{The HISTORY.}

A masquerade. A night so magical that anyone will show up, even the king. But the fright and horror of one single night sent the world into turmoil. He had no face. Such a simple concept, wasn’t it? But really, he had no face.

I remember staring into those black and lifeless pools that were supposed to be his eyes. But I still felt a connection to him. He was begging me to save him. He’d been revealed. But he was still human ... right?

Wrong. We are not human. We were created as weapons to be used for mass murder during the French revolution. The king created them, only to set them aside. And when they were released, they had no where to go. Their successor was dead. Where were they to go? Without a home, they headed to an abandoned concert hall, and created Le Château du Seul.

And together these ‘lost souls’ banded together to fight society— peacefully, that is— and become part of the world again. To become human. But though their faces would never be restored, a miniature revolution raged on behind society’s eyes, ears, and knowledge. No one ever learned about these strange creatures who struck fear into the heart of even the toughest man. ‘Vampires’ they called them. But truly they were peaceful beings just like them.

In records that the government kept, they called this the ‘Forgotten Revolution’ therefore making sure that they eliminated ‘such menace’ before they harmed anyone. They saw them as demons, but truly, they weren’t!

‘The Masquerade’— as they soon called themselves— lived inside Le Château du Seul, and soon began inviting society to come and join their parties. Here, at masquerades, they could be like everyone else, without revealing their faces.

But the government soon found out, and by the year 1805, almost all the ‘strange beings’ had been eliminated, killed without hesitation, and left lying in a heap, in their own puddle of crimson blood, on the floor somewhere inside of the immaculate castle. But one survived. His name? Hiram Bartlett.

I met him one evening at the ball, and soon found myself besotted by his charm. A man whom I did not love, but who loved me, revealed the identity of Hiram. But I was still in love with the heart that beat in his chest. He was still human.

{The PLOT.}

You are one of the ten new members of the ‘Masquerade’. You find yourself mingling with the guests, and wishing for the chance to live normally. You all grew up differently. Some were farmers, other paper boys, some seamstresses. A few, even, were pure-blood elites, who found themselves defying their parents’ wishes and attending the ball.

But the only true reason that you are there with Hiram and his love, (whom narrated the story above) Hester Jeanes, is because you want to prove to society that you are normal. You want to bring down the government. Along the way, though, you may fall in love, venture down the wrong path, and experience your share of hardships. You’re a young adult in London, England, just trying to get your life back.

{RULES.}
* No ‘God-Modding’
* No killing other people’s characters without their permission
* No excessive gore (keep it PG-13, please)
* Don’t sware a lot, please. (PG-13)
* Relationships are allowed, but A) remember this is the 1800s, and B) keep it PG-13
* No magic powers
* Correct grammar, please (Try).
* At least six sentences every post
* Each post must be at least six lines long, or longer. No one-line posts.
* One character for now. We only have ten slot. If it doesn’t fill up fast, go ahead and make more (with my permission, or course!)
* Be active! If you don’t post in the Storybook (not the DT) for at least one week, your character will be killed.

{Character FORM.}

Stuck for a name? Here are some good male and female names, and here are some good surnames.

[A/N: You cannot play as Hester or Hiram. They are just kind characters there to guide the ten people. And, yes they can see, talk, and breath, despite the fact that they have, no nostrils and their eyes are blacked-out. Why? They’re mutants, clearly. Their sight is as if they're staring from beneath the surface of the water, colours blurred, and not quite as vivid as they really are.]

Name: Please state your surname, then your first and middle. [eg., Bartlett, Hiram James]
Age: Keep it between 16– 20
Gender:
Place of birth/ origin:
Appearance: [No pictures needed, but try to include a picture of your ball gowns/ tuxedos, and masks.]
Personality:
History: [Were they rich, poor, et cetera, before they met Hiram and Hester?]
Other: [Willing to be in a relationship? Quirks? Talents?]
- - -
[NOTE: I have made a discussion thread, and ask that you only post your profile in the storybook. Small comments like 'Can I make two characters?' or 'When do we start?' belong in the Dicussion thread. That's why its there. The storybook should remain that way throughout. Don't let this flop, people!]

