"Hi," Dragon repeated blankly, then let out a nervous laugh. He was starting to feel out of place, "I was just uhh wondering if you knew where my tent was?"
The girl's eyes were starting to mezmerise him, in a strange unfamiliar way that reminded him of flames. Blue flames. He glanced down, distracting himself.
Rusty was still asleep? Not surprising, but it was a relief nonetheless. If he had been up and looking for me at this hour, I'd really have had something to worry about. The longer he slept, the better. Not that sleep would put him in a better mood, it would just show that either he hadn't noticed or hadn't cared in the first place.
On a brighter note, the first show wasn't until five, and everything was already set up, more or less. There'd be a lot less work. And considering the time Rusty was likely to get up, if all went well, that meant more time to spend with Adeline.
I looked over at her for a moment, unsure of exactly what to say. It wasn't like there was a whole lot to do without trying to escape from the circus on the whole, but maybe just being together would be enough for her. I smiled, "Wanna go for a walk?"

I stood there a minute, shocked. He'd asked me to walk with him. I smiled back and nodded.
"So how's your act?" He asked, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
"Good, I just hope I don't fall." I laughed even though it could happen. "I just hate the stupid fluffy outfits and make-up I have to wear." Chase gave a nervous laugh. he hated clowns. I think Rusty made me wear the make-up just to keep him away during the show.

"I'm sure I would know where a new tent was." My arm was still bleeding. "My name is Rogue, but that's just the stage name." I smiled, without real humor.
"What do you do in the circus?"
"I'm the human rag doll, you know rip me open and pearce me shut." I said, showing him the stitches of my arm. "I'll show you to you're tent." I smiled.

He grinned, "So..." he began, a little nervously as he tried not to recall any time he'd seen her in costume, "If you hate all that, why do you let Rusty make you wear it? You know you could probably negotiate something like that." It was really more wishful thinking on his part. The chances of that were almost certainly zero. Even so, he would've loved to watch her act.

I sighed and went back to my tent. I lifted the lid and sat on the bed, trying to see my own future. Once again, I only saw dark gray smoke and heard crashes and bangings.
"No! Stop! Leave us alone!" a woman yelled through the smoke.
There was maniacal laughter and a short pause where somewhere, a little baby began to wail.
"This is the price you pay! Give in and do as you're told you foolish girl!" an undisguisedly delighted voice boomed.
The woman began to protest and the horrid sound of the man slapping her in the face and her falling to the floor echoed in my head. The baby's wails blended with the woman's.
There was the unmistakable sound of the man leaving with the child and the woman's wails grew louder and higher.
Finally, they faded and I awoke on my bed, my forehead sweat drenched and Rogue putting a cold cloth on my forhead and looking at me worriedly.
"You were dreaming," she whispered. "It sounded horrible. You kept sobbing and screaming stuff about hating everything and threatening people's lives."
I shook my head a bit and tried to rise out of bed but bright spots appeared before my eyes and Rogue gently pushed me down.
"I-I was trying to see my own future again," I murmured to her. "I keep seeing the same thing. Everything's smoky and cloudy and woman is screaming for someone to have mercy on her as the person is destroying her house, the man says no and slaps her as she protestes, snatches the baby and leaves her there to die. I don't even know if this really is part of my future or not."
"Just sleep now, okay?" Rogue said, pulling the thin blanket over me. "If you need anything just call me."
I nodded as I felt my eyes droop and watched her leave the tent and sit just outside.

I smiled at Chase. "Maybe. I'd have to ask him when he was having a good time though." I said. The grass crunched under our feet as we walked towards the big tent where the acts took place. "Sometimes i find myself thinking about life outside the circus. It seems exciting." I said doing a little twirl of excitement.
Chase chuckled and said, "Yeah, me too. I've actually tried leaving before." I started at him with wide eyes.
"Really? I could never do that. I'd get to paranoid." I glanced over at him. He was such a rebel and he was outgoing. It made me smile. He was wonderful.

Cowboy pulled away from Jewel. He put his head on her shoulder and suppressed his need to scream in pain. Everything was blurry,he couldn't stand, and things kept coming in and out. He coughed and dust blew, he rubbed his eyes and realised he was on the ground. Though he wasn't sure how he got there; Jewel was still sitting on the piano bench, her face splashed with shock.
"Cowboy? Are you okay?" But he wasn't looking at Jewel anymore, he was looking at the gypsie standing in front of him. The gypsie he was pretty sure only he could see.
"Christian, don't be so stupid. You are going to ruin everything you have worked so hard at. All for some silly girl."
"Kya, I love her." He said pleading and walking on his hands and knees towards his adopted mother.
"Which is why you must leave her. You risk everything. If you go back to..to what you were." She paused and closed her eyes trying not to remember, "Christian you will kill her, you know that. You can't leave the circus, you know that! Remember why you came here?"
"Yes." She leaned down and stroked his hair, he was so pathetic, "Just let me get her somewhere safe, let me help her. Then I'll come back."
"No you won't. You have to leave Christian."
"I don't deserve to leave, she does."
"If you take her with you, you know what will happen. Do you want that to happen again?" She screamed this and pressed her hand to his head sending images flashing through his mind. Images of the first girl he loved, and killed.
"Stop!" he screamed as he watched himself kill her, over and over. Then the image changed. He was standing with Jewel, in the rain and they were laughing. Then he was stabbing her, killing her, "God no!" he was screaming.
"This is what will happen Christian, unless you listen to me!" he nodded, "You have to leave! You have to keep your soul, it's the only thing that will save her life, and many others." Faces were flashing through his head, some were the faces of the children at the circus, some where faces he didn't know, "You will kill all these people. Do you want to do that?" He shook his head, "Then go." and she was gone.
He wiped the sweat from his forhead and looked over at Jewel.
"What just happened?" Jewel asked getting down from the piano bench and walking towards him.
"Don't come near me!" He stood and retreated backwards.
"Cowboy." She said reaching towards him, he couldn't even look at her. He was such a monster.
"I'm sorry Jewel, I have to go." How the tables had turned in less than 24 hours. Last night he had been pulling her back to the Circus, then they planned to leave together; and now he was leaving her. It was killing him.
All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage, and I promise you something great will come of it.
I awoke about a half hour later to an upset stomach. I ran behind the tent and lost my dinner, there, feeling slightly better to be rid of the nausea. I went to go find Rogue.

"Um..what do you do? Like, what is your act?" She asked.

I stopped as I watched Dent and a new girl hit it off. Then the new girl grabbed Dent's hand. Tears welled up in my eyes and I blinked them back frustratedly.
