw me, her smile faded and she looked completely stiff. Oh God, she obviously didn't like me much at all.

"Um... Yeah" She said, trying to smile.

"Do you wanna dance...?" I spoke slowly.

"Okay." She replied.

I'd hardly finished my sentence when she answered me. I felt like a complete idiot. Alison obviously didn't like me. In fact, she looked so unsure, she looked nervous.

As Alison and I danced, I couldn't help but have my attention drawn to Alexis and Peter. I caught Alexis glance at me a few times, probably thinking that I looked a mess or something. Peter looked really happy. He quite clearly had a 'thing' for Alexis. I knew it was stupid, but I didn't that fact at all really. Maybe I was jealous of him because I fancied Alexis? Yeah. That's it. I was jealous of him, not her. Him. I think...
I didn't know what to put here so I put this.

I looked over at Ollie a few times during the dance. And it obviously greatly annoyed Peter.

"Hey, what up?" Peter asked me.

"Nothing, just..." I trailed off. The dance ended. It just felt wierd dancing with Peter. He was nice and all, and a good friend, but only a friend.

Another fast song, mostly people just talked. I walked around and tried to talk to everyone. Even slightly stuck-up Danielle seemed to be having a good time. One more slow dance, then it would be karyoke time.

The song Slow Dancing in a burning Room, by Jhon Mayer, came on. I went right over to Ollie.

I didn't care about the stupid boys-ask-girls thing. I went right up to him.

"You wanna dance?" I ask.

"Sure!" he says. His face lights up a little. He actually is a pretty good dancer.

We dance for a minute or two, then I say, "You seem so good at all this. The acting, dancing..."

"I have heard your a good singer." he says. I laugh.

"Not half as good as Danielle, though, you should hear her hit a high E. It is quite impressive." I say. Then the song ends, karyoke is about to start.

Everyone seems to be having mountains of fun, so why am I not? I’m standing, hidden in the shadowy corner, watching people dancing, flirting… drinking, for God’s sakes. But… it’s as if my feet are glued to the ground. I wanted them to like me; I wished for them to like me, but at the same time, I don’t care if they don’t. I will forever be the girl who waits in a corner, waits for someone to save her, instead of saving herself.

But, the watching isn’t all bad. I’ve noticed some peculiar things about my classmates.

Olli, staring at Alexis and Peter dancing, has a smile on his curious face. What is he thinking about? I see his eyes going back and forth between Alexis and Peter… But which one does he want? I don’t even think he knows…

And then there are the twins. They are always bickering. You would think it’s because they’re complete opposites. But, I just think the girl doesn’t want to give in to the fact that they’re exactly alike.

And poor Peter. He just can’t catch a break can he? I can tell by the look on Alexis’ face that he isn’t into him at all, at least in that way.

But, Alexis’ is sweeter than I thought she was. While watching the movie, she sat down next to me. She complimented my dress, which was nice. It gave me a boost of confidence. But, still not enough to ask someone to dance…

just a note...Jordan is way over-critical. He could find problems with a supermodel.

Jordan

A fidget uncomftorably with the sleeves of the tux I am wearing. Lori had convinced me to wear it. Us being long-time friends, it wasn't hard for her. I had known her for almost three years, a long time in my book. And yet we hadn't dated. What a shame.

I finish my dance with Lori, who, regrettebly, is not the hottest girl here. Danielle is, with Lori at a close second. Alexis was pretty, not hot, there's a difference...

Alison was pretty as well. Pretty, not hot. Lydia was just odd. There was another girl there who was right on the line though. I think her name is elizabeth, no, Emily, that's it.

I go over to talk to her, but the karyoke starts. Alexis is first on stage, obviously, with a funimg Danielle at the foot of the stage.

Alexis starts to sing. She has a pretty voice, and the song is good, but nothing special.

Danielle goes onstage next. Her voice is not much better, but the song is more my style. People clapp at the end of both songs.
Life is a door, and I hold the key to happiness.

I get up on the stage and decide to sing Today Was a Fairytale by Taylor Swift. it came over really well. I must admit, I sound really good. I really get into the song towards the end.

