I grinned momentarily. "I understand. I am feared, after all."

We laughed lightly as we continued to dance.

Then I felt it. A strange, eerie, menacing feeling.

What's going on?

I pretended like I hadn't noticed a thing.

I felt a chill on the air. I looked around cautiously and stepped onto the street. The feeling intensified as I walked away from the club. I saw three dark robbed figures approaching from the shadows across the street. I looked closer and nearly screamed. the Inner circle had sent regulators here. I faded back into the shadows making tracks for the club. I shifted into a house cat and ran past the gaurds. Once inside I shifted back looking for Stanton and Serena. I saw them in a corner hugging. I sent a mental shout and Stantom looked up at me with an annoyed expression. I scowled at himand screamed for him to leave for regulators were on the street. His expression changed to horror and he grabbed Serena and disappeared into smoke.

After a good night of dancing and watching over Sacuna's every move, the Daughters had headed out for the night, maybe to grab something to eat or go home, depending on how tired they were. They all knew Serena would stay behind with Stanton, and would eventually catch up. Jimena sighed. At least he would keep her safe.

Stepping out onto the street, the girls stopped suddenly.

"Do you feel that?" Catty asked. The air was sending off small sparks of static electricity.

"Regulators." Vanessa cried, terrified.Vanessa had once had a bad encounter with Regulators, being fooled almost into betraying the Daughters.

"Run! We can't fight them right now!" Jimena yelled, grabbing Vanessa, who was shocked still. They ran across the street and jumped into Jimena's car, speeding off.

I knew I had to do something so I ran up to the dj and asked for the song titled stomp and grind which everyone would dance to.As soon as the song started I calmly went over to the stage and jumped up knowing the regulators were watching my every move.I began to stomp and grind as the music went louder I danced and others joined me. I was a mean shila as they watched I felt Stanton go further away. I kept dancing just to be sure he was safe. I knew it was going to be a long night.

I bit my lip worridly. what was going on? I looked at staton. "What's going on?" I demanded. I just wanted to be alone with him, but it seemed that everyone was out to ruin my fantastic relationship. I grabbed Stanton's hand tight. "Please tell me what's going on." I begged, my eyes pleading.

I pulled her close to my side. "Regulators. We gotta go." I then disappeared, with her still in my arms, into the shadows. We flew through the crowd, along the streets, away from the Regulators, and into an abandoned building. No one would find us there.

I let go of the shadows and just stood there, listening for anything unusual as Serena clung to me.

I finally sighed. "There's nothing. We're safe."

I sat down. This was horrible. "So-sorry." I stuttered. I was ruining his life. without me, he wouldn't have any complicated issues. I sighed and looked down at my now torn skirt. This wasn't working. I was just some stupid burden. I refused to look at him. If I did, I'd start crying. I whipe at my eyes, trying to prevent, at least for the moment, the tears from falling.

I sat down next to her, taking her into my arms as she fought the tears. I softly hushed her as she rested her head against my chest.

"There's nothing to be sorry about," I told her. "I love you more than anything, Serena, and I want nothing more than to be with you. Don't you ever doubt that."

I hiccuped as the tears started to fall. I was such an idiot. Why was I even letting myself do this? If I cared for him at all, i'd let him fall in love with a shadow. Maybe that one that had a crush on him. My friends were right...but not for the reasons they gave. Staton was amazing...but...I wasn't helping. Then I thought of my brother. He was going to flip. I sighed and wiped all the tears away, my mascara running. I laughed at myself. "I'm so stupid sometimes." I grinned.

I stroked her cheek tenderly, staring directly into her eyes. God, it was hard not to focus on her delicate mouth, curved into a half smile and beckoning to me.

Keep your cool. Stay in control, Stanton, I told myself as I spoke to her. "That's why I love you, silly."

I watched her, serious now. "And us being together is not wrong or a bad thing. It's just unheard of. But you know what? I don't care what people think; I don't give a damn about your brother's feelings about me. All I know is that there is no one else in this world for me...not even Sacuna. Tell you the truth, the girl frightens me sometimes."

We laughed at that. The girl was an outrageous dancer and somehow seemed to know where I was and when at all times, because she would show up only a few minutes later. Thank God she couldn't find us this time.

"Here's a tip: don't let others influence you. Make your own choices based on your own thoughts. All right?"

Even as I said it, I noticed something: it was really, really hard to not kiss her right then and there. I forced myself to breathe and stay calm.

I smiled up at him. "Alright. I love you s much." I said seriously.

I looked at him. He seemed distracted by something. then I grinned as I read his mind. "Not something you want is there?" I teased, still grinning.

I smirked at her. So, she was going to play like that? I growled playfully as I picked her up and set her back down, on her back, so that I was kneeling over her. I was not completely on top, but the stance still got my blood racing. Her squeal of excitement made me tremble.

"Don't tempt me, sweetheart," I snarled playfully, huskily. Then I leaned in to whisper in her ear. "If we start, I doubt I'll be able to stop."

I pulled back so I could see the intensity of her blush.

A blush turned both my cheeks red. He smiled and it made me blush more. "This isn't fair." I complained pouting slightly, holding back a giggle.

He laughed and I playfully pushed him off of me only to pull him back down next to me and kiss him while we sit there. suddenly my phone went off. I growled and saw it was my brother.

I looked hopelessly at Staton. "hey?"

"Where are you?!"

"Busy. Do you need something?"

"Mom and dad are going to be home soon. I'm not lying for you." he hung up.

I growled. "I hate my brother sometimes."

I groaned, letting my forehead rest against hers. "Can I kill him?"

She knew it was a mild joke made out of annoyance, and giggled. "We'll see. Now, what do we do?"

I wanted to keep kissing her, to hold her, to love her like she deserved, but it couldn't be helped. If her parents were on the way home, I had to get her home.

But not until after I was done with her. "I'll get you home." I kissed her again, more passionately than ever.

I sighed. I was in heaven. I didn't want to leave. I wanted to stay here with Staton. But I knew I'd be beyond grounded if I didn't get home.

"Staton...I...I have to leave before they get home. Bro's still made at you...he won't cover for me this time. I really need to get home." I looked down. why did everyone have to ruin this. I groaned. "Why can't people just leave us alone?!"
