Kai nodded. "I agree with Ivellios. It should be safer during the day time, at least." He kicked one of the bodies disgustedly. "These are creatures of darkness anyway."

Enya whimpered, tears finally welling up in her eyes. Kai looked at her; she was so young and innocent. She wanted nothing to do with battle, and now that all hell was breaking loose, literally... He pulled her close and wrapped an arm protectively around her. "Don't worry, I won't let anything happen. I promise."

"But...Mom and Dad..."

He sighed. "I know. We'll get back to them...somehow."

Ivellios shifted awkwardly, then began to head into the shadows of the forest. "Let's get moving." The others followed. Kai knew he would have to thank Ivellios somehow, someway. And he would.

They almost didn't notice the ground shaking again, more rocks towering out of the ground. Another gate, five times as large, opened, and more demons spilled out of its mouth.

Adam

Even after all of the day's events, Adam was tempted to say that the boy had gone insane but unfortunately not. Word of these dark gates springing up was coming to them from everywhere! And now people were talking about what came out of the gates, monstrous beings straight from fairytales that carried away children and killed, bloodshed and horror. Worse still was that these weren't from fairytales, they were from history. It was happening all over again.

And resting in the pocket of a humble, honourable thief was perhaps the world's last chance of survival: an amulet. Oh sure, it was the wearer of the amulet that would control its power and bring light again in the dark but without that trinket, nothing would be possible. And Adam had it. Or rather... Tyson.

Something was plaguing his mind, some memory connected with that name and Adam was beginning to realise that as long as he thought of himself as Adam, the shroud over his past would remain. As long as he was Adam, Tyson could not make his voice heard. And some nights that was all very well with Adam who really just wanted a future worth having but others, he felt a sudden gulf. He felt as if he had lost something but had somehow forgotten what and a part of him grieved harder still for that lost knowledge.

"I remember a story," Adam said quietly. The evening was moving on and they'd set up for the night. Amongst all the chaos and the cries for help, they'd lit a fire and blocked the world out. There's nothing more we can do just now. We have to find Jauffre and save the world by moving quickly, we can't stop to close every gate. That sickened Adam to the core. That people would die. That children playing in the streets, children who perhaps had nowhere else to go would be butchered and forgotten, their names lost into oblivion.

"I remember listening to someone as they told me about dangerous feats to stop Ethric Vanhiel and that's important because they insisted I know his name and... and I know that he liked mirrors." Adam laughed a little, staring into the flames. "Mirrors... what a funny thing to know about the most powerful warlord but I suppose every storyteller is allowed to imbue their tale with extra details. I'm telling you this because it's part of my past and if I'm to journey with you, there's a completely different story you need to hear. There was a boy. His second name has been lost between the folds of history but his first was Tyson, a leaving gift from his mother. Now this boy, he lived with his father and he didn't want to be Tyson so he looked for a new name and one day he met Adam Scotch. Adam was a nobody and didn't deserve to have such a fortunate name so Tyson stole his wallet and with it his identity."

(By the way, Billy, don't have Balaes mention Mehrunes Dagon telling him about the gate opening in Kvatch just yet. It'll come in handy later.)

"I suppose we all have ghosts in our pasts," Edgar commented.

The group had set up camp a a few miles away from the city. Once Balaes was okay to walk on his own the four of them set out to Weynon Priory. If they moved quick enough they would be able to get there by tomorrow afternoon. Balaes didn't say much about the vision he received, only the parts with the machine and Mehrunes Dagon. He was so shaken up at the time that he forgot to mention the part about the gate being opened in Kvatch.

"What about you, Edgar? What's your story?" Adrian asked.

Edgar closed his eyes and lay on the grass. "There's no story, I'm just a guy trying to live up to his father's name."

Kai and Enya followed Ivellios and Reon into the forest, passing down game trails through brush, over brooks and logs, and deeper into the shadows. Chaos still erupted from the city far behind them, where demons undoubtedly ran wilder as Kai thought about it.

"How far to the nearest town?" Enya whispered to her brother, still tucked under his protective arm.

He gave her a little squeeze; if anything were to happen to her... He didn't finish that thought. "We should be there by dawn. Hopefully sooner."

(What's say we get things moving? Let's jump forward to the next morning with Adrian's group and get them to Weynon Priory. That way all our characters will be on the same time.

