Fresia-

I could feel I was in shock. None of us had ever had something as hard as what Jessy had just told Esperanza to do. Dogs were mean and vicious, but they were still alive. I could understand why Jessy asked her to do this, because we had discussed it in one of our previous meetings. Dogs were in few supply and they were only with the government. They were bred to guard this chamber where a government tool of some sort was held. If we ever wanted that tool found we would need the guard dog dead. But for a fourteen year old to do it? How could he ask that of Esperanza?

Jessy must really need this done or maybe he just hates Esperanza. I wasn't sure, but either way, I was steaming mad in my seat. I had to bite my tongue to keep from screaming at him. This was the initiation and we all had blank expressions on our faces. I didn't even want to think about what would have to happen if she said no. Even though I didn't want her to say yes it would be far worst if she said no. We understood that we couldn't let anyone out who wasn't a member and knew our secret... I shut my eyes tightly in expectation of the worst.

"I accept the mission."

Everyone filed out of the fort without a word. I knew I would be here at six waiting for Esperanza to come back... If she came back. I shuddered and shook that thought out of my head. I made a mental note of being more optimistic and left the fort.

The next day was dreaded the most: Mating Day. While Esperanza was on her mission we would have to endure being bonded to a person we were likely not to even know. I had dreaded it since the time we were told of the wretched ceremony and now it was here.

All of the 16 year olds filed into the auditorium and the principal was on stage ready to announce who we would spend the rest of our life with. I took a deep breath and took my seat. The whole RSS was in the auditorium and we all chatted away. I was so incredibly nervous as the principal took the mic.

"As you may well know, today is Mating Day. Now I know you are all very excited, but please be respectful as people receive someone into their heart and as two people are bonded forever." Blah, blah, blah. It was so corny our group laughed and giggled as the principal droned on and on about auditorium rules. Dread secretly hung in the air as people laughed their worries away. My stomach twisted into a knot as he said the first couple. Two people in the crowd stood and walked up to the stand. The principal held to hands of the people and placed them together. He then whispered something to them and they walked off the stage together holding hands then into the court yard where they would... talk I guess? This was terrible. I felt like I was going to vomit.

"I'm just as nervous as you are.", Erika whispered to me. I must have been turning green.

"You have no idea."

"Oh, I do.", Lizzy added in.

Just then, the principal called two names into the microphone.

"Spider Card and Leo Radcliff." I stared at my friends as they walked up to the stand. They were a good couple, I thought. Maybe it wouldn't be that bad.

They walked up and Spider blushed furiously as Leo held her hand. They walked off stage together holding hands and I'm pretty sure I saw a smile flash across Leo's face while Spider wasn't looking.

"Jessy James Brown and Eva Morrow." Eva's face drained of all color as she walked up toward the stage. I wasn't really sure if she really liked Jessy or she just hated her Mate.

"Markus Shepherd and Erika Johnson.", Markus seemed to be pleased with his match, but I couldn't tell by Erika's face. She wore a blank expression like she was at a funeral.

"Andrew Doiden and Elizabeth." Lizzy got up from where she sat next to me and pranced toward the stage.

"Oliver Reddings and Andromeda Valence." I looked up at Oliver and Andromeda leaving their seats and going up to the stage. I truly felt sick now because my turn was soon.

"Fresia Rubensi and Taylor Smith." I looked over to where another boy was standing up. I started walking towards the stage as I thought about the name. I had never heard of him and I cursed the Mating List because everyone knew the person they were going to spend the rest of their life with. I stepped onto the stage and my heart accelerated as I looked up at my Mate for the first time. He had long eyelashes and dark skin that brought out his blue eyes. Taylor was tall and muscular. He wasn't handsome, but he wasn't ugly. I could deal with it, I guess, unless he had a nasty attitude. I realized that I had stopped walking towards the principal and had froze, staring at my Mate. I blushed as I hurried toward the principal.

"Take each other's hand in recognition that you are now bonded." He leaned in toward us and whispered. "You are now together forever. Go to the courtyard now and congratulations. You now have your mate for life." It was so stupid I felt like laughing and crying all at once. Forever?

Erika:


Erika kept her face controlled, trying not to show any emotion. Inside, I really was happy, and I really liked Markus. We walked off the stage together, holding hands. We walked towards a fountain, where another couple who where just matched sat. She recognized the guy, Andrew, but not the girl. She shrugged as they walked past them to the old oak outside. He cleared his throat before looking at her. He smiled, a genuine smile.

"Umm...hi." I said. He smiled brighter.

"I was wondering when you were going to say something." he said, leanign back against the tree. I shrugged and sat down on teh ground by him.

"I'm not really a talkative person." He shrugged.

Elizabeth

I blushed. Andrew was cute, but he had a hostile attiude toward me.

This isn't going to work..., I thought, starting to worry. It was my birthday today (wierdly) and it wasn't turning out good, with my mate not really being that nice. I looked at Andrew again, he was just staring at his surroundings. I sat down on the fountain we were standing next to in the courtyard.

Ugh, forever is a long time..., I thought.

Personality: Is shy, doesn't talk much, but knows something about everything. He is extremely smart.

History: Doesn't like or dislike the government. He has no idea the RSS exists.

Talents and Skills (or their job if they are 18 or older): He is great at school and gets all high grades. He has a great memory and loves to read.

Markus:

He looked away from her for a moment, "It's weird, isn't it?"

