He cleared his throat, glancing away. "No. I just... forgot how they are... I'll be ready for the cu-sith, don't worry."

"I'm sure." He reached down and rubbed his ankle as he walked, the small cuts stinging and making his fingers come away bloody. How embarassing.

"I need you to be solid on this," Tove pressed. "I can do it myself if need be but I'm not dragging someone in if they're not ready."

"If I wasn't ready, I'd say so." He straightened his back, glancing over at her. "It's fine; I'm sure."

She gave him a long look, then dipped her head. "Very well, then."

He glanced away and sighed softly, for once his usual jolly-mood sullied. He'd gone and fucked that one up, huh? Made himself look like an even bigger idiot than he was.

Beck lay sprawled on their stomach beside the waterfall pool, head nearly touching the water as they watched a small group of glowing blue minnow-like fish dart beneath the surface. They were, committing every detail to memory so they could sketch with ease. It was fascinating; they'd never seen anything like these fish before. They wondered if they were magic or bioluminsecent, and what exactly caused them to glow if it was one of those two. Were they edible? What was their predator? What did they eat?

Aeron squinted at their silhouette, not sure what he was looking at.

Tove rode Ragnar closer, then paused just before entering the clearing. Unbeknownst to Beck, there was a hulking shadow creeping forward from behind them, just in front of a towering grass hump beside the waterfall. As it stepped into the moonlight Tove saw the dark, mossy green fur of the cu-sith.

"Aw sh--" He cut himself off under his breath, glancing at Tove and gesturing for his ears. Shit, shit, shit. So much for dawn.

She nodded and whispered the spell. The world was enveloped in a silent roar for both them and for Beck. Beck noticed immediately when the waterfall stopped, and they sat up in confusion. It felt like they were underwater. They patted at their ears, then snapped their fingers, growing increasingly distressed as they heard nothing. Was this a fae curse? They looked around wildly. The cu-sith's lips curled back as Beck moved, and it wiggled its haunches, taking in a breath to bark.

Aeron saw the motion and realized it was a human-- well, humanoid. About to be a cu-sith snack. He strode forward quickly, staff raised in front of him and drew in a deep breath to start his incantation.

Tove joined him, jumping off of Ragnar and raising her own staff. Beck stumbled to their feet, freezing as they saw Tove and Aeron. Both their lips were moving. Were they saying a curse? Was this their spell? "Please, stop!" Beck cried out, shuddering as they realized they couldn't hear their own voice.

Aeron didn't bother to see who the person was, but he hoped they'd stop stumbling around. He didn't want to risk them getting in the way. He shouted at the top of his lungs and the first attack hit the cu-sith, making it stumble to the side heavily.
