Wrap your hands around my tongue
beat it into submission
to smooth out its iron edges.

You give it a spigot of
honey and milk
and I watch as only sweetness
pours from my bloodstained lips.

Wrap your hands around mine
ease the ice out of their cartilage
make them feel like flesh again.

You remove gun shells from my palms
and put aloe on the cracks
and you kiss every knucklebone
to breathe life into dead skin

flood it with your influence
until there is nothing of me left

the real thing is
we build narrowly defined roles
with paper mache
and get made when it sticks to our hands
but we're the ones who laid the glue
and it's only sticking to us
because we let it

we like our own words to control us
like shackles made of wind
we pantomime prison cells
because it's scary to say it's fake
and much easier to claim it
is the real thing

the real thing is
people make a living off of cowardice
because we call each other tough
but witness each other shatter
and we turn fragility into a secret
because it terrifies our core

we were taught cracks and wrinkles
were the greaest displays of weakness
instead of proof life failed in killing us

Today's song was West Coast Smoker by Fall Out Boy. I rolled spoken word and lyric. So, I was inspired by the kyric, "Your eyes are blocking my starlight."

You call yourself my everything, tell me I should hold you in high regard. Lovers are sweetest when they're intertwined at the neck, when they pass dried blood through French kisses. You take devotion and make it macabre and visceral.

I gave you my heart and fought tooth and nail to ensure you didn't consume. And still, after the battle is won and my heart is my own again, it's dripping with its own gore and covered in teeth marks.

I am tired of oozing. I long for love like a spring, cool and cleansing, but you only know how to fingerpaint with blood and puss. You lick the pages of horror novels and spin me into the first victim.

But the only horror is your delusion, your arrogance, your apathy. Stitch voodoo dolls in my image, but I will find the river that washes your curse clean.

I watch you through a telescope
because you act like a star.
You treat yourself like you're
light years away
when I could brush your hair
and you'd squeal from the audacity.

What do you gain from fake distance?
Is there safety from cardboard masks
and paper mache sheilds?
You're a star from a children's coloring book
and you've barely stayed in the lines
to make yourself who you need to be.

I see you bite back a laugh
bite your tongue until it bleeds.
Does it hurt to pretend to burn
when your skin must be ice?
