Captured In Duolingo's Basement

You have been captured and are now stuck in the basement of an evil villain... also known to millions as Duolingo. He forces you to spend every waking moment learning German, as well as sending threatening notification reminders to app users in danger of losing their streak. The only problem... you lost your streak and now there is no way out... or is there?

Meet the cast!

Duolingo (AKA Duo, Your Majesty, Supreme Ruler Of All Life Throughout History, The Bird, Green, and many more titles to be discovered throughout the RP) is a large green owl. He is actually an eternally living spirit that travels the galaxy and seeks to dominate every living creature with a single universal language... but he is commonly known as the leader of the Duolingo app. Currently, he is on earth, taking over the planet one person at a time through his language learning platform and social media videos. The only thing... when you lose your streak... you might just lose your freedom and life too. Duo captures those unfortunate people in his gigantic underground layer AKA the Basement.

Duo has a select group of devout followers, some of them being humans on earth and some of them being other eternal spirits that travel with him as he takes over worlds. Zari is a teenage girl who is a devout follower of Duo on earth. She is 17, has a very kind heart, and is always smiling. She has a bubbly personality and a passion for unity, which is why she aligns with Duo's message so well. Although, she feels that the owl is a bit harsh, she still loves him dearly. She is best friends with Lily. The two of them often play "good cop and bad cop" on Duo's new recruited prisoners. Zari works as a personal assistant to Duo, along with Lily.

Lily is the best friend of Zari. She is Duo's other personal assistant. She is known for being emotionless. Although she currently possesses the body of a 19 year old female, she is actually a spirit from another galaxy.

Junior is the youngest member of Duo's followers. He is the 8 year old, human son of Eddy. He spends his days causing trouble and going on adventures around Duo's layer. Although, he often works in the experimental unit with Eddy and Falstaff.

Eddy is the father of Junior. He is known as the 'mad scientist' of Duo's followers. He performs experimental surgeries, alterations, and experiments on Duo's victims. He works mainly in the experimental unit.

- DUOLINGO -

Duo grinned, peering at his innocent victim, tied up before him. He was still asleep, but Duo knew he would awaken soon. The man in front of him began to stir. Duolingo smiled, eager to meet his new best friend.

Why, did he feel like a truck ran him over 3 times on a bumpy surface? He groaned as he cracked open his eyes, his brown hair a mess more than likely. He could feel it. Nevermind being tied up, what was that thing in front of him???

- DUOLINGO -

Duo took a deep breath and took a seat, adjacent to the man. As he opened his eyes, the owl flashed a large smile with his green and feathery face and curved orange beak.

"Welcome, my friend! You have been sleeping so peacefully, I didn't want to wake you. It is a known fact that a lack of sleep can affect your memory retention... something so precious to me... something so precious to learning..."

He stared. Then it clicked. "Oh yeah, you're the guy dressed up in the grinch owl suit. How many grinches did you skin? I'm curious."

- DUOLINGO -

Duo saw the gears click into place in the man's head, realizing who he was. He chuckled in response to his comedic answer.

"Well, Knor, I will have you know that I have skinned a lot more than just grinches to achieve this build," he paused, with a malicious glare, and just for a second, his eyes seemed to resemble something darker... almost like flames. The bird's eyes returned to normal after he took a few deep breaths, composing himself. "So, do you know why you are here?"

- Knor Sullivan -

Okay, so he was kidnapped by a very large, unnaturally green owl. Who was also demonic. "To tell you how to properly pronounce my name?"

- DUOLINGO -

Oh, he is a witty one, thought the owl. Peering into the man's eyes, Duolingo focused intently, with a blank stare.

"I know much more about you than you think," he replied, maintaining his emotionless, penetrating glare.

Duo seemed to stop, almost as if he were admiring a beautiful piece of artwork. The man was tied up, unable to move, but it seemed his reactions were what excited the bird the most.

- Knor Sullivan -

"Can you ask where the bathroom is in a single universal language?" He inquired, being deeply unsettled by the staring. What was it with owls and staring?

He also couldn't feel his limbs. Just numbness.

- DUOLINGO -

"Uni-uni-uni..ver...sal...language..." the owl paused. He closed his eyes as a shutter ran through his body. A smile came onto his face. "I knew it. Right from when you made your profile. I knew you would be... the one... already, thinking like a mastermind..." his voice trailed off as he glanced downwards, looking at his soft, light green feathers that plagued his stomach like freckles.

"I am going to ask again. Do you know why you are here?"

- Knor Sullivan -

"I'm not finished. All you've got to do is put both hands at your crotch, waddle and jump around, and ask 'toilet?'. Works everytime." He grinned, completely ignoring the question the psycho-bird was asking.

- DUOLINGO -

The bird paused for a second as if he was oblivious to humor and emotions. "If that was your version of a joke, I can tell you tried," he smiled a forced smile.

"Did you know that there are 7,139 recognized languages in the world? And toilet does not have the same meaning in all of them. Your statement is incorrect. Perhaps, if you had not given up on your German streak, you would know that by now..."

- Knor Sullivan -

"What joke? I was stating a fact." He put on a serious face.

- DUOLINGO -

Suddenly, the bird burst out in hysterical laughter. He laughed so hard that tears began to run down his feathers and fall onto the floor.

Five minutes later, Duo was rolling on the floor, still laughing.

During said five minutes, Knor was trying to see just how much he could move. If he was going to be here he'd have to do whatever he could to make this mutant bird suffer.
