“So, I, um… I might have been a little careless…” she was blushing. “And, um… It’d been so long, you know? And, um, I wasn’t even thinking about — I know this is bad timing — we’re um, well we’re being careful now but… um… I think it may be too late?” She rubbed her belly despite herself. “And, well, I’m not super regular anyhow so I didn’t really think about it, but then I should have gotten one around the adoption ceremony but there was just so much going on I kind of didn’t really think about it too much, you know? But… um… it’s been a while at this point… and I’ve been feeling sick a lot lately… and I sort of had hoped that it was just, I don’t know, the whole Northern food that my body wasn’t used to but um… well… I… think I may have… I may be…”

“That’s true.” Aashi nodded, hesitating. “I… think? He’ll be happy about it? I’ve never seen a more excited man than he was my entire pregnancy with Tasia… I just… I don’t know. He’s just so sure he’s a bad father, despite how many times I assure him he’s not.”

Aashi’s smile grew and she nodded. “What a good year this has turned into! Getting a husband and a child within months.”

“Um… wherever is easiest for you.” Aashi smiled. The apothecary back home could only be called one in the most generous terms possible. And she made house calls. Aashi wasn’t quite sure how to behave in an infirmary.
