Back home!!!

Um... we're at 3063 words!

We won't talk about Book 2, but I think I now have some good ideas on how I can develop the bromance between Adelore and Cyrus, even with Alainna as a narrator. In the past, I found it nearly impossible to do because why would Adelore talk about Cyrus with Alainna? But like. I have some ideas now. XD

I skipped ahead to a different scene because it was easier to do, but I didn't work on it a lot because I was on my phone! Now that I have my computer, hopefully I'll get more words in. :)

Out of context quote!

“No,” Cyrus said immediately. “I do not want your help.”

Yeeeeeah, today we're starting off at 3198 words today, which means that my writing output was less than great yesterday. XD

No out of context quotes because too many spoilers in the little that I wrote.

We are NOT going to mention the abysmal word count that was yesterday. (3214 words)

Instead, I'm going to talk about cover art contest entries. XD

I am not a good artist. If I ever had to design a cover... well... someone else has to do it. But also, shiny badge for entering the cover art contest.

Anyway, I feel bad about submitting something shoddy looking. But I also can't draw very well. So...I started to think about stuff that I am good at. The fiber arts, in particular. And Cyrus loves quilts. So, I figure that if I can make a quilt block for the front cover, it'll be intriguing. So I sketched something quick...

Cynasi and Cyrus. Dream team, yo!

So the plan is to turn this into digital art and make it into a cover. >.>

EDIT:

Okay... maybe I am going to use this space to rant about my edits that I did for Book 2. XD Spoilered because of slight Book 2 spoilers, but also none of this is going to make sense to you if you read it without knowing the story. XD

Spoiler
SO. Even though I barely wrote anything for Book 4, I did edit Book 2. And I got an IDEA. It's for when they're in the garden.

Currently Adelore...

1) partially heals her
2) tries to find out who hurt her
3) talks about healing her more and the conditions therein
4) Clarise interrupts

But like... this doesn't quite make sense to his character because he literally finds out that Sergius is behind this. If he is involved with the trial as much as he is, why isn't he trying to insert himself more and demand that she testify??? Like, he would offer to heal more, but with the caveat that she testifies because if she testifies against Sergius, her being a lady and respectable, their case has an added legitimacy.

Furthermore, if he asks more questions (and why wouldn't Adelore ask questions???) he would probably realize that Sergius, while not the one who injured her, is behind her injury in some important way. (And Sergius *is* one of the major reasons why she was hurt, which is delved into more during Book 4.) Which, in his mind, would justify the destruction as a punishment.

So he asks that she work with Cyrus and testify against Sergius in return for healing, confident that, with this new testimony, justice for Sergius will be all but certain.

So, the new, rewritten chapter would look something like this...

1) partially heals her.
2) finds out that Sergius is behind this
3) offers to fully heal her in exchange for her testimony against Sergius

And this does several things...

1) It emphasizes that Adelore is actively working together with Cyrus very deliberately and also confirms their friendship and closeness to each other.

2) It confirms how much Adelore hates Sergius.

3) When they resist and try to hint to Adelore that this might not be a good idea, it naturally leads to Adelore asking questions, which leads to the truth.

4) It makes Adelore a natural antagonist to them, especially when Adelore reassures them that Cyrus is fair and would protect them from Sergius. (Which is true, so it wouldn't bother Adelore to say that, BUT ALSO.)

5) It streamlines and focuses the chapter

Also... it would solve the current problem that I have with the series... how do you show the depth of friendship between Cyrus and Adelore in Book 2? Because right now, it's not very apparent and Alainna, being the narrator, doesn't have many opportunities to really delve into this friendship much. So, in the subsequent books, it looks really out of place when their friendship is brought up.

This... might mean that I need to reassess the conversation between Clarise and Alainna. But oh well. That can be done later...

Starting off with 4078 words today!!!

Okay, so I was really grumpy when I wrote the above post because I thought I had written garbage the day before and I was just over it. HOWEVER. Once I reviewed what I had written, it was actually okay??? It just needed to be expanded a bit, which is what I did yesterday.

