"Rowan"

I looked at the girl next to me, amazed someone had come that close to me--someone who wasn't even sick, yet. I turned away briefly to cough, but then turned back to the girl, looking down so as not to breath on her.
"I was," I murmered, not even embarassed. "It's fine, y-you don't have...have to." I coughed, turning away. "It's not even life anymore. It's death. But I--I trust He's there. He'll help us...I hope."
I sputtered as I coughed, another chill running up my spine. Then everything went calm, normal. These fits...like sudden tantrums my body threw, torturing me...

Because after all, those wings will take you up so high."

Alex

Alex shivered as another of the children he shared a cell with began coughing. He could feel the germs flying in the air, waiting to infect the terrified child or careless guard.

Alex froze as he felt a tickle in his own throat. He coughed quietly in his elbow, and crossed the room to the door. He tried to breath through the crack in the door. His skin crawled with the sickness. He was terrified to his wits end. Alex did not know how much longer he could stand being in such a filthy environment without going completely crazy.

Alex glanced out of the small window in the door. He spotted a doctor walking down the hall. Alex narrowed his eyes. There was something strange about the doctor. He seemed to... young, Alex supposed, but he couldn't be sure, because the glass was distorted.

Alex decided to risk a quick few taps on the window glass. He quickly wiped his finger on his clothes, but the taps had done their purpose. The doctor, who was not a doctor, turned slowly to glance at Alex.

RainingSunshine said I could join. Yippee! I'll post as soon as I catch up on my reading.

Name: Rhen Kastle

Age: 14

Personality: Rhen’s the kind of girl who won’t take any help if she can help herself. Strong bodied and strong willed, she’d sooner die than admit weakness. She leaves the room or hurries to a secluded corner if she doesn’t think she feels tough enough for social interaction. She believes boys and girls are exactly equal, and so sets anyone who thinks they’re better because of their gender straight. That’s been a problem once or twice. She doesn’t care if you catch the disease from her, because if you do that’s your problem, your fault, and it had nothing to do with her. She’s just a host. It’s not her problem if you become a host, too, because of her.

Appearance: Rhen.

She has long, thin brown hair that reaches the small of her back and your basic bangs, kept trimmed above her eyebrows. Of course, you can hardly see her eyebrows, being hidden under the thick rims of her Buddy Holly glasses. Skinny build due to the fact that the sickness makes her lose her appetite, about 5’ 5”. Wears modest clothing, like turtlenecks and long pants, just ‘cause that’s her style.

State of Health: Somewhere between “Nearly Dying” and “Sick”. She’s in a constant state of Crummy (You know that feeling you get with a really bad cold or the flu, where your skin feels inside out and you feel too weak to think let alone move and you can’t decide whether you’re hot or cold? That’s what I call Crummy.). Most of the time she’s just Crummy, but once in a while she’ll get an incredibly high fever that will come in moments and leave in half an hour. It gives her a headache that makes tears come, she will be incredibly cold, and sometimes she will puke. That’s that. Highly contagious.

Gender: Female

Extra: I suppose she’s up for love, if the age difference is small enough. Wears a surgical mask all the time. Reads to pass the time between misery breakouts.

Anything else acquired by the testing: Her sight. She can see perfectly well in the dark. The catch is that she’s nearly blind without her nerdy glasses. Think Velma.

Lucas - Not Infected

He walked over to Rae. She was curled up in a ball, and constantly coughing.

"Are you ok?" He asked. He knew the answer, she was terribly sick, but she was strong, and if he kept her awake, and talking, he had hope she was going to get better. He sat down beside her in the cosy spot in the corner.

She coughed again and covered her mouth with her sleeve. He looked at her, and her hair flicked in a blurred moment as the present and future combined. Her image slightly foggy, but still beautiful.
Mo. was here. :) mwahahaha

Rae - Slightly ill

Rae took her sleeve away from her mouth and smiled weakly at Lucas. He was being pretty brave coming over to her when she was coughing, it was pretty likely that he'd catch the disease if he carried on like that. But she still couldn't bring herself to push him away when he came over, Rae was too selfish to do that.
"I'm fine," she replied, "A lot better than some, anyway."
Soberly, she surveyed the crowded cell of coughing children. Most of them were younger, some of them were her age. And they were all stuck here, slowly dying of a disease none of them could cure. She turned her face to Lucas, still full of a terrible melancholy and tried to smile again.
"Still feeling good?"
"It is curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want."

Lucas - Not Infected

"I'm fine", he replied. Why would Rae always be so nice! She was deathly ill and asking me how I was? He looked at her, her eyes pleading, pleading for a cure, a cure to save us all. He brought her into a hug and stroked her back. I honestly didn't care if I got sick - It's not fair that I'm not sick yet. What did I do to deserve this, why me, over the others that are here. Why aren't they still healthy, and why am I not the one coughing?