Today was a fairytale
You were the prince
I used to be a damsel in distress
You took me by the hand and you picked me up at six
Today was a fairytale

Today was a fairytale

Today was a fairytale
I wore a dress
You wore a dark grey t-shirt
You told me I was pretty when I looked like a mess
Today was a fairytale
Time slows down whenever you're around

But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale

Today was a fairytale
You've got a smile that takes me to another planet
Every move you make everything you say is right
Today was a fairytale
Today was a fairytale
All that I can say is now it's getting so much clearer
Nothing made sense until the time I saw your face
Today was a fairytale

Time slows down whenever you're around
Yeah yeah

But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale

Time slows down whenever you're around
I can feel my heart
It's beating in my chest
Did you feel it?
I can't put this down

But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there
It must have been the way
But can you feel this magic in the air?
It must have been the way you kissed me
Fell in love when I saw you standing there
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale
It must have been the way
Today was a fairytale

Oh oh oh
Yeah ohooh...
Today was a fairytale

Danielle goes next, and sings a more pop song that suits her voice well. She sounds really good. Enough to make me wonder why I sang at all. A guy sings as well, and he does good.

Jordan goes up to Danielle. He's obviously flirting. Huh, I thought that he and Lori were a thing. Anyhow, eventually it is cake time.

Alexis had a good voice. A really good voice actually. Danielle was good too, but Alexis was better. While the two of them were singing, I couldn't help but notice a girl that was sitting in the corner of the room. Emily, I think her name was. I kind of felt bad for her. She wasn't talking to anyone, she looked kind of lonely.

It was time to cut the cake now. It was an enormous cake, pretty bizarre, but still incredible. As everyone sat down to eat the cake, that's when the drama began. It was rather funny actually. Danielle and Jordan were flirting like hell. What was even funnier though, was the fact that Danielle kept on smiling and winking at me. Talk about sad.

We'd been sat down for about ten minutes and everyone was happily laughing and talking. Everyone except for Emily that is.

"Hey Em's," I began. "Wha' did you think of the girls singing 'en?"

Emily looked at me carefully before answering. "Um... yeah. They were good."

"Wow! It speaks!" Danielle laughed.

Jordan laughed at what Danielle had just said. I on the other hand, was far from impressed. What a brat.

"Yeah, she does." I narrowed my eyes. "She also doesn't come to a party dressed like a drag queen."

Everyone around the table laughed, even Jordan chuckled slightly. Danielle's face was a picture. She'd gone completely red, it was rather enjoyable, I must say. I could see Emily grinning slightly in the corner of my eye.
I didn't know what to put here so I put this.

Lydia and Lance-

Lance:

I laughed silently at Alexis's joke as I shoves another piece of cake in my mouth. She did look a bit drag-ish today. Trying to hard perhaps?
" What after the cake, miss ruler of the party," I asked, my eyes strayed lazily to miss birthday girl before returning to my half empty plate.
" I don't know," she mumbled," i'll think of something." I rolled my eyes and poked at my cake.
" So," Lydia started," things are getting painfully silent, and, as you can probably tell, I don't like silence-"
" That's not hard to believe," Peter mumbled and she threw a piece of her cake at him.
"So," she continued," we should play a game." Groaning I kicked her under the table.
" Shut up before I make you go home," I mumbled, feeling the start of a headache.
Lydia:
I folded my arms across my chest and poked nervosly at my cake. It was so quiet! And boring! I stood up and wiped crumbs of the skirt of my dress.
" Bathroom," I mumbled when Lance stood up after me. Leaving the room as quickly as possible I headed to the direction of the bathroom, but before I made it there I took a detour to the front of the house and walked to our car. Once I was in I quickly grabbed my pack of cigarettes and went to sit in the grass.

I'd gotten an invitation--somehow--from Alexis.

I woke up that evening with my face stuck to the pages of my Physics book and realized that I'd fallen asleep. Oh no! I glanced at the clock and heaved a sigh of relief; the party had already started, but it was still hours before it would end. I could still make it.

Scrambling up from my desk, I threw on my dress, a bit of mineral makeup (mostly to hide the red mark on my forehead,) and a large, faux diamond ring. Blowing a kiss at the picture of my best friend I kept on my nightstand, I wondered how different things would be if he were still alive. Then I slipped into my clear heels and grabbed the present I'd gotten Alexis--a peppermint-scented aromatherapy spa set--and set off down the stairs.

"Where are you going?" Mom asked as I rushed through the living room. She and Chad were watching some true crime TV show.

"Party. Gotta go." I hopped on my purple bicycle, thinking that no one would really mind if I didn't show up in a cool car, since they probably weren't all standing outside anymore.

