(Well, it was fun having you participate with us, boltageman. Although, I don't want to kill off Reon. With all the time I spent putting all this information together I want there to be at least one character of each class in the story. kitty15, would you like to take control of Reon?)

--Battle!!--

Fighters: Kai, Enya, Reon, Ivellios

Enemy: x2 Skamps, x1 Frost Atronach

Chance of Successful Escape: 20%

Skamp: An imp-like creature with fur covering its body from the waist down. Has a whip-like tail. No taller than a twelve-year-old child.

Frost Atronach: A giant comprised entirely of ice, standing an impressive 8-foot-7 high.

(Now is as good as any time to explain how battles will work. When you see me make a post like this, it means those I've listed as "fighters" will encounter enemies that they will have to fight. Some battles you can run away, but ultimately it's my say if you're successful or not. As you can see, there's a percentage showing your chance at successfully fleeing. When it's that low it's better just to fight. If you win a battle, all the characters involved gain experience. If a character falls during battle, they can still be revived. If all the characters fall, game over. Ayumi knows how this is done.)

(As you can see, I wrote a brief explanation of the creatures your characters will be fighting. This information is only gained by what your characters can see. If there is a character in the fight that has the scan ability, you will all be given more in-depth explanations of the enemies you fight, such as strengths, weaknesses, and perhaps a brief background statement. If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask me about it.)

The Watch had already blocked off the area, preventing any passerby from getting too close to the fight. A group of guards began to approach the two men fighting. Adrian held up his hand at the. "Don't get any closer, you'll only make matters worse!" The guards listened to Adrian and backed off, but their hands remained on their swords.

Adrian turned back to the fight. He got closer to the two fighters, but not close enough to interfere. "Both of you, stop this! We can't afford to be fighting right now! Just give back the amulet, Adam!"

"After I beat this murderer I'm taking it to King Septim's sons myself. The Amulet of Kings belongs with them, don't you agree, Adrian?" Adam asked.

Adrian gritted his teeth. He had no choice. If he was going to get them to stop fighting, he would have to tell Adam what Edgar had told him. "Adam, Uriel Septim's sons are dead! They were killed by the same people who killed the king, Edgar had no hand in it!"

"You expect me to believe that!?" Adam yelled. "I bet this treacherous swine told you that, didn't he!?"

"Yes, he did!"

"And you believe him? You're naive, Adrian," he told him. "For someone as smart as you, you know so little of how the real world works. Can't you see he's trying to fool you into coming to his side!?"

"Enough talk!" Edgar said in a low husky voice. "This thief isn't going to listen to reason, so there's only one option left." The werewolf rushed forward, his claws going for Adam's neck. Adam moved to one side and stuck his dagger into Edgar's furry arm. The wolfman yelped in pain, but whipped his body around and punched Adam in the stomach, sending him to the ground.

Adam lay on the ground, winded. He looked up at Edgar as he pulled the dagger out of his arm and threw it off to the side. The werewolf let out one final howl before rushing in to deliver the final attack. Adam closed his eyes and braced himself.

Everything went deathly silent. The silence continued for a few moments. After a while, Adam opened his eyes. There, standing between him and the shapeshifter, was Adrian. He was facing Edgar with his arms held out. He had just saved Adam from being killed.

"Edgar, violence will not help us here. Can't you see that?" Adrian asked. The shapeshifter said nothing. "We're dealing with a national crisis here, and you two are trying to tear each other's throats out! How is that going to solve anything!?"

Edgar's shoulders slumped. He changed back into his human form and backed away. "It's not."

Adrian nodded. "Exactly." He turned next to Adam. He held his hand out to him. Adam, still shaken up from the fight, took his hand. Adrian pulled the thief up to his feet. "There will be no more fighting, understand?"

"You're too naive, Adrian," Adam said. "How can you trust what he says when you've never even seen him before? If the king and his sons are dead then how come no one has heard anything about it? How do you know he's not the king's assassin himself?"

"I don't," Adrian told him. "But my father once told me that the truth is not always something you can see with your own eyes. If you won't trust Edgar, will you at least trust me?"

