Karana looked up when Irik stood. His words were arousing, persuasive. Hell, maybe he meant it as an act and not just a way to encourage others. Karana held her head up.

"Count me in," she announced, drawing his attention. "What's your plan, 'cause you damn well know I'll pitch in."

Irik smiled. "Just leave everything to me, I'm going to do what I do best."

"Oh yeah? And what's that?" Kasey asked, her tone a little pessimistic.

"Improvise," Irik answered.

Jaden sighed, he wished he had his brother's courage. He was ready to give up while they were in the desert, but Irik encouraged him to keep moving. That's how they were able to find Jirachai. He rested his head against the wall and glanced out the window beside him.

He could see the place the soldiers were taking them about a mile away. It looked like some sort of barracks surrounded by a wall of wire fences. There was only one mech in sight, and it was patrolling the fence. Even if Irik was true to his word and found a way to break everyone out, he doubted they would make it past that machine.

As they got closer Jaden noticed a flatbed truck in the facility. It was hard to miss since it was the largest truck there. It was being led into some sort of hangar. The truck was carrying something, but because of the large tarp covering it Jaden couldn't tell what it was. All he could tell was it was bigger than any person, yet smaller than the truck they were riding in now.

Before he could think about it any further the truck stopped. They were all led out of the truck by armed soldiers. The soldiers brought them all to their cells, which were located in the opposite side of the complex.

(Just so you know, that thing on the flatbed is going to be important. But you guys don't need to worry about that right now, just let me handle it when the time comes.)

They were all placed in the same cell. Irik was leaning against the cell door while everyone else was sitting on the ground. Irik's eyes were darting all over the place, as if trying to find something he could use.

After a few minutes of waiting, Kasey began to get impatient. "You said you were going to bust us out, didn't you?" she asked. "Well, what are you waiting for?"

"Keep your pants on," he said. "I have an idea." He shouted at the guard at the end of the hall, "Hey, pin-head! Nice suit, did your boyfriend buy it for you?"

The guard came over to their cell, and he was obviously not happy. "Say that again, punk," he said.

Irik smiled. "What's the matter? Did I hurt hurt the little sissy's feelings?"

The guard unlocked their cell and stepped in. He grabbed Irik by the shoulder and punched him in the face. Irik was on the ground in seconds, with the guard kicking him in the stomach over and over again.

Jaden got to his feet. "Stop hurting him!" he yelled.

The guard gave him a menacing look and said, "Stay out of this, or you're next!" There was nothing any of them could do except watch the guard beat Irik. When the man was satisfied he said, "If I hear you again I'm going to give you more than just a couple a bruises," before going back to his post and closing the cell door behind him.

"Brother!" Jaden went to Irik's side to see if he was all right.

"I'll be right back, Anna," Kasey said before going to him as well. The two of them helped Irik back up to his feet. "That was your plan? Getting yourself beat up by a guard? Are you an idiot?"

Irik smiled as he adjusted his glasses. "How else was I supposed to get these from him?" he asked as he dangled the guard's keys in front of her face.

Kasey~

I stared dumbly at Irik as he dangled the keys in my face. "Nice plan weed head." I said with a grin that quickly grew into a frown,. "So how exactly are we going to sk=neak out when there guards at both end of the hall?"

"Kasey calm down at least he got the keys." Rebecca incoraged.

"Well what happens when the guard finds out he's missing his keys?" I asked with a glare towards Irik. "If he figures it out before were out then were all going to pay for it."

"Will you relax?" Irik said. "You're way too uptight, babe."

Kasey frowned harder at his use of the word babe. "I have a name, you know. It's Kasey."

Irik smiled. "Nice to meet you, babe. My name's Irik." He didn't wait for her to say anything else. He got up and went back to the cell door. He looked down both ends of the hall. The guard that he had stolen the keys from was walking back to his post, and the guard at the other end of the hall was looking away. "Perfect," he said as he unlocked the door.

"Hey, pinhead!" he called again. "Is that all you've got? My grandmother can hit harder than you!"

The guard turned around and made his way back to their cell. "That's it, punk. I'm going to make you regret those words!" He called out to the other guard. "Hey, give me a hand with this guy!" The other guard met him at their cell. They both stood in front of the door as the first guard fished around for his keys.

"Ah-hem," Irik said to get their attention. He dangled the keys in front of them and asked, "Looking for these?"

