Hiriam and Hester emerged from the Chateau looking as radiant as ever. I would have to be careful with them. The world had changed much since they frequented the outside world. I surveyed my companions in the carriage with a carefully faked arrogance. I caught Williams glance out of the corner of my eye. He looked anxious, no, genuinely afraid. To many of these people i would seem a monster but when we reached Paris that was an opinion i intended to change.
I reached into my doublet and pulled out a small packet of cards.
"Anyone care to play? A casual game to pass the time until we reached the jewel of France." There were a few nods but no surge of vocal enthusiasm. I began shuffling the cards with hands that had seen much practise in the act. I noticed William looking at my hands and it took me moment to realise why. I wasn't just shuffling quickly, my hands were almost a blur. It was then i truly realised what had been done. I may still appear human but i was no longer. I was faster, stronger, far more so than a human. They had been created for war and they were perfect for it. I would have to be careful not to give myself away.
"Are you going to deal or not?" Asked Joshua casually.
