Jack
"Hey, can I get some help here?!" Zire called, and we all looked up. He was being attacked by a bull, and only just managed to dodge out of the way. The bull kept running - straight towards a wall - but at the last minute, it seemed to blur. Its form became that of a small cat, and it ran up the rocky face, turned, and morphed back into bull form before charging back towards Zire.
"What is that thing?" I said, looking between my friends.
"We don't know for sure," Zane said, staring at it, "But I think it's a shapeshifter of some kind. It can talk, and it showed up as a puppy, then turned into a gorilla, through Cappy into the lake, then started doing this thing."
"Well, if it can talk," I said, cracking my knuckles, "Then it's intelligent. I can work with that." I mentally reached out, touching its mind, trying to find out the reason it was doing this. Rage...rage and...fear? I paused, frowning, Why? I reached out again, and found something strange accompanying the fear. "It's protecting something." I said.
"What?" Zane asked.
"I don't know, you need Kimberlee for that." I said, thinking hard, What can I make it feel easily, then? To stop attacking us?
"Guys? A little help would be nice!" Zire shouted from across the small lake.
Calm down, we merely wandered into the wrong area. We mean you and whatever you protect no harm. The thought wouldn't reach the shapeshifter as words, but rather as a calming feeling, letting it know that they were not a threat. It paused, as though resisting. "Back off, Zire!" I shouted, "Make sure it knows we don't want to hurt it!"