Irik didn't give either of them a chance to answer. He kicked the door open with all his might, knocking both men against the cell across from them. Irik ran up to them, grabbed both their heads, and slammed them against each other, knocking them both unconscious.

"Now, what's say we get everyone else out of their dingy cells and bust this joint?" Irik asked, but not before stripping the two guards of all their weapons and locking them both into an empty cell.

"OK now what genius?" asked Kasey, "Do you know how to get out of here considering we didn't see how we got in?"
Irik frowned at the girl and I got up from the floor. "the way out is to the right," I said while turning left.
"Then why are you turning left?" asked Karana.
"Because." I muttered.
"Does it have something to do with that man? He seemed happy to see you earlier on. How do we know that you're not going to give us away?" she asked suspiciously.
I sighed and ignored her as I walked away, suddenly, I felt a hand grab my shoulder and pull me back I turned to face Irik, "I don't know what your problem is but I just got you out of that cell and so you owe me one, do us a favour and listen to the lady, or the rest of us will never hear the end of it. Or at least tell us why you need to go left."
I pushed the man away from me and looked at the small group in the hall, "there is no reason for me to want to go left," I said somewhat reluctantly underneath the layers of my scarf.
"So lets go!" someone in the back of the group shouted.

They freed the rest of the captive villagers before making their way through the complex. Irik grabbed a gun and sword off the two knocked out soldiers before leading the way.

"So Brother, how are we going to get past that mech outside?" Jaden asked.

Irik gave him a confused look. "The what?"

"The giant robot that's patrolling the complex. If we're going to get out of here we need to get past that thing."

"Huh..." Irik started scratching his chin. "You know, I haven't thought that far yet."

Jaden sighed. It was just like Irik not to think things through. "Listen, the only way we can get everyone to safety is if we take some of those trucks outside."

"Good idea," Irik said. He grabbed Jaden by the shoulder and pulled him down a different hall.

"Where are you going?" Kenji shouted. "That's not the right way!"

"We can't leave while that big robot is still out there, right?" Irik tossed the gun to Kenji, who caught it with one hand. "You lead everyone to the trucks. Jaden and I are going to the hangar to find some firepower."

Damn those idiots, I thought as I watched them as they walked away smiling and encouraging each other. I looked for the outgoing woman, Karana I remembered. I grabbed her arms and said get those people to the trucks and I handed her the gun, "Where are you going?" She asked.
"I'm going to help those idiots over there." I muttered.
"Wont you need the gun then?"
"No" I said irritated, I don't even know how to use a gun, I thought to myself.
"You are a bigger idiot than them!" She shouted as I ran after the two so called brothers.
Almost impulsively I laughed and shouted over my shoulder, "What use is a pair of binoculars to a blind man? Shouldn't he give them to a man who can see?" I never caught her reply as I ran around the corner that the two others had just went around. I soon caught up with them.

(That's too bad. At least you tried your best, right?

By the way Ayumi is on a week-long trip to Arkansas this week and won't be back until around this weekend. So she won't be able to post until then.

There's a certain way I want this part to play out, so this post may be a long one.)

Kenji caught up to the brothers while they were standing in front of the hangar's door. "I thought I told you to get everyone outside?" Irik said when he saw him.

"There's no way you idiots are going to be able to pilot one of those mechs on your own," Kenji said.

"So I suppose you know how?" Irik asked.

"I know how to control them a little, which is more than you two."

"We can argue about this later," Jaden said. "Right now, let's just worry about getting one of those things."

The three of them snuck into the hangar. Surprisingly enough, there were no soldiers guarding the place. But that might be because there were no mechs to guard.

"Where are all the robots?" Irik asked. "Isn't this where they keep 'em all?"

"It is, they must all be out on a mission or something," Kenji said.

Jaden scanned the giant room for something they could use when his eyes settled on the flatbed he saw earlier. "Hey, that's the truck from before!"

"So?" Kenji asked.

"Whatever its carrying might help us." Jaden ran over to the truck with Irik and Kenji following behind. "Help me get this tarp off," Jaden said as he started releasing the hooks holding the giant plastic sheet covering the cargo. With Irik and Kenji's help they took off the tarp in no time.

They climbed up onto the back to see what the cargo was. "What is that?" Jaden asked, staring at it.

"I've never seen this model before," Kenji said. "I don't think I could operate it even if I tried."

