Yep. My characters have minds of their own. You wouldn't believe the sort of thing they've made me let them do...

Mine have done that just a little bit. And I can see hints of it happening in the future. Grrrrrrrrrr.

... There was this one time, my main character was a slave, and she hit the slave master! Just when I was going to get her free too!!! So then she got thrown in a separate cell, and I had to invent a new escape route for her... Oh, and in the story I was writing before this one (never finished, because of this) the Main Character DIED!!! And I couldn't resurect her either!!! I tried over an over! Well, that story died along with her... forgive my rambling. I'll stop now...

Until this year, I really only wrote for school. I'm hopeless at keeping a daily journal. I tried a lot. That was my first writing for fun.

I had a ton of ideas bouncing around in this empty space I call my mind. Finally I decided to put them down on paper. I can never seem to finish most stories. I'd love to get published someday. Like I'll ever finish an entire novel. I could try though.

I write because it's like an alternate reality for me. When I read a book, I'm escaping into another world and I'm given the honor of viewing a person's life through this small window. Writing is ten times better. I get to see through the large window, from any view I want, and I get to converse with my characters, even BE my characters!

I do know what you mean about characters having a mind of their own! Crysi ran out the door before I could get her to convince her family they should all go together, and now the King wants to know the honest answers to his questions! In a rough draft of an ending I'm not going to use, Crystalia had lost all hope, and before I could convince her to do otherwise, she dived off a cliff and failed to open her wings to catch herself. I never wrote about the exact moment she hit the ground, so I was able to discard that ending. I scolded her, of course.

Hold on.. Malkin is whispering in my ear, reminding me that I still need to tell the King what to ask them. He wants to know the questions himself, but he'll just have to wait.

Anyway, I would love to get published someday, just to see my name on bookshelves and to share my world with others. And remember, no matter how bad the book is, if it's published, someone will read it. And chances are that book will be around for a long time. Which means that even after you're gone, your name may still remain in libraries, and you will be added to the list of all writers' dreams: the list of published authors.

you know, I read somewhere that books ARN'T always around for a very long time. Sure, the ones that get bought are, but otherwise, bookshops stop buying them when they stop selling well. So, they HAVE to sell well to be around for a long time. Sorry, bleak depressing fact.

I dream of exactly the same thing!

Oh how I wish for that day. The best thing would be if I was still at college because then I could show it off...but of course, I don't care what other people think about me...right?

Having my name on a book is probably only my second best dream about writing, the best is just writing. I love it, the publishing part is cool, but not quite as good, does that make sense?

Hmm yeh, but writing isn't really a dream. I can do it anytime. Yes, I love it, but I'd like to think that one day it will turn into a full time career for me, not just a hobby...

I just want to finish this story I'm working on and finish it's second-part. After that, I just want those that read it to enjoy it.

*nods*

Sometimes that's what gets me through the writing process. I almost gave up hope a few days ago because I had horrible writer's block.. or so I thought. But I kept working at it because I knew there were people who had read my first chapter and wanted to read more, so I had to keep going. And I'm through it now, yay! :D

Hmm. Well, where are you in your story and what's the cause of your writer's block?

My best advice is to just completely forget about it. People get writer's block from concentrating too much and trying to force their creative mind to create, which isn't possible (creativity comes from spontaenity). What I always do is to take a long walk for anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour by myself. Although I do take my dog with me when I'm at home.

Basically doing anything that does not involve writing is good; plus, stay away from the area where you write. Watching TV is fine, although that doesn't jog the creative mind nearly as well as joking. Stretching is great, and so is playing a game like Chess or Risk.