"What is?"

That we've been paired up. The son of a government agent who still doesn't know whose side he's on, and a member of the RSS. Markus shrugged, "All of this. That people just lie down and let this happen to them. I mean, if we, a bunch of kids, can see through the lies, why can't they?" He let out a brief laugh, "Sorry. Probably not the best way to start things out, right?"

Erika:

I shrugged. But he had a point. "Yeah, but in a weird way, it makes sense." He sat down beside her, still not looking at her. She let out a heavy breath before playing with the bottom of her favorite shirt. She wore it just for today.

"So..." he said, finally looking at her. She raised her eyes to look at him and let out a gasp. She still couldn't believe she was paired up with someone so...so...beautiful. That sounded liek the only word that she could describe him as. Yet it still didn't seem enough.

"What?" he asked, puzzled.

"Nothing...I...it's nothing." she shook her head, trying to get rid of the dazzled feeling. Smiling, she raised her head and looked at him. His stomach growled, not ludly but loud enough that they were both laughing.

"I guess we should head to the cafeteria." he said, standing up. Reaching down he grabbed her hand and pulled her up. They were chest to chest now, so she stepped back a bit, heat rising to her cheeks.

I blushed deeply as I took his hand and walked out of the auditorium. He didn't say anything the whole time. I looked over at him, but of course I had to look up. He was really tall. Taylor never looked down at me, just stared straight ahead. I decided to stop looking at him and did the same. When we were finally out of the auditorium he dropped my hand.

We were in a calm courtyard and we were both standing under an oak tree. It was warm outside and a wind blew that carried new spring petals on it's breath. The courtyard was all very romantic, but it didn't seem to have that effect on Taylor and I. We both looked so grim someone could have said we were walking to our death. I was the first to spaek because I figured Taylor wasn't much of a talker, which I would easily remedy,

"Hi. I'm Fresia Rubensi." I held out my hand for him to shake and he took it. Taylor didn't seem to stare at me straight in the eyes, but stare off into space. It was as if Mating Day had put everyone into a trance.

"I'm Taylor.", he said without emotion. I wanted to break his daze so badly. If I was going to be with him for life, he better get used to that fact.

"So, what do you like to do? Your hobbies, interests?", I felt like I was interviewing him, but he did seem to wake up a bit.

"Um, I like to read. I don't really like sports."

"I like to read, too.", I didn't mention that I'm in love with sports.

"What have you read?", he seemed just a bit more interested now. He had a spark of curiosity within his eye.

"Well, I like old classics, like Harry Potter."

"I love those books too!", good, he was alive inside.

"Are you hungry, Fresia? You wanna head down to the cafe or cafeteria? I know I'm starving.", he exclaimed.

"Sure, let's go."

Markus

He caught her embarrassment as he pulled her to her feet and smiled a little, "Hey, we're going to need to cut down on that now, Erika. You can't just walk around being embarrassed all the time just because you're being forced to live with me." He laughed, "I'm not that bad, am I?"

He was hoping she'd say 'no' as they made their way down to the cafeteria. He'd always enjoyed flirting with a few of the girls in the RSS, but he'd never quite worked up the courage to approach Erika. She'd always seemed so sure of herself, and so far out of his league. Besides, she was adamantly against the government his family served, and he sometimes felt like he shouldn't even try to get involved with a girl like that.

And now, here he was, having it forced upon him. Interesting. He'd always expected to get paired with someone he wouldn't like at all, but then, that was just the luck of the draw, wasn't it? He was stuck with Erika, and he still wasn't sure how he felt about her.

Everyone started heading down to the campus cafe. Our school was like a town within itself and a very large one at that. Each class was held in a separate building and even though we all had our dorms in our own, this gave us a sense of freedom. Even if it was faulty.

The cafe was by the girl's dorms, but we didn't really venture there. I was already getting territorial about my Mate. I smiled at my strange thoughts and was led into the cafe by Taylor.

I glanced around, what a good RSS spy always does. Everyone was eating in the cafe and it was a bit crowded today with 16 year olds. There may have been a lot of normal people, but I always had to make sure to look for the RSS members. It was code.

I looked up at my new Mate. He was incredibly tall compared to my 5'6" height. He must have been about 6'3", or maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. He caught me staring again and asked,

"What would you like to eat?", he smiled down at me. I replied,

"Um, anything. Why don't I get us seats?", I smiled at him and started walking over toward Erika and Markus were eating.

"Hey guys.", I said casually. I walked over to where Erika was and sat down.


*Ugh I posted twice! Sorry if this is confusing. Just wanted to add a few more new things. I like my writing spicy. Plus, I'm bored out of my mind. If this confuses anyone, feel free to ask questions.*

ERika:


Erika laughed as they walked to the cafeteria. "I guess you not that bad. So, what brought you to the," she lowered her voice to a whisper as she leaned into him. "RSS?" He looked at her blankly.

She swallowed. "I mean you don't hav eto tell me, I was just wondering, that way we could get to know each otehr better. Now that we're stuck together and all." She looked athim, a smile spreading across her face. Innocent.

Spider Card

I looked at him.

"What a surprise." I laughed.

He turned to look at me, his face twisted in different emotions.

"What?" I smiled uting my hands on my hips.

"We're not going to argee on anything are we?" Leo said.

I shook my head. "It isn't going to be easy."

"so...." She smiled

"So what now" He said wondering what to do next.
