"Who says I'm alone?" he said as some wolves entered her living room.
"Caiden," Colt whispered in her ear, "brace yourself."
Caiden expected werewolves to lunge at her, not Colt grabbing her around the waist and dragging her out of the door at a speed that left her dizzy, before she could recover he scooped her up and ran to the still running truck.
Colt yanked the door open and nearly tossed Caiden in, being as careful as possible. He slammed her door shut and made a dash for his own. The werewolves had recovered and were running out. One jumped at him and he spun around ramming his fist into it's head. He yanked his door open and jumped in putting it into drive and shoving the gas peddle to the floor. It jumped forward and sped out of the drive way.
Caiden gripped the handle on the door and the arm rest. Scared witless. She drew her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them trying to stop the trembeling.
"Big bad vampire hunter my ass," she scolded herself.
Colt slowed the truck down a little and looked over at her.
"Vampires and werewolves are two tottally different things. Vampires aren't as scary cause they look human. Those guys," He shivered, "They're just scary." He chuckled, "Now if it is my driving that is scaring you I'm sorry, I'll slow down." He pulled the truck over and pulled her close to comfort her. "There is a difference of being prepared and surprised."
Caiden snuggled closer to him still curled up in her little protective ball fighting off the urge to cry. "But that's my job, to be prepaired if attacked."
"Attacked by vampires, not werewolves." He gently stroked her hair calming her down. "Speaking of vampires, I think we're going to need some help with this."
Colt looked out the window, he could see several people headed their way, it was the werewolves.
"We better get moving, we'll stop by and leave a message for the others to meet me at my place before we go back to my apartment. The werewolves wont go there because I have set up several different things to ward them off." He said driving off again. They stopped at what looked like an old abandoned house. He honked the horn once quickly and then two long ones, and then another short. Six vampires walked out of the house and waved then walked back in. Two trucks pulled out from behind the house and he turned around and drove towards his house.
Caiden repressed a laugh, "a secret society of vamps?" she asked intrigued.
"Yeah, but don't you go hunting here," he said with a light but warning glare, "they'd make you death as slow as possible, making sure they get every last drop."
She shivered involentarially. "Noted. So am I supposed to feel safe with them now?"
"They wont hurt you unless you are a threat to them. Plus, I wont let them." He smiled, at her. "They aren't stupid enough to hurt anyone I'm close to." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder again as they got onto the main road.
They pulled up to his apartment complex and let her slid out his door as the other two veichles stopped next to his. The others stepped out and walked over.
"Whats up?" One of the asked looking at Caiden then Colt.
"Werewolves, their after me and a few of my friends, there are more then we can handle. Mind helping?" He asked pulling Caiden close.
"We're up for it." Another, Brandon, said. "How many humans are with your group?"
"Two," Colt said looking at him hard to make sure he knew it was hands off. "Then another vampire and a wizard."
"Alright, lets get up stairs then." Jake, the first one, said.
Colt saw Brent, one of the guys that probably knew she was a hunter give him a concerned look. Brent had helped him get used to being a vampire and was at least 300 years old. He just smiled and they kept going. He didn't want any of the others to get any ideas about Caiden, weather for a meal or anything else. He opened the door and let Caiden in and the others then walked in. Brent walked over and motioned for the balcony. He followed Brent onto the balcony and leaned on the railing, the door staying cracked.
"She's a hunter." Brent said going straight to the point.
"I know." He replied,
"Colt, your still young, they can't be trusted." Brent warned,
"She can, she has her reasons for hunting. She wont hurt me or any of my friends unless she has reason to. And trust me if any of them give her reason to she'll have to beat me to them." He said turning to face Brent.
"I think you made that clear already, but you don't know hunters like I do." Brent replied,
"And you don't know Caiden like I do." Colt said turning back to the railing.
"You're right you don't," Caiden said stepping out to join them. "I've lost too many people in my life to hate, I do not hate vampires, I simply have a hard time trusting them. But I trust Colt, and I'd die before I did anything to hurt him."
Colt faced Caiden and smiled, he looked at Brent who had a scowl on his face.
"A hunter and an evesdropper, just what we need." He muttered walking into the other room. Trent chuckled and leaned on the railing again. Caiden stepped next to him and leaned against his shoulder.
