Marten
A pretty local girl was trying to find out what he saw in the princess he'd been engaged to - and obviously trying to convince him to pick her instead - when Gesin tapped him on the shoulder. "Your highness..." The big man said, "Rello found one of the thieves. He has her in a room upstairs. Do you wish to speak with her?"
Marten nodded, then excused himself from the conversation with the local girl, making his way upstairs. Rello was waiting by a closed door. Marten nodded towards it, "In there?" The guard nodded, turning a key in the lock and allowing it to swing open for the prince. Then the two guards left him, returning to the main bar.
The prince walked inside the room, immediately noticing that there was no one within. His leather boots tapped quietly against the floor as he did a slow turn of the chamber, as though wondering where his prisoner was. Without checking under the bed, where he reasoned she had to be, he left, leaving the door slightly ajar on his way out.
He had to wait less than a minute before he heard a quiet scrabbling within the room, and gently nudged the door open again. The thief was dusting herself off and rearranging what could almost be described as clothing.
She let out a brief scream as she caught sight of him, and he rolled his eyes, "Please, I'm not going to kill you or anything." He eyed her outfit for a moment and smirked, "What, you were going to use that to rob me?"
She drew a knife, taking a few steps away from him, "Stay back."
Marten gestured to the rapier at his side, "That wouldn't help you at all. But I don't mean to hurt you, milady,
only properly introduce myself." He flashed a smile at her, then bowed a little, "Prince Marten Lafavre, at your service."
He'd clearly thrown her off, which had been his intention. Why wasn't he having her locked up? Well, for starters, she was small time, there wasn't much point throwing her in prison. Then, there was the possibility of someone like her being connected - however distantly - with the thief king in this area. He in turn was the most likely person to have any kind of information relating to Samuel. If the sorcerer had been anywhere nearby. In any case, that was what he told himself his reasons were, and they would have been the same if the other one had been captured, rather than the girl who was facing him with a knife in her hand.
