Max chucks Aliss stuff out the window. Her face pulls up into an evil smile. She takes out a gun, and aims it at Max's head.

"Anyone moves, and I shoot him." She said evilly.

I am behind her. I take a careful step forward, then another. Suddenly she turns around and picks me up, throwing me against a pillar. Riley's face shows pure terror. I feel the adrenaline rushing through me.

My head is bleeding, but I stand back up. She charges. I give her a well deserved kick in the face. She hisses, and wipes her bleeding nose. I jump against the wall to get higher up, then spring on her. She throws me to the ground. I hear a crack in my left shoulder. Thank god I am right handed.

"Well, I didn't get to shoot him, but breaking your arm is enough." She said. Pain seeps from every bone in my body. My limbs feel like they are on fire. She goes outside, gets her luggage, then walks upstairs.

Riley seems unable to move. I push myself up with my right arm. I wave my hand in front of her face. She snaps into reality. I sit her down on the couch.

"You shouldn't be the one helping her." Ace said. He rips a strip of his shirt and ties it around my head. I slip into unconsciousness.
Life is a door, and I hold the key to happiness.

They all atended to the silly girl who tried to fight me. She was lucky I didn't kill her. And Riley's face was pricless. I suddenly wished I had brought a camera.

I go upstairs. I hear talking coming from a bedroon. One voice is definetly Bree's, and another is a guys. Her husband, maybe?

"You know, a friend of mine is getting married. She asked me to be her wedding advisor. She has awful taste. You should have seen what she picked out originally, it was just dreadful." Bree said. Her tone was nervous.

Her usual bell-like voice was distorted. It sounded like she was, or had been, crying. That boy better hope he had nothing to do with that. I had helpled Riley hunt down the Gero guy, more than happy to kill any person that hurt Riley. We had been friends at the time. She stopped being my friend, however, after my boyfriend left me. She said it changed me. I hadn't changed. I just let another side of me show.

"You mean this one?" The guy asked.

"Yeah, that one." She chokes. I wonder what was upsetting her.

"Wait, I 'ear somethin'." The guy says. He opens the door to see me standing there.

Bree comes to the door. "You little weasel!" She says.

"Bree, long time no see, right." I say, "You didn't tell me you were married!" I say, looking at the guy. That hits a nerve with her. She staggers back. She is too shocked to cry. I have seen similar expressions from people burning at a stake.

The guy raises his fist to punch me, but I catch it half-way. I twist his wrist, breaking it. He curses. I take my luggage and begin to walk down the corridor. The guy begins to run after me. Bree holds him back, and pulls him back in the room with a cold glare in my direction. He let her pull him inside.

That was the only smart move he had made all day.

Alis was a bitch. She was beating up everybody in sight, being completely rude, and just about shot me in the face. And yet I've never respected anybody more in my life. She was strong, quick, sinister, and even a little hot. She was just like...well, she was almost like Joan. Maybe that's what the appeal was. But I didn't know where this girl was from, what her deal was, and considering Joan's past led me to killing her, I didn't really want to get into the same sort of risk. I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too much.

And when I think too much, I've been sober for too long.

And when I'm sober for too long, I become quiet and fearful. I needed to get to the bar, and get something to drink. And I was far too sick of these people to stick with them.

I sneaked off to the garage and hopped into Reg's 4x4. Considering he blew up my car, I figured he'd understand if I borrowed his. I had no gun this time, I didn't know of anybody I'd need to kill, I just wanted a god damn drink. I wasn't going to get in trouble this time, so there was no use in holding back just because Reg or Bree or Riley would want me dead.

Lucky me, Reg left his keys on the table. Sucker. I put them in and drove off, and opened the windows to let some wind in. I was already a little more relaxed.

Great. Just great. I heaved a sigh as I tore the bottom hem off my shirt and wrapped it around Maitea's bleeding head. Why did everyone have to be so careless? How come they couldn't all just grow up and act like civilized human beings?

"For all my insanity," I murmured as the girl relaxed, unconscious, in my arms. "For all my head problems, am I the only sane person here?" It was true; I had some strange nervous tics, like the urge to wave at things and the inability to stop, and having to always keep at least one light on nearby with the consequence being a super paranoid feeling. But somehow I was one of the few without the urge to kill someone.