(Basically, it was an action scene but very sparse, so when I filled it in, it's actually looking good. SO HOORAY!)

A out-of-context quote:

“Relax and stop worrying,” he said, leaning in Cyrus’s arms. “Remember, this is supposed to be fun!"

(Hahaha, this almost sounds like a romantic scene. It is absolutely 100% not a romantic scene, and honestly that makes it funnier to me. XD)

4225 words to start with today!

I... wrote a ton for LSS. >.> Then, by the time I got to my story, the previous night's lack of sleep caught up with me and I fell asleep, hahah. A lot of what I wrote is actually nonsensical. However! I still have an out of context line for you...

Hesitantly, he asked, “Why are you still glowing?"

HONESTLY, VALID QUESTION.

4439!

Though like, as I review it, I realize that I mostly moved scenes around through copy and pasting, but forgot to delete the original scene so RIP word count. XD

No quote for today! It's.. very spoilerish, lol.

Okay, a quick note to self but...

Spoiler
I think I need to rewrite several things.

- As things stand, the Lady gets off a little too easily. Yes, there's conflict, but also she needs to have a decisive moment as well in which she is the one to decide things, otherwise her storyline (and character, really) looks weak.

- Same with Diamea, though to a lesser extent.

- The antagonist needs to be the one to pull the trigger (metaphorically speaking) and be the one to attack first, which prompts the ensuing fight.

- The antagonist needs to talk more, which means I have to remember how to write that dialogue. *sighs*

- Cyrus's role is important, but it needs to be alluded to more in the subsequent books... I need to look into how weddings are portrayed again and how that foreshadows the wedding of the Lady and Diamea.

- The antagonist's role needs to be alluded to at the very beginning.

UH... we had a brief reset. And break because I needed to rethink things. Now I'm back to writing though...

Probably going to keep most of the words I wrote, but change around a couple of big things. *shrugs*

UM. Some relevant Book 2/3 notes? Because lately I've been frustrated with my previous writing being inconsistent...

Spoiler
I'm already revising Book 2 to make Adelore/Cyrus a little bit more there. I also need to do this for Book 3, especially in the second half because Cyrus is curiously absent there.

Some thoughts...

- Forgiving the father could make him think about Cyrus, since his relationship with Jules was complicated by Cyrus.

- A mental comparison between Leonido/Cyrus seems apt, lol.

- Leaning on his guide and stumbling around would probably remind him of Cyrus.

- The Ticketmaster brings up Cyrus... so a comparison there might be apt as well.

Wedding worldbuilding thoughts...

Spoiler
If the groom is to be blindfolded, it makes sense to have a groomsman to 1) protect the groom somewhat, 2) direct the groom to the bride, 3) moral support.

SO.

In Book 1 with the fake wedding, it makes sense to have Sergius eschew this tradition because Solea doesn't really have a lot of friends or close classmates, other than Alainna. So Sergius would basically just let Solea alone without anyone posing as a groomsman to help her. :P

In Book 3... I might have to rewrite the wedding chapter so, instead of the Swans just staring at Adelore, they stare at him and then, when they realize he has no idea how to do anything, they over explain things, then Francine comes with her dig and then everything goes downhill from there. XD

In early Book 4... when Cyrus first physically meets Diamea with the Lady, there should be a kind of odd thought like, "Um... is this the wedding and am I the groomsman?" Which would make Cyrus feel really weird and icky about the whole thing because NO.

Ta da!

It took me an embarrassing long time to figure out the quilting motif that I wanted to put around it. I tried bars at first, but I wasn't feeling it, and candies seemed too simple. So then I tried a mixture of candies with right triangles interspersed and it made me happy. I like quilting with triangles! So this was fun.