These thoughts continued to confuse him, until he saw the shape of a white figure in a lab coat.
"There back." He whispered in her ear.
Mo. was here. :) mwahahaha

Lily

Feeling slightly worse than before, Lily struggled to sit up. Veriane, who was sitting next to her, suddenly quieted her constant coughing. Looking at the door, Lily saw why.
A figure in a white lab coat had walked into the room.
"Not again." Lily moaned. The whitecoat merely looked at her, and then turned away. Lily sank down to the floor and closed her eyes, struggling to block out the new visitor, who was now talking.

Veriane

I stared at the whitecoat, scrambling backwards. My coughing had stopped for now, but it would start up again very soon. It didn't bother me too much that I would die soon; after all, who would miss me? The part that I was afraid of was the sickness. It gnawed at me like a hungry animal that just wouldn't get its fill.

I felt the tickle in throat again, and let out a moan. Then I started coughing violently. I was still coughing up blood.
Just another quack spouting psychobabble.

The man in the white coat just looked around for a moment, with something like sadness in his eyes. Huh,Lily thought. If he's so evil, why does he look sad?
Turning around to face the wall, she let out a hacking cough that spewed blood on her sleeve. Shuddering, she looked at the man again as he spoke.
"You can call me Sir."

Richard

Richard stood against a wall thinking a moment. He was processing the events that had just taken place. A man, a scientist, had figured him out, but instead of raising an alarm, he seemed happy. The man introduced himself as "Sir" and told him he was a doctor who was fed up with the whole experiment and wanted to end it. He's been working on a cure, but he needs to test it.

Pushing off the wall Richard began walking So he's made his move. It would appear he's the king on our side. So that must mean I'm a knight. Sir had given Richard one task, free the sick in block 2 and bring them to a rondevu point where he was to meet up with Sir and the sick in block 1.

Just as he was coming up on the cells door he heard tapping on the glass. Smiling he slowly made his way to the door. He tapped twice on the glass and there was one in return. Opening the door he saw a boy standing in front of him. "What's your name?"

"Alex. Who are you?"

"Long story short one of you, and I'm getting you all out of here. A man named "Sir", a scientist, appears to me on our side," replied Richard

"Where are you taking us?" Asked Alex.

"If we're lucky, to a cure."

(Note, Alex is not with any of the other infected characters. "Sir" will take them, you all, except for Alex, are not with my character. Just to clarify so there are no misunderstandings.)
Who is stronger; the one who never gets knocked down or the one who never stops getting back up?

Rowan--Slightly sick:

The disease spread through me like wildfire one minute, and the next it had come to a calm. It wasn't too bad. I hadn't coughed up blood, yet. Most of the others were coughing it up rapidly. I dreaded the day when that became of me, but I also longed for it. The sooner this ended, the sooner I could leave it all behind. The pain, the desperation...everything.
Part of me still wanted to hold on, and that was what was keeping me from just full on letting go. That, and my immune system. I had to give it credit for keeping the disease this down low this long.
Sitting in the corner, still, one small tear trickled down my cheek, the wet path a trail up and down my face. I let it fall, but that was the only one. No more tears. I had to stay strong...had to.
I didn't have anyone or anything to live for, except life itself.
Part of me was wondering if I would even be missed if I died.

She was sitting there, listening to the poor child. It all seemed so... unreal. Rowan started to sob again, so she pulled him (her?) over and hugged them. This was just terrible. She couldn't let all of these lives end here. Definitly not here. Right about that moment, she saw the door open across the cell. The person standing on the other side wasn't wearing a white coat. The person was conversating with another sick kid that had been on this side of the cell.

She cleared her throat, and said "Hello?"

Rae - Slightly ill

She closed her eyes tightly, trying to focus in on the guy called "Sir"'s thoughts. She caught glimpses of sadness, regret and hope. But that was all. There wasn't much hatred there, but he probably wasn't feeling in a bad mood at that particular moment.
Rae cursed the fact that her power was so limited, that the she couldn't delve into someone's mind and discover their true intentions, their true feelings and their past. So much is hidden when you can only see the surface.

It wasn't usual to speak, for her. Generally she would just stay quiet, just let the events unfold as they would and keep her thoughts to herself. And she figured that this time might not be that different. Rae just leant against Lucas and waited for the man to explain himself.

Lucas - Not Infected

"It's OK", he kept whispering into Rae's ear.
She coughed, and everytime she did it killed him.

He hated the sickness, if he could just, get his hands on the evil, sinister, heartless person who ran this thing - they wouldn't live long enough to even breath a shallow greeting, to spit his name.

He comforted Rae, his only friend in the world, the only person he would be sad to leave behind if he died.

(everyone okay with me playing Sir?)

Rowan--Slightly sick:

I put my head on my knees and stared sideways at the wall. The sickness hadn't bothered me for the past three hours, but I knew better than to think I'd fought it off. This sickness was unbeatable...or it seemed so, anyways. I'd lasted this long, and some hope was inside of me that I might live. "Sir" seemed like the answer, and when I thought about him curing us, or trying, it all seemed alright. All seemed possible--and...I let a small smile go. It was brief, but as it faded I felt better.
I tried to think if Sir would lie to us, if he was just luring us to a quick death. Which, would, in a way, be helping us...every time I thought about it, it was so clear he was being honest with us. He would save us...try, at least.