I sighed and looked at Maitea, making a tsk-tsk sound as I pressed my fingers against the bone of her shoulder. "I can't tell if it's broken," I mused, "but even if it is, it's not a clean break. That noise may have been something else popping." Nonetheless, I shrugged out of my hoodie and turned it into a sling to keep her from moving her arm until she woke up and we could figure out what to do about it.

We may have to take her to get X-rays. Gods, I hate hospitals. Of course you do, Ace, you practically lived in one. I didn't like those treatments. No, dear. Who does? I shook my head. My brain needed to stop talking to itself.

Instead, I lifted my hand gingerly, afraid, and moved a few stray hairs out of her face. Then, as if acting on their own, my fingers began to stroke her hair. Don't be hurt. You're my friend. And that psycho woman better not mess with you again, or I'll have something to say about it. I might have had something to say about it then, were I not so scared to leave the incapacitated Maitea and the shocked Riley alone. I was sure someone else would set that Alis girl in her place. I was good at many things, but putting someone in their place had never been my forte.

I looked up at Riley and said, "What should we do? I'm not a doctor." Duh, Ace. "I mean...I'm not sure what to do other than this."

Be careful not to god-mod the Alis character please. She can't be immortal or perfect as a fighter. >_>

Reg Carter

I held my wrist. That new amateur had some cheek. She may be a fighter but she wasn't going to stay in the gang long if she didn't earn some respect. More importantly, she wouldn't last long either. It didn't matter how strong they all were. I always knew a way around them. If they were too strong, I was always the one with the gun.

I left the bedroom and took myself down the stairs. Bree knew I'd need to get my wrist checked out, so she left me to it. I passed Riley on the way out.

"Riles," I snarled. She looked back to me and saw me with my hand tight round my wrist.

"What is it, Reg?" She asked.

"I got'a go to the hospital, want me to take Maitea with me?" I suggest, a strain in my voice. She could tell I was in pain.

"That'll be great, Reg. -- what happened to your wrist?" she replied.

"New girl had a temper. She needs to sort it out, or get lost," I say angrily. "I'm serious, Riles."

She nods in agreement and begins to walk upstairs. I look to Ace and back to Maitea. I glare at my broken wrist.

"Ace, a little help carrying Maitea?" I ask, with a demand in my voice. Ace nods and lifts her left side up. I lift up her right and we drag her out of the house.

I let Ace hold her whilst I check for my keys, I notice they're gone. As is my car. I curse as the notion that Max is also missing hits me.

"Dammit, I thought me and that lad had some understanding," I mumbled. It's stuff like this that gets us all killed, I thought.

"Right, Ace," I say, "Looks like we're taking your wheels."

Ace chucks me the keys.

Crap. Some freaking chicka with issues comes in, snaps my new friend's arm and knocks her out.

"C'mon, I'll take her to the closest hospital." That was saying something since hospitals freaked me out after Mitch was stuck in one and we were attacked by police.

We were able to get her out to Bree's car. Riley somehow had the keys. She turned to Ace and gave him strict orders to stay here and brief Reg and Bree on the situation.

And we were off.

I load my pistol and walk quietly upstairs. When I am in the room she should be in, I burst open the door. I point the gun at her head.

"I am listening." She said. I bring the gun close to her skull.

"Try this for size."

"I am listening intently." She said, obviously taken by shock.

"As long as you are here you will not hurt a single member of our group I don't care if they attack you first and have a gun to your head. You will not hurt them. Do you understand?" My voice shocked me. The words were hissed and strangled.

"And if I don't agree?"

"I shoot you."

"You have harsh terms, Riley, but it doesn't seem like I have a choice." She licked her lips as she said this.

"Say it."

"Fine, I, Alis Carso will not hurt any member of your group. Happy?"

"Yes." My voice is still strangled, but I go downstairs. She would need close supervision. Who would do it?

I would have to. I couldn't put any of the rest in danger like that. I had an idea. It would apeal to her better nature, and give her a purpose.

I walk back in the room, "I have a little, um, job for you."

"What?"

"When we go on mission involving many people, I will need a personal bodyguard. A personal fighter, per se, for when I have to order the others around." I wait for her response.

I wake up on a hospital bed. I think. I go to sit up. The walls are white, the bed is white, the sheets are white. Definetly a hospital. Gental hands push me back down.

"Stay laying down." Ace said.

"How's Reg? I ask, remembering vaugely his expression of pain.

"You would be worried about Reg." Ace asked, gesturing to my arm. Aparently it had broken, and not my shoulder.

"I choose to fight her, knowing it would probably end like this. I was stupid to try."

