The girl was trapped. I slashed her legs lightly with my sword, and she collapsed. I put my sword at her throat. "I win. Now, I suppose you'll have to die." I raised my sword for the kill, but she threw her dagger in a burst of adrenaline. It hit my hound, and it came tumbling down on top of me. My sword went flying, and the girl seized the opportunity, crawling, her legs bleeding, she dissapeared into the woods. I cursed loudly, and pushed the dead body of the last of my hounds off myself. I walked to grab my sword. Two had gotten away. Two. And they had both been so close... I sprinted back to the clearing where the man had been. The bodies of my hounds lay there, but the man, Myles, if I recalled correctly, was gone. I swore again, but less violently. It was only two. If my minions were doing their job, thousands would be dead by sunset.
((Could you find my dagger? AS an interesting thing. It's magical...sort of.. ))
Jesse:
I ran hard and fast, ignoring the pain in my legs. I was pretty sure it was bad but I had to keep moving.
I glanced back but he wasn't following me. Who the hell was that anyway? And what was that thing? Some kind of mutant dog? And with the thought of dogs came Barb.
"Barb!" I gasped and put on a burst of speed.
Suddenly I tripped and landed flat on my face. Groaning, I rolled over and looked around to see what I had tripped over... It was Myles.
"Myles!" I exclaimed and started shaking him...but he wouldn't wake up. "Myles?"
I looked up, hearing a lot of cursing from nearby and clamped my mouth shut. That wasn't good... I hoisted Myles onto his feet and started half dragging, half carrying him towards the colony.

Lillian was crying rather copiously, and Geneva wondered what she was doing watching her 'perfect' sister wailing like a terrified cow. She turned to Michael and Jeremiah, who were looking as impatient as she felt.
"What do we do now?" She bit her lip. "I can't stay cooped up in here forever - if the monsters don't kill me, the suspense will."
"Come on Genie." Arthur pulled a chair over, causing Geneva to shift away from him. He looked briefly disappointed before cheering up. "At least we're in this together."
Geneva rolled her eyes and ignored him. "Jeremiah, what's the situation out there?"
Jeremiah looked nonplussed. "I don't get it. There aren't any monsters out there."
"Maybe they're afraid because they know me and my family lives here." Arthur piped up, and Geneva briefly wondered whether whacking him with her bow would make him see some sense.
Michael coughed as if to cover up the chuckles Geneva knew were trying to surface. "Arthur, I don't really think - " But whatever he was about to say was suddenly interrupted by someone shrieking upstairs, causing all of them to look upwards.
Geneva blinked.

He awoke to Jesse pulling him towards the camp. Not the way he would have preferred to be found. Jesse's fingers dug into the deep wounds in his back.
Myles opened his eyes and hissed loudly. "Careful," he groaned. "Jesus Christ are you trying to kill me?"
Jesse looked worried but still glared at him. "No. The opposite actually. Care to tell me what the hell is wrong with you?"
Memories flashed into Myles's mind and he jumped away from her, scared. Jesse looked alarmed. Myles never acted this way.
"Run Jesse. Now. The hounds...beasts, they'll follow my trail. They won't know yours. If I go back to camp with you now, I'll just put everyone in danger. I can't do that you them."
"Myles, don't be stupid," Jesse hissed. "You're...Myles, you're bleeding!"
He nodded, feeling his shirt stick to his back from the deep wounds and bites. "They know my scent. Go to camp now. I can fend them off. Besides, the city will need some sort of protection," he sighed before turning away from her and jogging back to where he came from.

Myles woke up and started freaking out. Then he run off talking about hounds...
"But they're all dead, Myles!" I called after him.
He didn't turn back. I scowled and kept limping towards the colony. Camp was pointless. I hoped everyone had mangaged to get away. I didn't want to bury any more friends.
Myles was crazy... The hounds were dead! I had killed the last one and apparently, according to what that weird guy had said, the others were dead too.
I shook my head and kept going.

“Help!” shrieked someone upstairs. “Help! Monsters got in! Dad! Geneva! Somebody!” There was an even worse shriek. “Oh God, help!” It was Pricilla. Arthur hardly recognized his sister’s voice. He was had never heard her usually sarcastic tones so shrill and terrified.
“Monsters!” wailed Lillian, responding to Pricilla’s cries with her own shrieks. “Oh, help us, MONSTERS!” Arthur almost felt like screaming running away himself, but didn’t. After all, it was his sister up there, and fleeing would not impress Genie, and he had to get her respect back. So he stayed, and followed, a bit reluctantly, as Geneva, Jeremiah and Michael bolted up the stairs. But still… Running away looked very tempting.
Arthur, weaponless as he was, quickly grabbed an old sword of his grandfathers, which was usually kept on the mantel piece. It was long and far too heavy for him, but Arthur was resolute. If he was going to fight monsters for Genie, (oh, and Pricilla too,) he was damn well going to have a big piece of sharpened steel in his hands.
No sooner had Arthur reached the landing when, out of nowhere, a monster charged at him and knocked him back down the stairs. He hit the steps at about mid way, then continued his fall, bumping along the flight. He landed at the base with a loud “Oof!” and struggled to rise. His rib cage hurt. He was sure at least five of his ribs were broken, if not more. Such agony he had never known, and never wished to know again.
But, still, he had to get up, or else a rat-faced mutant would eat him alive. So he did, just as the monster bounded down the stairs after him. He raised the sword, but, to his horror found that he wasn’t holding it any more.
“Um,” he squeaked, backing away from the approaching monster. “Nice, monster… nice little, er, rat. I’m just going to, uh…” Arthur stuttered to a halt as the rat, unfazed by Arthur’s pathetic babbling, approached steadily, apparently enjoying its victim’s fear.
Arthur, in a last-ditch effort to save his skin, took a deep breath and hollered.
“HELP!”