Anyway, the whole thing makes me happy. I like using ai to make the art for my stories, generally, because I am not a very good artist. But for a contest, I wanted to create my own original art. And, while I doubt it'll win, it's my original work and that makes me happy. :)

... more on writing tomorrow, but suffice it to say I'm still rewriting some parts and it's getting better, but still a little messy and the word count is not very accurate right now, lol.

It's so creative to create a cover based on a quilting motif! :D And I wish you all the best with writing-- sounds like it's tough right now, but I know you can get through it and come out with even better novels on the other side ^^ Kinda like carving a statue, maybe >.> Gotta keep chipping away at the raw stone to reach the finished piece :] You can do this, Snoink!!

Oh my gosh wait hold on. So I saw your cover in the oficial thread and I was like oh holy cow that's cool. I don't know much about your story because I haven't been around that long to hear much, but I love the simplicity of it, and I legit thought you just put a bunch of stuff together in a program or something, but it's awesome that you made that yourself! If I can ask, what did you use to make it and how'd you get the lines so straight?

As for the whole writing bit, you've got this! I've seen so many snippets of your story so far and I LOVE everything it's so goofy and I love seeing you rant even though I have no idea what's going on. XD Keep going Snoink you've done so much this month already!!! ^^
If you ever want to talk, please feel free to PM me for any reason! ^^

@Orabella, I used Affinity Photo, which is kind of like an old school Photoshop! Basically, I took the photo that I took of my doodle above. Then I opened it with Affinity Photo, made a new layer, and traced the outline of my doodle so that it became "digital." There's this option in the program where you can view gridlines, so I used that to keep everything straight. That, and if you click and then press shift and then point to the next part, you can make straight lines. So I basically did that to keep everything straight, lol. Then, since everything was in a grid, I used that to draw little boxes around my artwork

...there's probably an easier way to do this, but I don't know how. XD

I'm not sure if this makes any sense, so here's a screenshot of my program, so you can kind of see how I did it, lol. You will see that the lines, alas, are not perfectly straight, but. Well. I tried. XD

Awww, thank you! ^^ It... actually can be a fairly violent story at times, so like. It's not pure comedy, hahaha. But I like quoting the funny parts because they are my favorite parts to write. :) And there is definitely humor liberally dispersed throughout! (I think some of my favorite comments that I've gotten are, "Is it okay for me to laugh here? Because it's funny, but also...")

@Spearmint>>

And I wish you all the best with writing-- sounds like it's tough right now, but I know you can get through it and come out with even better novels on the other side ^^

Thank you, @Spearmint! I think I'm on the right track right now since the reset... I'm just grumpy because I have to juggle the various drafts in my head and I feeeeeel the pressure to get this ending right. (Mainly, because I get grumpy when other writers don't stick the ending, so I don't really want to be grumpy with myself. XD)

*****

Okay! Writing stuff!

I'm still doing the reset stuff, but something clicked last night -- which, honestly, is bad news for my characters, but good news for the dramatic interests of the story, hahaha. Everything is set up for the Lady to have her moment... for better or worse.

Anyway, no word count since I'm still integrating everything together so the word count is very much skewed. However! A quote:

“I'm Diamea, so I get the special treatment.”

...in context, this quote is actually hysterical, trust me on this. XD

I think! I get to write monologues today!!! Which I am actually quite excited about because monologues are clearly the greatest. I also think I will probably finish integrating everything???

That is... if I don't spend all my free time on LSS. XD

*blinks*

Okay, I actually slept more than four hours last night!!! so I am slightly more optimistic about my productivity today, haha. (These last two weeks have been bruuuuuuutal.)

So... on Sunday...

I finished trimming down the scenes so now the reset has fully happened! It's about 4k words right now, lol. So... yeah, lots of deleting happened. But I didn't really write too much new content, other than merging the existing scenes together with the newly rewritten scenes.

On Monday...

I went back to Book 1 (which is actually in the scope of Camp Nano, I'll have you know!) and added more background information about Kalie in the discussion between Solea, Alainna, and Uclepidies.