I arrived and the door was already open, so I let myself in and dropped the present on a table full of other presents. They were singing karaoke, and I got to see the last minute or so of Alexis's performance. I had to admit, she was pretty good. She hopped down off the stage and I went to greet her.

"Sorry I'm late," I said, still a bit winded from the ride. "I fell asleep reading about temperature coefficients...who wouldn't, really? I hope that's okay."

I see Alexis and Ollie whispering to each other giggling and laughing at there private joke across the table and my heart feels like it had been plucked out and stomped on with high heels. I chugged the last of the beer that Ollie snuck in trying to numb my pain.
"You like her don't you."
Startled by the unfamiliar voice I whip my head around to face the girl beside only now acknowledging her present,"Like who?" I asked, astonish by her looks. How could I have not notice her? She was gorgeous!
"Alexis," she nods to where Alex and Ollie were sitting across from us."I see it in your eyes."
"Pete,"I stretch out my hand trying to ignore Alexis.
"Alison," Smiling she takes my hand into her own and we shake.

I sat down as the karaoke began, still in shock. Ollie had asked me to dance. Me! I know I had probably appeared to be the biggest oaf in history during the entire dance. I hadn't been able to squeak out anything, and afterwards he went to dance with Alexis. But he had chosen me; I curled my legs up and hugged my knees with delight.

Feeling in a much better mood than before, I watched and applauded while a few kids got up and sang. They did a pretty good job; if they really wanted to, I could see some of them becoming the next teen sensation.

Afterwards, the cake was cut. I watched in silence as boys and girls flirted and teased each other. Ollie, I noted, was speaking to a quiet girl named Emily, and I wondered whether he liked her. Pushing the thought from my mind, I decided to try to get to know someone.

That one girl - Lydia - she seemed nice, but as soon as I stood up to talk with her, she and her brother left the room, and I was left standing awkwardly. My eyes flicked over everyone's faces; Ollie was still talking with Emily; two teens named Danielle and Jordan were flirting and would probably not give me a second glance; Alexis was speaking to some girl who was a latecomer; and then my eyes fell on the boy who had been dancing with Alexis, standing by himself.

Summoning up enough courage, I walked over to him and said without thinking, "You like her, don't you?"

His obvious surprise at my bold question was quickly smoothed over as we introduced each other. Soon, we had hesitantly started talking about school, and I found that we were in the same Psychology class. Our conversation branched to other topics, and I soon discovered that he hated math (I was in shock; how could anybody hate math??) and he was very artistically minded, something I always admired in a person.

"Hey, do you want to get together sometime after school to go over Psych homework?" I asked, inspiration suddenly popping into my head. Pete's face suddenly changed expression, and I mentally kicked myself. He probably thought I was hitting on him; that was the furthest thing from my mind, and I hastened to explain. "You see, I'm not that great at it, and I don't really know anyone here besides Alexis, so I just thought maybe I could make a new friend."

I cringed inwardly, knowing how nerdish that sounded.

Peter kept on looking at me. He was probably more interested in Alexis, but it made me feel awkward. Alexis and I were talking about something, I didn't know what, I wasn't really listening. All I knew was that Peter kept on glancing in our direction. He was talking to Alison now. I tried my best to listen to what they were saying. All I could make out was that the were going to meet up some time. As I heard this, I could feel myself slowly getting worked up. Okay, I was being stupid now.

As I continued to watch Peter and Alison, I had an idea. I excused myself from Alexis, stood up and walked towards the two of them.

"Are you guys on about Psychology homework?" I asked. "Cause I could really do with some help when it comes to tha'. I suck at it."

"Yeah. Peter and I were thinking of meeting up to do some together. Do you want to come along?" Alison seemed somewhat relieved. As if I'd just saved her from an awkward situation.

"Yeah all right."I replied, looking at Peter.

Peter looked far from impressed. Had I done something to upset him? I hoped not. I really wanted to get to know him properly. He seemed cool. I never should have walked over here in the first place.

I was about to say hi to Peter when my phone rang. Scrambling through my pockets, I lifted the phone to my ear. It was my dad. Great.

"Oi! Where are you?" He practically shouted down the phone. "The tele's broken again and I can't fix it!"

Jesus Christ. Here we go.

"I'm still at the party dad." I answered.

"Well come back 'en you idiot!" My dad shouted. "You're not good for anythin' are you!?"

"Okay! I'll be back now! Bloomin' hell!" I shouted back.

