"Okay, you all know the rules," I said, handing out the containers to the five children. "No going out past one hundred feet of the village, no stealing from other pups, and you all have to be back by sunrise at the latest."
One of the girls raised her hand and asked, "What are we supposed to get?"
"I was getting to that," I said and looked down at my paper. "You need something to help cure a stomach ache after a meal, something else to help you relax, something to cure a cough, something to relieve a fever, and something to make you fall asleep."
"You couldn't just tell us the names?" She repeated.
"What good would it do you to know what the plants were called if you didn't know what they were used for? Any last questions?" When I got no reply, I smiled and continued. "Alright then, three. Two. Go!"
And they were off, bags in hand. Dill, Chamomile, Catnip, Feverfew, and Valerian, I thought. I wonder how many they'll get, or even if someone gets them all.
I morphed into a wolf and raced for the one hunderd foot line we all knew so well.