"That was very brave, and, I must say, you held your own. You had the advantage many times."

"Thank you." The nurse comes in.

"You took a bad fall, sweet pea, but thankfully you will be able to go home when your ready. There seem to be a lot of people worried about you. If I do say so myself, though, the one with the black hair and the pale face scared me a bit. She looked like she was about to shoot flames out of her eyes. But, anyway, when your ready you can go."

"Now?" I ask.

"Go ahead." She says. I check out of the hospital, Ace did most of the writing for me, and went back home. When we were in the car, I turned to Ace.

"Alis was here?"

"She came to apologize, but no doubt Riley made her. But she came. I think that was the first time I ever heard her apologize. I was shocked. But I stayed in the room, ready to fight if needed." We pull up to the old mansion.

Sorry, I am not trying to god-mod. But if I was, she would also be perfectly nice, perfectly beautiful and perfectly rich.

Alis

Ace and Maitea pull up in Ace's car. Well, I wouldn't call it a car. Not compared to mine. I finish studying the ma of a mansion Riley told me to commit to memory. I had a feeling that she was keeping me out of the way, but I really didn't care. I would be her main fighter when the time called for it. That was reward enough for me.

I finish looking at the map, then walk downstairs. Maitea takes a step back when she see's me, then grabs Ace's hand seemingly on impulse. She drops it, then blushes. I laugh.

I walk over to Riley, who is still put out with me, even though three days have passed.

"I memorized the maps." I say.

"Good, now, can you do me a favor and figure out how these work?" She hands me a stack of papers and old looking devices.

"You have got....fine." I say, then martch upstairs. Behind me Ace laughs.

"You did the impossible Riley, you tamed the lion." Riley laughs too.

The way Alis looked through the window at my car confused me. Well, I thought, if she wants to scoff at an antique 'Vette, I won't hold it against her, but I might call into question her good judgment...

When she reached the bottom of the stairs, a house's blueprint rolled up in one hand, I saw Maitea step back. I felt her hand grasp mine. My eyes, I was sure, widened in shock and fear, and I know I drew in a particularly loud breath--did I actually feel something for a moment?

She dropped my hand, blushing, and I let out the breath as a sigh, but my fingers closed over the spot where hers had been seconds ago. I vaguely wondered when the tingling would go away.

I laughed, not so much at what they were saying--though I'll admit that was part of it--but mostly at my own stupid thoughts. Alis turned around, her eyes blazing; she thought I was laughing at her. I pointed at one of my almond-shaped eyes, and then at Alis. I've got my eye on you. Because that girl seriously needed someone to watch her. I knew Riley would do it just fine, but I felt she needed to know that tabs weren't being kept on her by only one person.

"How's your arm?" I asked Maitea softly. It was a good thing it was her arm, and not her shoulder. The latter would have taken longer to heal, likely, and would have been much more painful. Though, judging by the angle she landed on it, I didn't think it wasn't painful, but she didn't seem to show any outward signs that she was hurt. "You're a real trooper. You need help with anything? Or you, Riley?"

Reg had come back from the hospital as soon as the doctor let him. He was now sitting, sleeping on my bed. Mine was closer to the door, and he crashed right on it. I personally think the doctor over-did the pain killers.

I hadn't left his side for the last two days. When he was awake, we talked, when he wasn't, I sat and watched him sleep. When he sleeped, all traces of his past, the hard frown lines etched into his face, everything was gone.

He wasn't exactly happy that I sat here, treating him 'like a baby', as he put it. But I was okay with it. I knew he hurt more than he was willing to admit, so I stayed. I flipped through the magazine again. After a minute I set it down. There was no use in looking at things that would only hurt me.

He wakes up, takes a look at me, then curses.

"Your treating me like I am one instead of 29."

"Its a talent." I say.

Riley

"You're a real trooper. You need help with anything? Or you, Riley?" Ace said.

"Actually, yes, I do. Would you mind going and picking up something for me. A friend drew me up some maps and got us a new set of clip-on walkie talkies. I don't have time to go get them. Here's the adress." I say, then change my mind, "Actually, I will have Max do that. Why don't you help Maitea up to her room and get her settled. Don't bother Reg or Bree, she throws a fit anytime anyone even tries to enter that room." I smiled.

"Okay." Ace says. Maitea rolls her eyes, but begins upstairs. Halfway up, she slipps. thankfully, Ace catches her.

