Not sure if this is a completely original title, nut its another story set during the fall of man.
Its 2023. 2012 came and wen without an apocalypse in sight, but now we may face extinction. World War Three erupted in Eastern Europe, but soon spread to the rest of the world. Within a year the war went nuclear and half the earths population died in an instant. Explosions tore great scars in the earth that threw tons of ash and soot into the air. The ash clouded the atmosphere and froze the planet into a semi ice-age.
In the ensuing chaos civilization collapsed and PMC's (Private Military Company's) leftover after the war rose to control the new order. The PMCs have instituted a fragile peace that only reaches as far as the great walls built around the cities.
Outside the walls, the only safe places left are the trading posts that have sprung up in the few arable locations. In these few fortified towns there is a mutual non-aggression treaty, but outside of them, there are no laws. But for the survivors in the wilderness, there are worse things out there than humans.
Radiation left over from the war has created monsters that threaten the human settlements. The radiation effects every animal, but certain ones are more common that others (we can decide). It has even left its mark on humans, in more ways than one.
Radiation has created a new race of human commonly called Witcher. Physically the only difference is that they are generally paler, and their eyes are unusually bright, and they are stronger, faster than normal humans, but only by degrees. Mentally however they are quite different. Every 1 in 10 Witcher will be born with a special gift (varies greatly, from seeing the future, to being able to re grow body parts), it is because of this difference that they are hated. In the cities they are enslaved and their gifts extorted by the PMCs, but in the wilderness they are simply outcast, and hunted by some people wanting to make some money.
The second change is magic. Magic is present in almost all humans (Witchers and normal humans) but very few can manage the complete concentration required to actually channel magic into spells. Magic resembles the gifts of the Witchers, but is normally not as powerful. Magic is the cause of radiation however, and the more someone uses it, and the more powerful they are, the greater tole it will take on their mind, eventually driving them crazy.
This is the world you live in. The peace is balanced on the edge of a sword, and about to fall off. Someone is pitting the PMC's against each other and inciting war. The great machines of the old world are rising and prowling the wilderness. But something more is going on. The monsters are getting more aggressive and pushing against the settlements. One has to wonder if the two are connected. With war brewing in the cities its up to you, the writers, to find out who is doing this, and stop them.
YOUR CHARACTER
Your character can be whatever you want. He/She can be from the city and work for one of the PMCs, he/she can be a slave, or a king. I only have one rule for character creation. if you want to belong to a PMC then collaborate with some other writers so that we do not have five different ones in the same city.
