Locked away in the towers of safety
Shackled to protection’s prison
As you watch your world crumble to ashes
They gag you but refuse to guard your eyes
You observe the effects of destructive choices
And do not allow you to unbind their own blindfolds
They chain you in the cells they call 'sanctuary'
Bind you to the pole named 'security'
And force you to watch the death and defeat
Of a world collapsing under its own weight
When you could have lifted your share of the load
They say all is well and call your hopelessness 'depression'
While hiding you from the horrors of the world
Your urge to help, they call 'shock'
As they wipe your frustrated tears
But these are not tears of horror
Of a heart appalled
No, they are tears of misery
Of a mind tortured
By the agony of a sheltered life
(Suggestions and criticism, please!)