(I know Kai has no weapon. Since I can't have a spear yet, I was planning on having a long sword and a short sword. Can I give the short sword to Kai?)

Ivellios led the team through the forest for about twenty minutes before he heard a sound. He stopped the group just as three figures leaped out in front of him. Cursing his luck he raised his sword ready to fight. Just as it seemed a move was going to be made Kai, the eldest son, drew Ivellios' short sword and stood next to him. Ivellios smiled, but got serious again after a moment, "Hey mage, work up a spell or something and keep the girl back for now. Kai, take the skamps until the spell is finished. I'll handle the big guy." he nodded and they moved.

Ivellios made a quick slash at the creature, but his sword had little effect. It retaliated with a swing of its arm, but Ivellios dodged just in time. Scanning his opponent he looked for what would be the weakest parts. The joints. Leaping he came down as hard as he could on the creatures left elbow. He heard it crack, but it struck back and sent Ivellios back. It then turned its attention to the mage and the girl. He ran as fast as he could and blocked the creatures attack, but couldn't hold it for long, "Hurry up with a spell!"
I will always fight back, no matter what.

Balaes

The watchmen were standing back, clearly uncertain of what they should do in this situation. The king and his sons had been assassinated, shouldn't someone have been giving orders to them?

Bal himself was having something of a moment of confusion. The king was dead, Adrian's mysterious messenger was a werewolf who claimed to have been given the Amulet of Kings for an unknown reason, and now Adrian was telling Adam that he had to trust Edgar. Why is he putting so much faith in him? Especially when he's just shifted? Then again, what his father had said was very true, and how could he judge the truth of a shapeshifter's words when he himself was a dark mage?

He opened his mouth, about to tell Adam that he should agree to Adrian’s terms, that it was the best course of action, when suddenly he cried out.

Nausea swept through his body, bringing him to his knees as a multitude of whispers filled his mind. A brief, burning image of a gate erupting out of the ground appeared to him in the midst of a splitting pain through his head. He vomited, gasping for air.

Everyone had turned to look at him, and, after wiping his mouth on one sleeve and spitting to the side, he stood on wobbly legs, his eyes wide. "Something's gone horribly wrong - there's a gate, it's just come up in a town."

He wondered if any of them had felt it, if they had, it couldn't have been as strongly as he had. Such a massive unveiling of demonic magic would affect dark mages more than anyone, their senses were attuned to it. Normally, a summoning would only leave them feeling momentarily uneasy, but the sheer magnitude of opening an unrestrained portal, no matter from which side, could cause serious physical harm to a dark mage. His only consolation was the knowledge that somewhere, his father would be convulsing on the floor, his power making him even more susceptible. Unless he's behind this...

Question: Do characters who 'fall' in battle lose exp? I'd like that ^^

And woot, another male character for me to toy with. Hmmm. Here's the deal, I'll take him for now but I'd rather like to have a female character later on so later I can either kill him or have three characters?

I have to catch a bus right now but will post for both characters in about two hours.

(What the hell, I'll let you have three. I'd like to point out again to everyone else why I'm only letting Ayumi and kitty have more than one character. boltageman was a perfect example of why I'm only letting people I trust have this privilege. If he had had two characters then that would mean I would have to deal with an extra character myself, or Ayumi if she was up to it. This way, we only have one character to take care of.

As for characters who fall in battle. They don't lose exp., but if the battle ends while their unconscious they don't gain any either.)

Adam

Speech eluded Adam as the dark mage rambled about a gate and the others divided their attention between Balaes and himself. Adam just couldn't think straight. He'd been resigned to die and now that he considered it, for what? A principle, a dead man? Nothing before had held such sway with Adam that he'd been willing to give his life. And well, if he was willing to die for something, that also mean there must be something out there worth living for. It seemed to.

The issue of Adrian saving him was another matter for consideration. Did he trust the boy? Well yes, he didn't have much choice there, but he certainly didn't trust him to not be naive. Afterall, he really didn't understand how the world was supposed to work. If he had, Adam would have been dead.

