I have some ideas from my own board. 0-50 posts can make you a peasant (fantasy style, ya know?), 51-100 can make you a halfling, 101-200 can make you a knight or earl, 201-300 can make you a lord, and 301 to ---- can make you a prince/princess (or something.)
I think the numbers are good, but you can change the name of the ranks a bit. And like 451 to ---- can make you a mod or king or something (queen also, excuse me!)
Nah, too boring if you ask me... No offense to EBM. I'd say try to use the old style, like: Writer, to Writer Electer, Senetor, Seneter of Literature, Speaker of the Forum, Writer's Judge, Vice Writer, Supreme Writer. Something like that... Make it original, but simple. It's not too complicated.

What do you mean writer electer? Doesnt those seem a little political? I mean, I agree with you ZZAP but I think it is way too complicated to have so many and all of those names makes your head spin, like Crysi mentioned that she couldn't follow it...Ooh, pretty colors...
I really like the idea of having the ranks based of a system that somehow involves writing. I'll probably steal quite a few from ZZAP. I especially like Senator of the Forum... I might steal that one for myself
I just changed the ranks to the following, but expect them to change in the future:
Novice after 5 posts
Junior Writer after 15 posts
Writer after 50 posts
Senior Writer after 100 posts
Novelist after 250 posts
Speaker of the Forum after 500 posts
Also, if anyone wants a specific rank, just pm me and I'll set it up.