"Max!" I yell. Last time I saw him he was outside, tossing rocks into a pond, still slightly drunk.

He comes in, completely sober, "What?"

"Would you mind going and picking up something for me. A friend drew me up some maps and got us a new set of clip-on walkie talkies. I don't have time to go get them. Here's the adress." I toss him a sheet of paper.

"Who's car should I use?" He asks. These were the times when I wish Reg wouldn't burn people's things. I toss him the keys to me motorcycle. I decide to get him a new car, one that won't break so easily.

Once Max is gone, I call Marcello, "Hey, Marcello, I need a car."

"Riley, you broke your motorcycle? Shame, I liked that..." He started.

"No, I did not break my motorcycle. Reg blew up someone's car." I say. Silence, for a minute, then laughter erupts on the end of the line.

"Okay, what do you want? There are many options." He says. I think for a minute.

"Something that is totally original." I say, then hang up. A mere hour later, Marcello pulls up in a car that isn't even made anymore. The first, and last, anphibious car. He was incredible. The car is in top condition, and apears to be brand new.

Marcello steps out of the car. "I owe you one." I say to him.

"Yeah, you do!" He laughs.

I slip halfway up the stairs, thankfully, Ace catches me. I walk the rest of the way up to my room without incident, but he always has a hand ready to catch me if needbe. Stupid pain killers. I lay down on my bed, slowly trying to go to sleep. I don't know why I am tierd.

I don't really slepp, but I am not awake either. Suddenly, noise comes from the driveway. It sounds like a car. But it is not any of the ones we have. I walk downstairs, ace again at my side. On the driveway is a Anphis Auquer L324. I am shocked. Those stopped being made about ten years ago. They were legand. And this one looked new. Riley was talking to Marcello, leaning on the car.

"Is this a Anphis Auquer L324?" I ask Marcello.

"You know what this car is? Impressive!" He says.

"My uncle was practically obsessed with these cars. He would come over from Spain and kill me in his sleep if I didn't know. But he never owned one. Who's this for?" I ask Riley.

"Max, Reg blew up his car." She laughs.

"Lucky," I mumbled.

"Maybe he'll give you a ride for making up a story about how you were teaching him to break stuff with his head when Max and Reg had actually been fighting." Riley smirked. How did she know everything. My face went red.

"So they were actually trying to kill each other," I joked to the girls, grinning good-naturedly.

I glanced at the car--something my speed-demon mother probably would have killed to have in addition to her fighter jet (which I still had no idea how she'd managed to acquire--I just knew she hadn't stolen it.) I smiled wider, considering how much of a rush it would be to drive that car. The hacker in me really wanted to get into it and have a look at the central computer, to see how everything worked, but it wasn't mine to do that with. "Lucky guy," I mused. "Lucky you, Maitea, if he takes you out in it."

I glanced at Marcello. "Mind if I take a look? I swear I won't touch anything."

"A look can't hurt, I guess," he replied, and I nodded.

I walked around it, looking at the outer mechanics of the thing; I didn't open the hood, as I'd promised not to touch it. I had only a basic idea of how machinery worked, but it was still intriguing to look at. Then I came back to Maitea's side, still a bit concerned for her; she was, after all, still doped up on narcotic painkillers. But she looked like she was feeling a lot better, all things considered.

Max pulls up in my motorcycle. Its still in one peice. I am resonably proud. he walks over to the car.

"Whats this?" He asks.

"The Anpiss Aguifier 300." I say, thinking I had the name right.

Maitea shoots me a look. "Its the Anphis Auquer L324." She said, laughing. Everyone else joins in.

"Who's it for?" Max asked.

"You." Ace said. Max looked like a child on christmas day who has just recived evey present he every dreamed of having. He gives me a quick hug.

"Thank you, Riley." He says.

"Ah, your welcome." I say.

"I am going to test it out, you want a ride?" He asked me.

"No, I have work to do," I drop my tone, "but Maitea does."

"Maitea, you want to come?" He asks. Again, the child on christmas expression. I go inside.

Bree

"You know, you can leave." Reg stated.

"And I can jump out the window but I am not going to do that either." I retort.

He mumbles something that sounds like a curse. He closes his eyes. I take out the magazine agan. He grabbs it with his good hand.

"Ha!" He exclaims. He flipps through it. I don't know why he can't just drop the subject.

"Whats your deal?" I ask.

"This is very interesting." Reg said.

"I don't see how."