I walked back towards the battle, slashing at anything that moved with my sword, humming merrily. Soon the world would be mine. Something glinted from the leaves. I picked it up. The girl, Jesse's, dagger... I put it in my sword's currently empty sheath, and walked on. Perhaps I would find a use for it.As I neared the village, I saw a young man fighting with one of my mutant rats. Pathetic. HI sword was on the ground behind him. I smirked, but then looked in the window. Children. I had no pity for the old, but children... I stabbed the rat. The man looked at me, half surprised, half grateful. To follow it up, I punched him across the face, and he slumped down, unconscious. I walked away, towards the center of the battle.
His back burned as sweat dripped into the wounds. It was torture but he had to do something. He thought of the little boy thief he had helped earlier that morning. He wondered if he was okay.
Myles ran towards the city. Mutated bodies of both the unreal monsters and the bodies of the citizens. It made Myles's stomach lurch. He had killed before, done it for fun even, but never had he witnessed this.
A rat like beast hunched towards him. Myles threw his dagger into it's great chest. He walked towards it and yanked it out. He felt for his short-bladed sword. Who ever was doing this would pay. Myles would make sure of it.
Myles watched rich men run for their lives, not bothering to help the small children and helpless being left behind. Anger welled up in his gut as he watched yet another rich man shove a child, a street rat, out of his way.
Myles ran to the girl.
"Get up," he growled. "Get up now."
She sobbed. "My brother. I can't. I'll just hide. My brother's gone, how can I continue?" SHe looked nearly mad with sadness.
Myles yanked her up by her clothes. "You stupid girl! Run! Mourn your losses later! Your dear little brother," he spat out, angrily. "Won't thank you for staying here to die."
The girl, afraid, took off, out of the city, hopefully. Myles looked at another man, unconscious. He was the man Myles tried to steal from. Myles looked through his things, taking everything valuable he hand.
Then he slapped his face hard. "Get up!" He hissed. "Get up, get up! Do you want to live or not? Get up!"

Arthur blinked hard and woke as someone slapped his face. “Get up!” someone hissed. “Get up, Get up! Do you want to live or not? Get up!”
“Wha-? Genie?” said a befuddled Arthur. The last thing he could remember was that a giant rat about to eat him, but that was surely a dream. It had to be a dream, because otherwise… Arthur’s eyes snapped open. The monsters had invaded the town!
“Genie!” he yelled, trying to leap to his feet. “Genie, where are you!?” he turned and dashed towards his house, from which the sounds of fighting could be heard. “Genie!”

Thos were the first words that greeted Geneva as she came out of the house, carrying Priscilla on her shoulders. She glared at Arthur, who looked rather relieved to see her, and set Priscilla down.
"The least you can do - " She began, cutting off Arthur as he tried to speak. "Is take care of your sister. I've got mutants to kill."
"B - but, Genie..."
Geneva didn't spare a look at him, instead drawing an arrow from her quiver. She tuned her bow to check if it was alright, with Arthur curiously observing. She noticed this and glared at him.
"Don't follow me."
With that, she set off towards the house, leaving Arthur behind her. Priscilla winked at him. "Still no luck with 'Genie', brother?"
"Oh, zip it."

“Oh, zip it,” said Arthur, annoyed. He bit his lip, thinking hard. The fighting seemed to have moved away from them at the moment, and there weren’t any mutants in sight. Surely he could just leave Pricilla here and go after -?
All of a sudden, a horrible scream came from the edge of town. It has to be said for Arthur that he took a few steps towards the source of the noise before, as he would say, his common sense came back. However, Pricilla, who had inherited far more grit than her brother, started towards the sound.
“Cilla!” Arthur said, grabbing her by the shoulder. “What the blazes are you doing?!” Pricilla glared and wrenched herself out of Arthur’s grip.
“I’m going to find out who that was,” she said, running towards the source. “And you can’t do anything about it!” Then she turned her back on him and poured on the speed. Arthur thought he saw the glint of a small knife in her hand, but she vanished behind a house before he could be sure.
Swearing, Arthur seized a hatchet that was leaning against a neighboring house. If Pricilla got them both killed for this…