As I put my phone back into my pocket, there was an awkward silence within the group. Some of them looked as though they were about to laugh, mainly Jordan. Others just looked uncomfortable. It didn't take me long to realise that every single person had just heard my entire conversation. I could feel myself getting redder as every second passed. Why me?

"Uh..." I said awkwardly, breaking the silence of the group. "I gotta go."

Without leaving any time for anyone to say anything else, I hastily jogged out of the room. I didn't look back. I felt like a complete idiot already, I didn't want to look even worse. Finally getting out of the grand building, I walked down the narrow sidewalk. Kicking a small stone onto the road, I realised how much of a screw up I was. I stopped, staring at the empty road in front of me. I guess I was walking home.
I didn't know what to put here so I put this.

The party is very strange. There are so many different things going on with these people that I would have never expected.

I loved how Ollie was talking to me; it made me feel special. And when he stuck up for me, well... I had never been stuck up for before. And for a boy to stick up for me towards Danielle, one of the girls who ditched me, well... that was the icing on the cake.

I couldn't help but wondering why Jordan was looking at me, before the karaoke. I am an average girl... I don't talk. But, his legs had turned towards me as if he was going to walk over. Even though he is a jock, and all the girls craze over him, and I know I'm not into guys like him, he still made my night, even if he wasn't going to talk to me.

I feel bad for Ollie, one of the only friends I made. He screamed into the phone, and everyone heard him, trying to get into his business. I wasn't trying to listen... but when everything is silent, your ears just hear things.

On the bright side, I know his secret.

Lydia and Lance:
Lydia:
I took a last drag on my cigarette before stomping it out in the moist grass and looked up at Lance.
" Can we go," I pleaded. He just turned around and walked back into the house, mumbling that he was announcing our depature. As soon as her dissapered into the door Ollie stormed out, looking a bit bummed. I watched from the conceling shadows as he started down the street. Walking home perhaps. That's a long walk.
Sighing, I emerged and jogged up next to him.
" Gah," he squealed," Oh, Lydia! You scared me half to death," he looked around and shoved his hands in his pocket, never once stopping his sluggish stride. " What are you doing here?" I grimaced and chewed on my lip ring a bit.
" Offering you a ride home," he paused for a moment but soon finished walking, not saying anything," Lance and I were leaving anyway. This party is dank."
" Dank," he chuckled a bit. " What kind of word is that?" I scoffed and punched him in the arm.
" It's my word. Now, you accepting or not? I'll let you ride shot gun." He just bit his lip and looked up at the sky.
" If you're driving i'll take my chances with walking. Alone." Taking that last comment as a joke, I pouted a bit and put my hands on my hips.
" I'm not a bad driver! I just- Well, I- Lance is-...Whatever," he laughed again but then abruptly stopped. " I'm not driving, you can still ride if you want."
" Lydia?" Lance's voice rang through the darkness, worry heavy in his voice.
" Oh shiz," I hissed before turning around," Your choice. Ollie," I called over my shoulder," see 'ya later! Or sooner if you take the bait. Bye!" I took off towards the car.
Lance:
" Coming, brother!" Her voice sounded from down the street and I sighed relief. I watched as her figure slowly came into view and she skidded to a stop next to me.
" Okay," she panted," let's go." I walked to the car and got in the drivers side, she slipped in the back
" I offered Ollie a-" A banging sound came from the window and I turned in time to see Ollie slip in.
"Mind if I join?"

Ollie dug in his pocket til he found what was the meaning to of the annoying sound emitting from his pants pocket, pressing it to his ear he answered and his face went from happy to disgust. From my vantage point I could here screaming from the other end and cringed. The conversation wasn't going well.
"I'm still at the party,"he answered in a somewhat calm voice glancing at me every other minute, I could tell he felt embarrass with me standing so close to him overhearing the yelling on the other end.
More screaming emitted from the phone.I noticed his body rippled with anger before he shouted back into the phone attracting everyone else' attention."Okay!I'll be back now!Blommin' hell!" He hung up and replaced his cell in his pocket, looking at me with sad, apologizing eyes as if he cared what I thought of him in any way.
"Um..."he looked around awkwardly and I felt bad for him,"I gotta go." He gave me one more look before he left.
"What was that about?"Alexia asked, concern plastered all over her face.
"Nothing serious,"I lied, I hated to see one of my best friends sad, especially Alexis."I think there was some type of emergency at his home."
