It is a LotR spinoff, well almost. Basically, you are either a Gondor or Rohan soldier/citizen. It follows the events of LotR, Helm's Deep and that. In Gonder, there would be Osigiliath and that. In Rohan, you would have Helm's Deep etc. You cannot be any of the people mentioned in the book or film, or interact with them.
That is not the main storyline though. The idea, is that you can just go nuts in the cities and battles or whatever. Have a load of kids, get married, fall in love, kill some people. I will let you know when we have reached a certain point. IE, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf arrive and they go to Helm's Deep etc. Other than that, go mad! We will assume that everyone in Gondor will know each other, as will all those in Rohan. You get the idea.
Gondorians live in Minas Tirith, but can become a ranger in Ithilian, go to Osigiliath etc
Rohirrim live in Edoras, but can become rider scouts.