Name: Barnes, Charlotte Mercy [However, she only goes by 'Mercy'.]

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Place of birth/ origin: London, England.

Appearance: Mercy has long golden locks of hair, that reach almost her waist. She usually has it piled slightly on top of her head, and a hat on it during the masquerade balls. Mercy has porcelain skin, and a tiny mole above the right side of her scarlet lips. Mercy once had beautiful brown eyes, but now they're forever lost. She is relatively tall, and much too slender for her own good. She tends to starve herself, though Hester forces her to eat. Here is her dress, and this is her mask.

Personality: She is very quiet and chooses her words carefully. She does not wish to worry people, so she tends to stay in the background during the parties, or even not show up at all. She reminsces about her past an awful lot, and still longs to see her parents again. Mercy is not a hard character to read, however. You can usually judge how she's feeling by her voice.

History: Mercy came from a wealthy family. They attended balls quite alot. But when Mercy was changed, her face felt like it was burning, Hirma convinced her that it was for her own good. Reluctantly, Mercy followed, and today she is like a second shadow of Hester's. She wants very much to get her own face back again, or find a cure. But she knows that such a thing will never happen. She knows that she just has to find peace with society some other way.

Other: Up for love, yes she is. Mercy is very afraid of the dark, and thunder. She is a wonderful dancer, and has a cat named Edna.

I claim a spot!!!!!!!

Name: Barnett, Isabelle Lorraine

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Place of Birth/Origin: Paris, France

Appearance: She has long, curly black hair, and a small nose. She nearly always has a small, impish smile playing on her face. She is about average height and slender, almost willowy. Something about the was she holds herself lets it be known of her mischievous personality.

Ball gown: http://www.yesteryearproductions.com/Victorian%20Pic%20Album/slides/1860's%20Ball%20Gown.html

Mask: http://www.mardigrasbeadconnection.com/image/FeatherMaskHH3.jpg (Except, of course, more of a deep blue to match the dress)

Personality: Isabelle is playful and mischievous. Rules do almost nothing to stop her; she enjoys the challenge of breaking them. She is quick, witty, and intelligent. She has a drive to learn, but also she does not mind being a little odd. Beyond her seemingly casual attitude, Isabelle has a huge desire to fit in and be accepted.

History: Isabelle was born to rich parents. She was part of the elite, high, top social class. She's very exposed to the outside world. Her parents were great patrons to the local Opera House, and they would enjoy regular jaunts to their country estates. Isabelle's childhood was punctuated with her parents trying to make Isabelle fit into the cookie-cutter image of what a girl of her age should be. Isabelle resented them for it - that was what ultimately made her go the ball.

Other: Up for love. Isabelle is a talented singer and actress.

Thanks for saving the spot! Not really. I kind of forced it on to you.

Name:
Dowde, Joshua Simon

Age:
20

Gender:
Male

Place of birth/ origin:
Old New Orleans, The French Quarter

Appearance:
His Mask
His Tweed Suit
His Eyes

Joshua it a tall lithe man, his face always hidden by the mask. With the picture of the mask I gave you, imagine extravagant turkey feathers along the one side. You can slightly see the start of them in the picture. He has dark cherry red hair that is slightly curly but is more of a wave than a curl. It reaches almost his shoulders. His mulberry purple eyes are intense and can draw anyone near. His mouth in not sown together, but his face is actually a mixture of other peoples skin. If you ever see Joshua without his mask, or see his arms or legs, you will notice that he is slightly like frankenstien, patched together. His skin tone differs.

Just for your information, his hair matches the lining in his jacket.