"What is it?" Adrian asked.

"Evil," Balaes claimed. "A demonic gate has been opened." He straightened up, still shaking a little. Adam made a decision.

"You'll have to excuse us," Adam said to the watch men and the gathering crowd. "We have a kingdom to save." He turned around to discover that Edgar was covering his path of escape. He grinned. "How about we take this discussion elsewhere. Like, in the direction of that demonic gate thing for instance."

Edgar didn't seem to like the idea but Adrian nodded and together the four of them began walking and the crowd dropped away.

"Are you going to give it to me?" Edgar demanded.

"No," Adam said. He held his hand up to halt their protests. "If I'm willing to believe that you did not have any hand in the king's death then the amulet is useless to you unless you are in fact looking for another heir to the throne. If there is another heir, I don't want my part in this to go unrewarded."

"And what might your part be?" Adrian asked.

"You asked me to trust you," Adam said. "Now I ask the same. I'm going to lend a hand, even if it is just a thief's."

Dynamo: Does Reon just have thunder and potion magic at the moment?

Reon

"Just a moment," Reon said cheerfully as he raised his stave and directed it toward the creature. The man looked very silly trying to hold the ice giant back with just his sword but Reon had the right spell for the job. He concentrated, feeling the power build.

"Thunder!" he announced theatrically, throwing his head back to grin at the sky. A bolt of electricity leapt from his stave and struck the creature. It stumbled back, the thunder cruising through its body that had turned into one giant conductor. The man saw his opportunity and struck, the sword darting back and forth.

"Kai!" the girl screeched. Reon turned to her curiously. Kai? Oh right, her brother's name! She was pointing toward the boy who was having a hard time with the two smaller minions. But it was late and Reon was tired and certainly not up to more than one spell which should be saved for an emergency, surely?

(Just the Thunder spell. From what I know of his character, Reon knows a lot about making potions. But, he can't make them instantaneously. I suppose you could call it an uncharted skill, and I'm allowing it because it's part of Reon's background. However, characters of the shapeshifter class can learn a skill called Herbalism, which allows them to make potions right on the spot with whatever they find in the wild. Since Reon can't learn that skill it takes longer for him to make potions.)

Adrian nodded. "Very well, Adam. I suppose it's only fair." He turned next to Balaes and asked, "This gate you're talking about, can you tell us anything about it?"

"All I know for sure is it's connected to some kind of demonic realm," Balaes told him. "I think I remember reading about something like this in one of my father's books once. It happened around the time of Tiber Septim's rule."

"Tiber Septim, you mean the king who transcended to the realm of the Divines and became a God?" Adrian asked.

"Yeah. During his rule over Arcadia, a portal known as an Oblivion Gate opened just outside the city. An army of demons poured out and laid siege to the city. The one responsible for the attack was the demon lord Mehrunes Dagon, also known as the Prince of Destruction."

Edgar froze at the mere mention of the name. "Did you just say the Prince of Destruction?" he asked.

"Yes. He's the demon lord that rules over the realm of Oblivion."

Adrian noticed Edgar's unease. "What's wrong?" he asked.

"Before he died, Uriel Septim told me to stop the Prince of Destruction before his darkness consumes the land, and to close shut the jaws of Oblivion."

Adrian took a moment to take in the information he had received. "Then that must mean Mehrunes Dagon is trying to invade Arcadia once again," he concluded.

Skeptical, Adam asked, "But how would he have known before it even started?"

"My father once told me that the Gods gave King Septim visions," Adrian told him. "He must have seen it coming."

"Whether or not Mehrunes Dagon is starting an invasion is irrelevant right now," Edgar said. "Our main concern right now is taking the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre in Weynon Priory. He's the only one who knows where to find Uriel's last son."

Adrian nodded. "That's right. Only those of the Septim bloodline can wear the Amulet of Kings. I don't know what kind of power it has, but it might be the key to stopping whatever it was that the king foresaw."

"But what about the gate?" Adam asked.

