I Hate American Idol

[pre] [/pre]I hate American Idol. The festering stinkpot that has found its way into American culture makes me sick. We are lead to believe that this is an actual competition between real kids who just want a chance to make it big. We aren't told however that there are always screamers planted in the audience, and a Fox hired professional in the lineup. The show is nothing more than a dying network's last gasp of air before it goes under. While it may seem as though they've managed to grab on to a life preserver, for the time being, its at the cost of the already tainted image of American media, and tarnishes the 'good' image of pop culture in the United States.

[pre] [/pre]American Idol, when it began, was a good idea. They round up these non professional kids with talent, have them sing, and the best one wins a record deal. Unfortunately after the first 6 episodes, American Idol became nothing more than American Trash. Putting itself on par with programs like Jerry Springer, and tabloid journalism.

[pre] [/pre]CNN, several days ago, spent long hours on the topics of Micheal Jackson, Precous Doe, and the office building shooting in Huston. Fox news, and News at Nine, both Fox programs, ran a story about American Idol and Paula Abdule. ABC, questing for ratings dropped one lower, and made Paula Abdule center of attention. Proving, in my mind at least, that these 'news' prgrams are better suited to the names Faux News and American Brainless Corp.

I watched the first season. The only winner that I think deserved to win and was actually good was Kelly Clarkson. I stopped watching the show after the first season. Because it has just grown really boring because it seems like every person does not have a unique voice. I think the voting is rigged. I hate the show but my grandparents and mother watch the show religously.

You do realise it was just a rubbish rip off of the original Pop Idol (british), which was pretty bad in the first place.

Yeah. It is a terrible rip off of an already terrible show.

We discussed American Idol from a performance studies standpoint in my performance studies class. My professor called it the festering zit on the bulbous nose of American pop culture. I couldn't agree more. I'll post a rant after lunch...
Sing lustily and with a good courage. Beware of singing as if you were half dead, or half asleep; but lift up your voice with strength.

So who's the hired professional? Personally, I don't care it the voting is rigged or anything when I enjoy the music, but it seems like everyone is just getting worse this year. Meh.

I've never watched the American one, the British one is bad enough. I can't stand Simon Cowell, what the hell gives him the right to be so cruel? Okay some of those people are bad but they still had the guts to stand in front of people and sing. I don't see him embarrasing himself. *******

The planted professionals are the ones that make the most ruccas, they never go all the way, but they arent hard to spot.

Simon actually doesn't bother me. He is actually just doing his job. Informing aspiring stars of what the real world is like. There is no room to be nice, he's giving them insight into the real world of pop culture. Simon is OK.

The voting isn't rigged, but they do know in advance who will win. They give the msot publicity to their pick, and so that is the most recognizeable name, and so people vote for him. This year, a boy will win. Next year, it will be a woman. the year after, a boy again.

American Idol is responsible for the numbing of American journalism. Well, not just American Idol, celebrity in general. The world is full of real interesting news, but no, i have to hear what celebrities are wearing when i watch CNN. I always thought that the government would be responsible for the siezure via ignorace of the news media, but i was wrong, it's going to be us.

Is it too much to ask for some intelligence in the media? is it really that much?

What's worse ... now there's an Australian Idol an we get both!!! No!!! The horror!!! We're all doomed to melt in front of the TV!!! It's just anouther example of how Australian TV must continually lean on American TV *shudders*. You know, I can't think of one good Australia show on channel 10. Not one. (Neighbours doesn't count, it's junk and not even original junk)

I mean, it's bad enough our Prime Minister sucks up to George Bush ... the whole thing is just so ... embarrassing. What must all the other countries think of us??!!

simon cowell is the only reason that show is semi bearable. watching him being a total asshole is hilarious. these peple might have the guts to stand up in front of people and sing but if they think it's going to be easy, then they're delusional. he's a breath of fresh air. or was, about 4 seasons ago.

on another note, neighbours is not junk! neighbours is after-school-tv-and-i-am-busy-not-doing-homework tv at it's finest...

I couldn't agree more! I actually think American Idol is worse than ours though...and that's saying something. I tried to watch it once to see what all the fuss was about but... :? I still don't get it.

Aniar, unfortunately there are wayyy more than four countries doing it. Singapore, France, Denmark, Japan. When I stopped at Singapore airport Singapore Idol was on the tvs. Lol.
And why is it called "Idol?" We're actually meant to IDOLISE these people? Give me a break.