Personality: Seems to be the perfect gentleman, in fine clothing and he flatters everyone he meets. But actually, he is a melancholy person, fearful of his life, fearful of others life, and fearful of those around him who find out what exactly he truly is. He is poetic and said, yet he hides it with his elegant dance, and soothing raspy voice. He wished not only to find love, but to be loved for exactly what he truly is.

History:
He was a stable hand, saving every dollar earned for his family. His mother was sickly and laying on her death bed, and her sister was too young to fend for herself in this harsh reality. Joshua worked and worked striving to maybe get the money he needs to help his mother in her condition, but then she died, and was later revealed that it truly was the plague that had killed her. His sister caught the plague right after the death, and she, not wanting to live any longer without her mother, died without even a fight.

Joshua was left in the world, but then the french government pulled him off the street, gave him food and shelter. But that saving was not to be long lasted. They had bought his acceptance and they ended up using him for the elite. Cut to pieces and stitched back together, chemicals colouring his eyes different, they reshaped him, and reshaped his past. They wiped out his flamboyant personality, and replaced it with something that should never have existed.

He was dispersed after a couple of years and was drawn to the coming Hiram, who apparently was just like him. Hiram also had become a disfigured being.

Joshua was a true elite but hated. Mutated as he was, Hester and Hiram brought him in, giving him fine clothes that would conceal his scars and hide his face so that he would not be ashamed any longer.

Other: He is definetely willing to be in a romance, but it will be tricky for anyone who dares to try to take the take of melting his cold heart after being alone for all those cold dark years. Joshua is an artist on his own accord painting pictures of angels and demons on the walls. He is very poetic, and not many people know exactly what gender preference he admires.

I know, I am in the writing mood, so that is incredibly detailed and long. I am into writing melancholy people right now so this will be interesting.

*So, we all wear masks and are vampires, right?*

Name: Grevette, Tash Marko

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Place of birth/ origin: London, England

Appearance: Dark, shaggy hair that will shimmer a light silver in the right light. Cloudy, gray eyes and slight build. He's average height and and wears a midnight black suit with a black and red stripped tie.

Mask: http://foxfires.deviantart.com/art/Masquerade-68531296 (take away the black, polka-dotted lace underneath it)

Personality: He's not loud, but not quiet either. Tash is sometimes found wandering alone in the streets or woods, depsite loving to be in the lime light of parties. He is impuslive, stubborn, and sometimes a little theatrical. Tash will laugh at stupid jokes that make no sense, dance and eat till he falls to the floor and fall asleep, run around strange neighborhoods, and asks random people if they'd like to be friends with him. He falls into ploys too easily and denies every bit of it.

History: Tash was born to a poor mother (the father running off once he knew she was pregnant) and has always had dreams of joining the elites, or royals. One Christmas there was a slightly open door of a building and he ran in, grabbed a suit, and ran out. He decided then and there, changing into the tux behind an abandoned building, that he'd finally go to something fancy. To a ball.

Other: Up for love, is great at finding ways to blend in with most any crowd
Our happiness here is all vain glory,
This false world is but transitory,
The flesh is weak, the Fiend is slee
Timor mortis conturbat me.

Name:
Rowatt, Alexander Martin

Age:
18

Gender:
Male

Place of birth/origin:
Barcelona, Spain

Appearance:
Mask
Tuxedo

Alexander has thick, slightly wavy black hair that nearly reaches his shoulders. His eyes are a deep chocolate brown that appear black in some lights. He has a normal height for his age and is very slim and almost feminine in build. His skin is lightly tanned, and he has a charming smile.

Personality:
Alexander is charming and patient and has a good sense of humor. He is warm and friendly, making him likable and easy to get along with, and knows right from wrong. He has a nasty temper, but it takes a lot for him to get that angry. He's very tolerant and understanding, and is great with children. He doesn't like people who take advantage of others or use them for personal gain, and has a strong sense of justice. Though, like everyone, he has his flaws. His are that he either waits too long, or too short a time on his decisions which often results in unhappiness for himself or anyone else involved. Also, his tongue speaks before his mind has time to realize what he's saying, which can often land him in trouble one way or another.

