Name: My name is canopy! (The small letter c is a purposeful choice and I would like it to stay that way ;)) I am good with any number of nicknames, can, can of pea, canoe, cancan, pea, canny are some of the popular ones but you're welcome to call me tree, leaf, chloroplast, or any fun nickname you can think of! I'm not picky :)

Pronouns: she/her

Age: Turning 18 this year! O.o

What I like to write: I like writing your typical fantasy novels (who doesn't?) I also enjoy satires, and humour though I usually write those more as short stories. I do occasionally write poetry but I wouldn't consider myself a poet.

What I like to review: I'll review just about anything! I am not especially picky. I do avoid pieces that are deal with some very heavy topics but other than that I don't really mind anything. Poetry is of course trickier for me, I can't review every piece but those that I can, I enjoy reviewing! :3

What I like to read: Oh I love reading! True love of my life. I try to be open-minded about the genres I read and books range from non-fiction to hardcore fantasy. If I had to pick favourites, I do like fantasy a lot (again, who doesn't?) and have a particular soft spot for historical fiction. If you even want any recommendations, feel free to ask!

My favourite thing about YWS: Definitely the community! I think YWS has one the most genuine, friendly, compassionate and helpful communities I've ever seen. And this is so rare, especially online, and I will always be grateful I stumbled across this place.

Where you can find me: I am very active on the People's Tab, so if you're looking for me I will definitely be there. I am also present in wfps and other pads (ones I host and others as well). I review and write every now and then so you will also see me around the site and also in the Randomosity.

You are always welcome to come drop by on my wall or send me a PM. I am always up for conversation! :D Plus I am a JM so if you have any questions or concerns regarding the site always feel free to send me a PM!!

Two fun facts about me: Oh my I honestly don't know what to put in here. Welllllll let's see, I became a Junior Moderator (JM) on 18th October, 2025 does that count as a cool fact? hehe. Also I am actually an ancient immortal tree and totally not a human. Mhm. That's totally true.

Ooh okay okay, this is a cool fact! I love memes and I'm pretty good at making them, so if you go through my wall, you'll find some yewis memes there! And if you want, you can let me know, and I'll make some memes for you! :3
just take a breath, love

Name: (nicknames if you feel like it) alliyah! (the lowercased 'a' is very important to me, it's part of the aesthetic) I've been trying to get people to call me anchovies, but so far no luck!

Pronouns: she / her

Age: Currently, I am 11030 days old. One of the elder YWSers still hobbling around! :)

What I like to write: Poetry! And theology non-fiction (ie. devotional material). I also enjoy being one of the Squills writers. I've had both a little poetry and a little devotional writing published and a couple newspaper articles too!

What I like to review: Mainly poetry, especially anything that is truly creative / inventive, or very introspective, or anything with bird or chicken imagery, or religious references. I also enjoy reading short-stories on YWS!

What I like to read: I also like to read interesting poetry! Outside of YWS you might find me reading theology, devotionals, and strangely enough I do enjoy the genre "New Weird" (think: Jeff VanderMeer), historical fiction, and some science-fiction. I like books that either have a religious lens (Madeline L'Engle) or make me think "wow I would have never thought of that in a million years" or something that teaches me something about history - and if you can mash ALL of those into the same book, even better! Abraham Verghese and Anthony Doerr are favorite authors too.

My favourite thing about YWS: The community, the regular repetition of seasons around writing and creativity (NaPo, RevMo, Inktober, Social Month etc) - I love how writing and reading poetry allows me the chance to think and process the world in a different way - and love interacting with poetry within community. YWS is also filled with wonderful, kind, and creative folks. And I enjoy moderating too - I like being involved in helping community events come to fruition. And I love that YWS is a scrapbook of time and creativity.

