Keira looked around, the creatures were talking among themselves, oblivious to her. She was tempted to slip out, but she had nowhere to go, nowhere to run, perhaps this was better. She thought back to when she arrived here, and realised that she had been out of breath, as though she had been running. A since of fear swept over her, what had she been running from? She looked back at those surrounding her, perhaps they knew.

"What was I running from when you found me?"

The werewolf looked at her curiously, "I thought you couldn't remember."

"I couldn't. I can't. But I remember being out of breath. Of being scared. Why was I?"

The creatures exchanged glances, and suddenly she was touched with the a sense of fear that went beyond the unknown. These creatures knew what it was, and they didn't seem happy about it.

Eyrc shrugged. "I'm not sure. It's something...new. It smells dangerous."
He looked around at the others. "Anyone got a clue?"

"None at all."

"Ishtar, you're really impulsive today aren't you?"

"As always love."

Keira looked expectantly at the vampires, wondering why they talked to each other in such a familiar way. They were close, that was for sure, but how close. 'My love.' That's what had been said. But vampires? Lovers? Could they even feel? They had no remorse for killing people, so how could they have the capasity to love?

Keira shied away from them, and looked back towards the man that stood near her. Those canine teeth had an interesting quality to them, almost attractive, but the fact that he was different made her mind wonder if anything could happen, if he could feel, or if he was as strange as the strange creatures standing around him.

Those thoughts were soon overidden by the fact that she had no idea how she got here. Was what they were saying true? Or were they the ones that had been after her in the first place? She couldn't decide who she should trust.

A shiver ran up her spine, and she realised that she was cold, she wrapped her arms around her as her body started to shake from the exhaustion that suddenly swept over her. The wolf-man's face suddenly turned sympathetic and he looked caringly at her.

"You're cold aren't you?" he turned to the vampires, "couldn't you guys even give her some essentials when you brought her up here?"

"They're in the bathroom," Ishtar said and walked in there. "Blankets, sheets, a brand new toothbrush, the mortal stuff." For a moment Ishtar took on a mothering quality, Keira reminded her of her daughter. Ishtar had had a child with Adrian before they had met their never ending life. But they were still not married, and wouldn't be. The thought that they could one day leave each other kept them close.

Eryc looked at the vampire, confused. She seemed like a broody mother. He had never seen vampires act this way.
He gave his head a shake, clearing his thoughts. Walking past the vampire he grabbed a blanket and handed it to the girl.

Keira took the blanket and wrapped it around her, she had heard the motherly tones in the vampires voice, but where had it come from? She felt a sudden feeling of recognision and trust towards the vampire, the voice reminded her of something. A figure in the past. Some one comforting from the past she couldn't remember, who? Keira smiled at the vampire and realised that they weren't all bad, these two could be telling the truth.

She looked at the werewolf and realised he was scowling. He had seen her smile and didn't like the exchange. She suddenly couldn't take the tension in the room.

"Why are you all so against each other? Surely the thing that was chasing me is of more concern then your petty feuds," She looked at each of them in turn, but their expressions were unchanged, "If you're all here to help me, then can't you do it together? If I had any idea what I was facing, I wouldn't need you, I'm sure I'd be fine on my own."

The werewolf approached her, "Except you don't know what you're facing, so don't presume that we are un-needed."

"And of course our petty feuds are unnecessary," the motherly tone in her voice had not yet faded away. "Can we please put them aside for these things?" She looked particularly hard at Eryc. Their feud went deeper than race.

Eyrc blinked behind his reflective glasses, scowling. "Yes, I think we can."

He suddenly brightened and extended a hand to the girl. "I'm Eryc, by the way." He gave her a wide smile, showing off his wolverine grin.
She took his hand with a warm smile. "Kiera."

Ishtar's hatefilled glare faded as she extended a hand to Kiera as well, "I'm Ishtar, this is Adrian."

"Pleasure ma'am," Adrian said in a very formal and southern accent.

Eryc nodded slightly to the male vampire, and stepped back.

He turned away and studied the wall, pondering. What was he doing here anyway? Stepping into the lions... no, the vampires den, for a stranger.

Oh well, he was here now, and he might as well make the most of it.
He glanced at the girl, and relised she no longer stank of fear. She may be stronger then first thought, he mused.

"Getting comfortable, now are we?" He grinned at Keira knowingly.

Keira looked at Eryc and smiled back.

"And why shouldn't I? I may as well get used to the fact that you all seem to be intent on helping me. I'm sorry if i seemed a bit abrupt then, but please realise that if I'm going to trust anyone, I need to know that they aren't going to be bickering all the time."

She looked at the changeling and the werecat. Why hadn't they said anything? Were they here to help her or just to watch what happens. Perhaps this was all a joke to them. She wanted answers.

"Um...Blanche? Are you here to help me?"

"Ishtar can I talk to for a moment please?" Adrian pulled her to the corner of the room. "I know what was chasing her."

"What?!"

"A werewolf-vampire."

"A mixed breed?"

"Yes, but they weren't looking for food. The girl is special, and they knew we would help her. They're killing two birds with one stone."

"Couldn't you have said this over there?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because, there's a pretty good chance that we're going to die, and I wanted to do this one last time," he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her up half-way to meet his mouth. "I love you my goddess of love."

"I love you my hero. Now we should go tell them this!"

The room fell in silence as Ishtar walked in. When she said what they were facing, Eryc's eyes widened.
A half breed? His eyes flicked from Ishtar to the floor, then back again.
No, it couldn't be...
He turned to the room, and nodded to everyone. "Excuse me, I need to have a word to the lady vampiress."
He walked out of the room, catching Ishtar by the arm on the way.
Once he judged them out of earshot, he span towards her.
"It was a long time ago, but, this... halfbreed, It's not... ours is it?" He took off his glasses, his pale glowing eyes demanding an answer.

"Her pack, yes. But she has been dead for some time, your pack killed her!" Her voice carried over the entire room and everyone turned to look at them. Ishtar ushered him out of the room and closed the door behind them.

"We did not kill her!"

"Yes you did, I saw you. Right after we..." she looked around in a circle, "right before I found adrian again. He doesn't know! If he did you wouldn't be breathing right now!"
I just lost the game.
