Melkin looked briefly behind him, sensing the figure behind him. Kelito looked to him apprehensively, eager to remove herself from the floor.
"Come on over Kelito." the alpha called softly. "There is no need to follow formalities right now. everyone is still sleeping, even the pups."
She gingerly lifted herself up and stepped over to Melkin, setting herself down beside the large wolf. "Watching or not, they are still rules that need to be followed."
Melkin nodded his muzzle slowly, looking again over the the wolf beside him. "Something troubles you. What is it?"
Kelito's tail shot up slightly. She blinked in surprise, then sighed. "You know what it is. Our pack is dissipating. More and more disappear. Melkin, what is happening?"
The alpha scraped at the ground nervously with his paw. His eyes slowly scanned over the remainders of his pack. Sadness, fear, every kind of dark emotion seemed to emanate from his eyes as he scanned over the thinning amounts of wolves. "It's inevitable, almost. More and more leave our pack for the others. A chase after the occasional hare just isn't bringing our senses to its full extent. pups, olders, and even some of the middle aged want that back."
The tips of the moon began to disintegrate from view as the sun began to crawl over the horizon. Melkin let out a large breath. "Another day to start."
He howled, alerting everyone of the time.