Where you can find me: poetically? you can find me swimming up-stream in a creek that I swear connects to the Missouri River, I am trying to reach my home, but always separated by hundreds of miles of land between. the stars have promised to lead me the right way. on yws? I might be reading a poem in the lit center, hanging out on the people tab, or making a goofy joke that no one else got, but none-the-less it made me laugh. :]

Two fun facts about me: We'll go with two very random things that maybe you didn't already know. In college I wrote a section of a book that was presented to Pope Francis as a gift by an American Bishop. That's cool to think about right? Also I have an unlucky habit of being / being in close-proximity to fire-hazards and things related to this - it is like a strange aspect of my life that is part joke, part strange-circumstance, part-problem. I could write a whole essay on that observation - but ask me about it some time if you're curious! I also take fire-safety very seriously. And also was once almost fired from a job for nearly setting a popcorn machine on fire.

Okay also! bonus fun-fact! My friend @Rook and I are the co-editors of a poetry and art zine called "COOP" that features all chicken poetry, short-stories, and art - and we are accepting new submissions! To read, submit, or share with others check out coopzine.com.
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

What I like to write: Sci-fi/fantasy, often killing off a beloved character in the plot. I have a talent in writing realistic characters, I love a good character-building theme, and writing with someone else makes it a thousand times more fun.

What I like to review: Sci-fi/fantasy

What I like to read: Sci-fi/fantasy to the end! Also historical fiction and the occasional biography/autobiography (often involving pilots).

My favourite thing about YWS: The people. Without the people, YWS would not be the wonderful place it is.

Where you can find me: In the RP section, in a wfp, and often sitting hunched on top of your fridge.

Two fun facts about me: I've been to two other continents, and three other countries besides the one I live in! To no surprise according to my name, I am a music enthusiast!

Meshugenah! Mostly called Mesh

Pronouns:
she/her

Age:
I joined YWS in 2004. I am old.

What I like to write:
Poetry!

What I like to review:
Poetry!

What I like to read:
... poetry.

Ok, I read a ton. I am a librarian by trade, so I read a ton of picture books/shorter nonfiction/books meant for anyone under 14. It takes me forever to get to things for me, and I'm all over the place in what I reach for - I currently have a couple books on human evolution checked out, along with one that I think is technically romantasy, I just bought one that's historical fiction and another fantasy. I also have a handful of books on linguistics (ranging from historical over a few languages to one from someone I have followed for years on internet linguistics). I did recently pull out my huge Chaucer book to look for a few things, too. I also grabbed a really cool old book on folk songs from the gold rush.

tl;dr: I'm a giant nerd who basically reads anything but horror. Fantasy/Sci-fi are my favorites, followed by historical fiction along with a healthy dose of history/linguistics and music things.

My favourite thing about YWS:
NaPo!

Where you can find me:
People tab, sometimes in pads, haunting the mods.

Two fun facts about me:
I play clarinet, and I have never actually seen any of my favorite bands live (mostly due to both really poor timing and most of my favorites being smaller groups that don't tour extensively)
***Under the Responsibility of S.P.E.W.***

Name: Tikaa

Pronouns: she / her

Age: 30+

What I like to write: fanfiction -- fantasy or sci-fi.

What I like to review: anything that isn't poetry but preferably in the genres that I write. (I do poetry if it stays in the Green Room for long enough!) If you ask me to review something, I put it on my to-do list where I roll dice on what to do first. If you want to increase your odds, I can be bribed with Green Room reviews or reviews/comments on my chapters that answer my questions! =D

What I like to read: Anything with a writing style that speaks to me.

My favourite thing about YWS: The Green Room and how it's supposed to guarantee that no work goes without attention.

Where you can find me: Exactly there. Or the people's tab. Or the "New Posts" section (and yes, this is how I catch all of your stuff @AlexWrites )

Two fun facts about me: 1) I am easily motivated by shiny things. 2) If you comment on my reviews / stories you get long answers back :3 (Is this a fun fact? It is to me!)
Edit: Found a new fun fact! I got my wife to join YWS =D

Writing is my passion so I want to share it!
I also really enjoyed Social Week :3

For in everything it is no easy task to find the middle ... anyone can get angry—that is easy—or give or spend money; but to do this to the right person, to the right extent, at the right time, with the right motive, and in the right way, that is not for everyone, nor is it easy; wherefore goodness is both rare and laudable and noble.
— Aristotle
