Sanon clenched his teeth. "Freaks!" He said again, and he pulled a small, hidden gun from the holster that was strapped around his calf.

Sanon swore and reloaded, running after the Others. He shot twice more, but he missed. And the gun was too small to handle anything more than three shots. With another curse, He ran to the Police Station to give descriptions, though he doubted he would see them in town again.
But what had they said about underground?

Nellie had to stop herself from falling. She switched to a bobcat and kept running till everyone stopped.
"What the hell was that!?" Nellie shouted.
"I'm guessing like a guy...with a gun." Rei said.
"I'm serious! People never shoot at Others!" Kersko snorted.
"You're joking right? You've never seen violence?" He asked.
"Not like that! Just on TV and my step-dad."
"Well you better get used to it." She sat on the ground and leaned against the wall.
"What did I get myself into?" She said to herself.
"A war."
"After it happened I thought that I'd just try to live as normally as possible and bury it, but things like that don't stay buried. I didn't think it would, but it taints your whole life."
"My desires were bestial, obviously." -Jeffery Dahmer.
"A war," Nellie yelled, "I don't want to be in a war."
"Well," Kersko began, "hate to tell you, but just being born a Herskon will get you in this war."
"Why?"
"Just being a Herskon, people are jealous of Herskons. They want our abilities. They'll kill us to found out how we work. Some humans think we are demons, they'll kill us thinking they're purifing the world."

I rolled my eyes, once more in humaniod form. "Guys, look. There are armies down there, and I have contacts. They'll keep us safe." Looking around the group, frustration started to get the better of me. "Herksons they may be, but do you think they'll look on any kind of outsiders with kindess? Or even mercy? If we go down there, at least we will be out of the way when they revolt against the humans."
Kerkso nodded. "We should get as many friends as possible. We'll need them."
Nellie trembled. "But... what if I just ran away?"
"Do you want to live alone in fear? If so, you just find away out of the city." I snapped, my temper rising.
"And anyway, my family may not be the most evident, but it is still large and has influence. Even if we prefer to keep to the shadows." I fingered my necklace, wondering just how much help my family would be.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
"Some people in my Family will help," I said, "I know at least they'll take care of me."
"Wait," Shara said, "I think I remember someone of the Narfa Family in the underground. Old Bersko, I think he's a Narfa. We can take Nellie to him. We at least could try this."

Sanon stepped into the police station and walked up to Officer Rendon.
The cop raised an eyebrow. "I thought you went home, kid," she said.
"I was," Sanon replied. "Until I was viciously attacked by some Others."
"Really?" she said cynically. "And, let me guess, you did nothing, am I right?"
Sanon ground his teeth. "I'm serious. I was walking down the street, on my way home, when some wolf jumped on me and took my gun." he twirled the small gun that had been on his calf. "If I hadn't had this other one to scare him off, I wouldn't be here now."
"Attacked you in the middle of the street?" she shook her head. "That doesn't sound like their style. And you don't look injured."
"I pulled out my gun before he could do any serious damage, so beside a few bruises, I'm okay."
Rendon sighed. "San, you don't grab your small gun first. It's only for emergency."
"I told you, he took my gun."
Rendon rubbed her eyes. "You're way too young to be on the night watch. Whoever put you there was drunk."
"I'm not too young," Sanon protested. "I'm nineteen!"
The officer snorted. "Tell me fourteen, and I might believe you."
Sanon scowled. "Well, my point is, an Other is still free out there to jump another innocent civillian. Aren't police officers supposed to get rid of threats like that?"
"Kid," Rendon sighed. "We need more proof on this guy than what you have before we do anything drastic."
"What more will it take to get your attention," Sanon demanded. "A few dead citizens? I was lucky, is all. Any other person would've been killed."
"Not enough evidence to move against him," she replied firmly. "Now, it's too late for someone your age. Go home, get some sleep, play some video games, forget about it. We'll see what we can do about it, but we don't have enough proof to act legally."
Sanon scowled and strode out of the station, slamming the door behind him. If no one would take him seriously, then he would have to track them down himself.

I was growing impatient. "Look, Nellie, either come with us quietly or I'll carry you." I was damned if I was going to leave an orphaned kid on the street.
Nellie looked panicked. "But... why?"
"Because you're one of us, whether you like it or not."
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
"Well I don't! I hate it. No one will talk to me at school. Now you damn people are coming up to me and trying to get me killed! I'm thirteen! Let me live!" She ran like hell down the alley and into the street and saw them right beind her. She cursed herself as felt herself trip. Her damn legs were no help.
"Oh shit!"
She went into the gravel for the third time this night. She saw them hover over her, but she had hit her head and passed out.

Rei rolled her eyes. "Great." she muttered.
Kersko glared at her but she ignored him.
"What now?" the basilisk asked. She glanced behind her and saw a red and blue light coming slowly toward them.
"I guess you're going to have to take her up on your offer." Rei said, looking at the basilisk. She looked at Rei questioningly for a moment, then got what she was talking about. She picked up the girl and they slipped into a dark alleyway as the cop passed.

I stared down at the young girl. "Well," I said, "Shall we pick her up and go?"
Kersko shrugged. "She seemed determined to not come. Are you sure we shouldn't leave her?"
I sighed impatiently. "With her current guardians? I think not. she won't last two minutes with them when the war comes. Hell, they'd probably kill her themselves!"
Kersko looked down at the girl. "She's rather confused... isn't she?"
I nodded. "All the more reason to take her with us!"
Maybe if we don't find her family my aunt will take her in... she's the motherly figure of our family...
