Well, it appears the site is back up now! I'll try to explain what happened:

Whenever you access any website, the connection goes through several servers. For example, you go from your computer, then to your local service provider, then a data server center, then to the site's service provider, and then to the site's server. For some like Yahoo, this only involves seven or so steps. For smaller sites, like YWS, it involves around 20.

If any of the servers in the chain are down, then you cannot access the site. This is what happened this time. The YWS server was working just fine, but there was no way for you to get to it because something in the chain was broken.

Whenever that happens, the only thing anyone can do is simply to wait. Since it doesn't involve YWS, I can't do anything either.

So fortunately, everything is running again now!

And if you want to try out what I described above in Windows, type 'cmd' in run. This will take you to the MSDOS command prompt. Just type in:

tracert www.domain.com

And it'll show you the steps.

20 or so steps? Any chances you are running an Apache server based off your own computer?

It takes 21 on mine! It takes me 9 just to get to London.

I thought my internet was messing up. I could get on other sites, but not YWS. I was soo sad. I'm glad it's back up. :).

I tried three computers yesterday to make sure that it wasn't my internet messing up.

*hugs YWS*

It's amazing how much I miss the site in 12 hours. What will I do if I go on holiday?

Ohhh okay. I was in Austin and using my phone to keep up with the site while I was gone, and couldn't figure why everything but YWS was working. There was a lot of scowling at my phone involved... hehe

Glad everything's working again. :D

YWS is far too big and active for a home run server to manage. My guess is Nate pays for a dedicated server.

Well, 30 steps for me! Actually, it stopped at something like 20 but then all the rest were 'request timed out' and stuff.

At least we had the backup site!