History:
Alexander was born in Barcelona, Spain to a wealthy, high-class family. As a child, he got almost anything he wanted and his parents smothered him with gifts, despite hardly ever being around. He was raised mainly by a nanny, who taught him that money isn't the only thing to make a person happy in this world. When he grew older, he began to dislike his parents because of that fact that he hardly knew them, yet they insisted on making him a mold of his own father who was a hard-hearted, ruthless man to those below him.

When he was fifteen, his parents moved from Spain to England and Alexander was dragged along as well. Over the years, he had come to hate his parents and this drove him to sneak out at night and explore the new city he lived in. He met Annibelle this way, and has been seeing her ever since. When he learned of the Masquerade, he decided to go without a second thought and invited Annibelle along as well.

Other:
[s]Is up for love.[/s] Has been claimed already. Has a distinct accent (think Prince Caspian from Narnia if you've seen it).
Be the cartoon heart. Light a fire, light a spark. Light a fire, flame in my heart. We'll run wild, we'll be glowing in the dark.

Name: Kristof, Annibelle Sophia

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Place of birth/ origin: Moved to England from Germany when she was still a small child

Appearance: Annibelle
This dress fits the time period better
Mask for with time period fitting dress
The dress I want her in if I'm allowed to set the time period aside
Mask for preferred dress

Personality: Annibelle is determined and stubborn, often seeming overly-confident to the point of cocky. She loves people, but at the same time finds most to be extremely annoying. She is perfectly happy with her social status because the few wealthy people she has met [Alexander aside] aren't good people.

She isn't traditional - she dislikes being told what to do, and would rather find her own way to go about things. She defies orders often. She is easily hurt, and distrusts people.

History: Annibelle and her family moved to England from Germany when she was only 3, in hopes of a better life. They spent much of their money on this trip, leaving them poor in an unfamiliar place. In time they managed to move up to lower-middle class,and life has been about the same from then on.

Annibelle is very pretty - her looks make up for her lack of money, in a way. However, with this comes the burden of constant harassment from drunks and whathaveyou. Once a particularly brave man decided to touch her - a simple grab at her waist. This is how she came to meet the valiant Alexander.

As their relationship progressed, Annibelle learned of Alexander's high social status, and his dislike of it. Then the time comes when he asks her to the masquerade, offering even to pay for her clothing in hopes that she will join him. After much pleading, Annibelle finally agrees.

Other: [s]Up for love [/s] Has been claimed already. She is called Anney by her close friends - namely, Alexander.

Annibelle Kristof - Day of the Masquerade

I follow Alexander closely, not having much choice as our fingers are intertwined in a nearly inseparable way. He dodges the people moving in the opposite direction of us, making a clear path for me. When he finally stops, we are in the middle of town.

After fixing my hair to make sure my face is covered, I glance up at Alex. His dark hair is a mess.

"What are we doing?" I ask, breathing heavily. He smiles, pointing to the sign above us. Loisel's Dresses and Gowns. Still confused, I tilt my head and wait for further explanation.

"You agreed to go to the masquerade tonight, under the condition that you found a dress and mask, correct?"

I nod.

"We're going to get your dress and mask," he explains, pulling me into the store before I can protest.

The store smells sweetly of wood. As we walk through, I touch each dress in turn, amazed by the beauty of the cloth. None o them seem right though.

Then, at the back of the store, I see the perfect dress. It's sleeves poof slightly at the top, near the shoulders, but then follow my slim frame perfectly down to my hands. The torso fits tightly, and the skirt sways as I move in it. It is made of black velvet, with off-white trim and decoration.

"You look beautiful," Alex murmurs, turning from the masks he is looking at. Smiling, he pulls one of the shelf and places it on my face. It covers my face in a small layer of lace, and is adorn with feathers and beads.

His fingers barely graze my skin as he moves away to examine me.