Irik simply smiled and said, "We'll soon find out how then, won't we?"

Karana didn't like the idea of shooting anyone, even if the person was an imperial soldier. But they had to get out, even if it meant hurting someone.

They made it outside with surprisingly little resistance. The darkness of the night would keep them from being seeing, that is if they managed to stay out of the roaming spotlights. If they were caught, every soldier in the complex would be on them in a matter of seconds.

She spotted the trucks on the other side of the property. They would have to get past two spotlights in order to reach them. Karana said over her shoulder to everyone, "Keep quiet, and stay close."

She lead everyone past the first spotlight with little difficulty. Karana signalled everyone to stop when the second light came by. When it passed, they started moving again. They were almost at the trucks, just a few more yards to go.

Kasey looked down at Anna, who was clinging to her arm. "Be brave, we're almost out of here."

Suddenly, Anna tripped. Kasey went to help her up, but fell behind the group. That's when the second spotlight came back, and passed right over the two of them.

Every alarm in the complex blared as all the lights turned on. Voices from all over yelled things like, "The prisoners are trying to escape!" or, "Stop them!" Soon, every soldier in the facility, plus the mech, had surrounded them.

Karana muttered, "Dammit, we were so close!"

The sound of crashes in the hangar caught everyone's attention, even the soldiers. An object slightly smaller than one of the trucks suddenly flew out threw the open bay doors. It whipped around in the air in an erratic pattern. Screams could be heard over the sound of its thrusters. By some miracle the object managed to land safely in front of everyone.

The object was a miniature mech. Its long legs and short arms gave it the look of a bird. The cockpit was small and open. Irik and Kenji were squished into the back seat, while Jaden was sitting in the pilot's chair clinging to the controls.

"Are you crazy?" Kenji yelled. "You nearly killed us!"

"I don't even know how to work this thing!" Jaden shouted back. He looked over his shoulder at Irik and asked, "Why are you making me drive?"

One of the soldiers yelled, "They're stealing the prototype! Stop them!" An instant later every gun in the area was pointed away from the people by the trucks and trained on them.

"Quick, do something!" Irik shouted.

"I'm trying!" Jaden yelled back as he pressed every button he could see. The back of the machine opened up to reveal two racks of missiles. One of the thrusters turned on, causing the mech to spin out of control. It began firing missiles in every direction. One of the spotlight towers was the first to go, then an empty truck in the distance. Two missiles hit the hangar, causing the ceiling to cave in, then three more hit the enemy mech, one in the arm and two in them leg. The giant machine fell to its knees, incapacitated. Another missile hit the ground near the edge of the group of soldiers. The impacted caused some of them to go flying. The soldiers began to panic and ran back to the building.

Karana ignored the boys' crazy stunt for the moment and yelled, "Now's out chance! Everyone into the trucks!"

Rebecca

I tried to run towards the truck, but something sharp stung my back. I fell. There was blood everywhere. One of the soldiers had shot at me. My skinn burned. Everything was hot. Someone jumped out of the car, grabbed me, and put me inside. I couldnt breathe. Now blood was coming from my mout dripping down my face onto my favorite top. I sunk back, into someones arms, and closed my eyes. I felt nothing anymore. Not pain, No agony. Simply nothing. "Finally I find peace." I mumbled. I heard exited voices. "Rebecca? You'll be OK!. Shes bleeding. Bloods everywhere. Help!". I squeezed the hand that held mine, and suddenly I was in darkness. I didnt struggle against it. I knew it would bring freedom.

(It just had to be my people that trip o well. How could you kill my people best friend! O well I can't talk since I killed Gale in hunted.)

Anna~

As we made it to the trucks I noticed rebbeca wasn't with us. I glanced back to see Kasey jumping out of the truck to get her. I looked at a crumpled red lump on the ground only to relize that it was Rebbeca! Anna managed to scoop her up in her arms gentle but swiflty and put her in the truck.

I stared at her in horror as blood gushed from her it was like a a dam had broken. And the worst part was that we could fix it. "I finally found peace. . ." I head her mumer as she sunk into Kasey arms and her gip on my hand loosend, as she slowly slipped away.

"Do something Anna!" Kasey wailed, as tears fell down her face.

"I can't." I whispered as I looked down at my small hand that was supporting her larger one. "It's to late." I choked out as the first tears fell down my face. I knew this was my fault. . .it only I didn't of fall.