Adrian turned to Balaes and asked, "Do you know where it is?"

"It's too far away for me to pinpoint. All I know is it's somewhere to the west."

"Then there's not much we can do unless we run into it on our way to Jauffre," Adrian said. "We've waisted enough time as it is, we'd best be moving now. Balaes, are you okay to travel? We could use your help."

Balaes considered going with them for a moment. But before he came to his conclusion, he was suddenly overcome with another wave of nausea. It was much stronger than last time. He went to his knees again as his head began to pound. Last time there were just whispers in his head, now it was full-out screaming. He screamed himself as images began to pour into his mind. He saw a dark land of obsidian rock surrounded by seas of magma and a sky of pure red. Strange towers cropped up from the ground leaning on their sides due to crooked foundations. More images began to pop in and out of his head like a chaotic slide show. He saw a massive machine, big enough to topple a building by simply walking into it. It moved on long pincer-like legs, like some kind of giant centipede. Balls of fire were spontaneously spat out of its giant rotating head. The last thing Balaes saw before he passed out from the pain was the machine lumbering toward a massive gate along with a legion of demons.

As the Ice Creature crumbled to pieces, Ivellios heard the girl scream towards her brother. He looked up and saw he was on the defensive. Dashing forward he crashed into one of the two minions. Its partner was shocked for a moment and Kai leaped forward digging the sword into its gut. Ivellios tackled with the creature before he knocked it off of him and kicked it into a tree. It got to its feet, but was smash to the ground again when the girl clobbered it with a log she apparently found.

Sighing he looked around an everyone seemed alright, "Man, I don't know how many for of those we can take like this. We need to either keep moving or find a safe place and move a daylight. What do you think?"

Balaes

His sleep, if it could be called a sleep, was fevered and pained. Continual visions of Oblivion confronted him as he tossed and turned. Repeatedly, the giant mechanical centipede was revealed to him. Some kind of weapon, it must be! Part of his mind - a rational part - spoke to him. You must tell the others! Surely his father would be dead by now, unless he'd somehow prepared for this. No one more powerful than a novice in the ways of dark magic would be able to take this strain, their sensitivity would have overloaded their mind.

Then, the reason he'd been given these visions appeared to him in a flash of light that burned at his mind, seeming to reach for his sanity. Mehrunes Dagon, the Prince of Destruction himself, stood tall before Balaes, smiling with a twisted kind of benevolence upon the young dark mage, or rather, an astral projection of himself.

"Balaes Raan." The demon intoned, "Son of Anuron Raan, Dark Mage, Animator, Necromancer. You are a Dark Mage yourself, are you not, Balaes Raan?"

"Not any more." Bal said through gritted teeth, "I've given it up."

"You used magic recently, though. Its stench is on you." He laughed, "Isn't that ironic? The king's prophecies were empty, you are powerless. I can kill you right now, anyway." He leaned forward, eyes blazing into Bal's mind, "You will go back. You will tell your friends that their best efforts will be for nothing. You have seen one of my great weapons. I have others, unimaginable ones. Some are already in your world." He drew back and laughed, "You lost, Balaes Raan, the very minute my gate opened in Kvatch." Dagon waved a hand at him, and the vision ended.

The white light ebbed away from his mind, and his unconsciousness ended. Silhouettes moved through the world near him, but he could tell little else. He had no idea who was there, or how many of them. He didn't even know what time it was. Nonetheless, he cleared his throat, enunciating as clearly as he could, "Mehrunes Dagon is too powerful. I saw his weapon...and I saw him."

(Just so you guys know for future reference, Mehrunes Dagon has red skin and four arms. Being the ruler of the realm of Oblivion, he is also the largest standing demon lord in existence. To give you an idea of how big he is, the king's palace in the center of the capitol building is the largest standing tower in the world. Mehrunes Dagon is easily half that size, meaning he's even bigger than the machine Balaes saw in his vision. But don't worry, our characters won't be encountering him for a long time. I'm in control of when the big bad boss of the storybook shows up, just like in VG Rumble 1.)
