"Yeah," Dave replied, "I'm not letting you out of my sight again." Keri smiled at him weakly and together we headed towards the back of the warehouse. I walked a step behind the two, wondering why the girl.... Keri had invited me. Well that's what I was thinking on the surface. Underneath that shallow layer, my mind was trying to re-build, trying to preserve my memories of Louis and Mike and at the same time, trying to forget them, to push them from my mind.
"There's a door," Dave noted, indicating a shabby, wooden door with peeling, grey paint.
"Where do you think it leads?" Keri wondered. She took a step close but Dave beat her to it and edged the door open an inch to peer around. Then he pushed it the rest of the way and revealed a small office. A single desk was placed against the far wall, boxed in by several tall, grey filing cabinets and a small, waste paper basket.
"Do you think that computer works?" I wondered.
"What use would that be?" Dave asked.
"We could tell the world where we are. Surely it's a crime for the government to keep us in here!" I exclaimed enthusiastically. Suddenly there was hope; I had a mission.