Revised scene from Book 1...

Spoiler
Uclepidies waited for Alainna to put the necklace in her pocket before he started. “As I mentioned before, I would like to ask you some questions of some urgency. But, before I begin, I would like to offer you both the opportunity to ask me any question without fear of repercussions. For I fear that our last meeting was an unhappy one, and I am eager to clear up any misunderstandings.”

Solea hesitated. Many questions flooded her mind. Too many questions, in fact. Once more, she wondered about the odd gifts that Uclepidies had given them and why he insisted that they wear them to class. She wondered why Cyrus was specifically chosen as their new language teacher and what Uclepidies thought of him. She wondered whether Uclepidies knew how friendly Solea had stupidly been toward Cyrus, before today’s disaster struck.

But, before Solea could ask any of the questions that swarmed her mind, Alainna narrowed her eyes. “Can we even trust you with matters concerning Conquerors?”

Uclepidies blinked at her accusatory tone. “I beg your pardon?”

Alainna sat up taller. “I've been reading the books that the other Black Swans gave me for their birthday,” she said. “According to their accounts, you are the one who betrayed them and gave them to the first Conqueror so that she could bleed and possess them.”

“Kalie,” Uclepidies said stubbornly. “The first Conqueror’s name was Kalie.”

“Never mind her name!” Alainna snapped. “They wrote that the Conqueror gave you special tasks and privileges away from them, all while they were essentially enslaved. How do I know I can trust you?”

Uclepidies flinched. In a low voice, he muttered, “In the beginning, I admit that I was sympathetic to her situation. How could I not be? Kalie was my niece! Her father thoroughly rejected her as a baby and, when Kalie started having her own children with strange men, her mother rejected her as well. Even when Kalie gave away her children to other families, in hopes to earn her parents’ love, they still turned away from her. She was only a girl then, only a little older than you, and they abandoned her completely. Out of desperation, she turned to me, since she knew I loved humanity and wouldn’t look down upon her, even if she were mortal. Why wouldn’t I look upon her with pity?”

At the story, tears came to Solea’s eyes.

But Alainna’s face remained hard. “According to the accounts, you freely gave the first Conqueror your blood to drink. And you didn’t think this would have any lasting consequences?”

Uclepidies suddenly flinched. “It was a mistake,” he said bitterly. “I understand that now. At the time, I thought it was the best path forward for me. I was wrong! I gave her my trust. In return, she went mad, betrayed me, and destroyed everything and everyone I loved. I might have been sympathetic to her at first, but by the end, Kalie and I were the greatest of enemies.”

“But was she really your enemy?” Alainna demanded. When Uclepidies scowled, she added, “When Eurodities destroyed the first Conqueror in a cursed lake, you tried to save her!”

“Of course, I tried to save her!” Uclepidies spat out. “She ordered me to save her. I was possessed. I could not resist!”

“But I heard that she called you off in her final moments,” Alainna said. “And yet you still tried to save her, even when you were free.”

Uclepidies made a face. “Kalie was dissolving into the lake. I felt sorry for her. By then, I hated her with every fiber of my being. Yet, even though she thoroughly earned her destruction by then, I never wanted to see her dissolve into a lake!”

Alainna scowled.

“As the Lady, you never wanted to see Kalie be destroyed either,” Uclepidies added stubbornly before Alainna could say anything else. “It is because of you that Kalie’s voice was preserved. When the Lady saw Kalie use the last of her voice to free me from my possession so that I could be saved from destruction, the Lady granted that Kalie be allowed to keep her voice so she could guide her descendants along the right path.”

Alainna scowled more. “That was a mistake!”

So! Still playing with it. I'm terrified it comes off too info-dumpy... though like, there's enough violence and horror in that section where it probably is okay. (My general rule with info dumps is that, if you need to info dump, bring out the inherent conflict with the information presented so that it reads more like a side story and less like a block of text.)

Anyway, hopefully, it gives depth for the story at large... *sighs*
