* Werewolves' shifting magic is genetic and inherent. They are able to shift at will from the time of birth, but socialization and nature/nurture can deeply affect a werewolf's sense of identity, how aware they are of their other form, and which they feel most at home in.
- If a werewolf is birthed while their mother is in her wolf form, they will be born in their wolven form first. If a werewolf is birthed while their mother is in human form, they will be born as a human baby first. - If a werewolf rarely shifts from one form to the other, it is common to experience a dysmorphic and disconnected relationship to their less-used form, especially if they intentionally do not access it because of social stigma, dangers, and fears.
* Like other magics, shifting can be impeded by the use of lumshade, either the sedative or the recreational form. * Shifting cannot be forced, but it can be brought on by extreme stress and heightened emotions - in the same way that an elemental magic user might use magic without thinking when experiencing fight or flight. If a werewolf feels they are in danger, a shift might happen instinctually to whichever form they feel most equipped to fight/protect themselves in. Which form feels safest will vary from psyche to psyche, as both human and wolven forms have different strengths.
- Human forms have more reach, more control, and (as adults) larger size. - Wolven forms have greater speed, a stronger bite, claws, and a smaller size. - Example: A panic attack, a near-death experience, or a life-threatening fight could trigger a shift in the werewolf. It would be subconsciously triggered at will, instead of consciously.
Common Misinformation
* The wolf “takes over.”
- A werewolf’s wolven half or human half cannot “take over.” A werewolf is the same person in both forms/shapes. They do not lose any of their senses, their mind, their emotions, or anything that makes them themself. The only thing that changes is their physical form and a few physical capabilities.
* Werewolves experience heightened bloodlust.
- Whatever murderous thoughts a werewolf has are not attached to a specific form, nor does being a wolf enhance that killing instinct.
* Werewolves shift during a full moon.
- This is just fundamentally untrue and easily disproven. The moon has no affect on their ability to shift or not.
* While werewolves are in their wolf form, they can’t talk.
- However disturbing it be, werewolves can talk in human tongues while in wolven form if desired. They can also make wolven sounds (and not just the human imitation) in their human form if desired.
* Werewolves have special immunities to magic or physical damage.
- Unfortunately, they do not. They do, however, have higher stamina levels than the average human and often a higher pain tolerance. Their immune systems are stronger.

@winterwolf0100 I loved getting to collab with you even though we were both kinda out of it, haha. I think we landed on a strong scene between Ossie and Simon, even if it breaks my heart (as most of Ossie's scenes do).
Also, winter, moving forward, let us know what your schedule looks like as you figure it out, since you'll be out of the country after the 15th! I don't know what timezone you're going to and how it'd translate, but we can talk about things as we move forward.

I'll be in Central European Time (0.0) for about a month, and will prob just have to see what exactly that looks like once I'm there, though I'm afraid it def means I won't be able to be at the usual writing time since that would be close to 3-4am over there. Earlier afternoon in US timezones, or possibly morning, might work for me though? It's hard for me to think through it all until I'm actually in that timezone but yeah ;-;