By the way, Kai, Enya, Reon, and Ivellios all have 5 skill points to spend. Use them wisely.)

Morning came, and everyone woke up and packed their things. When they were ready to hit the road, Adrian announced, "If we continue at the pace we were going yesterday we'll be able to reach Weynon Priory in about four hours."

As they walked down The Black Road, the road connecting the town of Chorrol with the capitol city, Adam asked, "So, who is this Jauffre guy anyway?"

"He's the Grandmaster of the Blades," Adrian explained. "The Blades are the king's elite force, bodyguards if you will. The organization was formed during the years of Tiber Septim. It's their responsibility to ensure the royal family's safety. From what the king told Edgar, Jauffre is the only person who knows of Uriel Septim's fourth son."

"But why would the king want his own son's existence to be kept a secret?" Balaes asked.

"Maybe he's the king's bastard child," Edgar suggested. "If that's the case then it's no wonder he wanted it to be a secret."

"It doesn't matter now what his reasons were," Adrian said. "Let's just be glad he kept it a secret in the first place. Otherwise, he'd be dead just like the rest of the royal family. Let's just worry about delivering the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre. Once we know where Uriel Septim's fourth son is we'll have to find and protect him, no matter the cost."

Reon would like fire please.

Reon

"Ah this is nice," Reon said quite pleasantly as they made their way through the forest. The others didn't seem to appreciate the fresh air which made a nice difference to the stuffy interior of the shop and it was good to be out and about with people. Reon didn't have many friends which did give him more time for working but it could get lonely sometimes.

"It's so dark," Enya whispered. The girl was huddled under her brother's arm and Reon through a glance over his shoulder, taking in her nervous expression.

"Don't you worry, I'm sure Ivellios will protect us should anything come sneaking up on us," Reon said. He of course had no intention of getting hurt, he'd stay back and maybe use a spell. That was why he loved magic, much better to be in a position to run should anything go wrong. Not that it would of course but... just in case.

The rest of the walk was uneventful and just as the dawn light began to make her appearance, a scattering of houses came into view. They'd made bad time, stumbling around in the dark at times and almost losing their way on the path but oh good, here they were at last.

*i'm back in guys*

Reon followed Ivellios through the dim forest, he had just realized something that has slipped his mind in the chaos. The boys he was going to teach, if the kingdom stayed normal he would need to notify them of it, and any others in magical need. He quickly pulled out a book from his pack and flipped to the middle page, he then spoke into it.
"dear, soon to apprentices i will be gone fora while so feel free to goof off till then i will tell you when i am back. Also to any in need of magic i am sorry for the inconvenience, if you preorder something please speak your name and the potion will come when you give the money that is" the page wrote what he said neatly then it slowly disappeared and reappeared on a plaque on the inside of the shop door. He closed the door then turned to Enya. "so do you still want me to teach you healing, it is not my strongest skill but i have brought a book on it in my pack that you could use"

Balaes

Weynon Priory was barely an hour away from their position, soon they would be able to deliver the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre. Our part in this tale probably ends there. Though Balaes. Whatever Edgar had said about 'closing shut the jaws of Oblivion', Bal didn't think it could be done.

"Will he be able to fight off Dagon? I mean, even with the Amulet of Kings and the great power it's meant to hold, the Prince of Destruction wields incredible power, and this army is greater than any I've ever even read about." He said.

Adrian could only shrug in answer, "I can't guarantee that it alone will defeat him. But we have to try, we have to do everything we can. Because if we give up, then we're just assuring his victory." He looked directly at Balaes, his eyes burning against his, "We all have to use every talent at our disposal, Balaes, in ensuring that Uriel Septim's surviving son is given the chance to stop this."

Balaes looked straight back at Adrian for a long moment, meeting his gaze without faltering. He'd been denying his father's legacy since he'd left the man behind, and didn't like the thought of getting back in touch with the Darkness, even at this time.

Then he sighed, "Well, Edgar said he was trying to live up to his father's name. I guess I'm the opposite. I'm trying to live down my father's name. I never really liked being the son of Anuron Raan, and I hated his magic even more." He shook his head, "I don't know if you've heard of him, Adrian. Your mother might've, he certainly spoke highly of her. Your father too, but more so your mother. He respects magic more than anything, even if it's not necromancy."
