Gaius nodded. "I've got to take care of some business in my office. Give them my thanks again."

Ky and Tadaaki both had forced themselves to calm down and now were waiting in dread to see how much trouble they were in.

Sera returned to the room a few minutes later, glancing between them all. "Lord Ash gives you his thanks and expresses his sympathies to your situstion," she informed them.

“Thank you, ma’am,” they murmured, dipping their heads.

She nodded back. "Please don't try to stand again; you could hurt yourselves very badly right now."

“Yes ma’am.” They both ducked their heads. Ky risked a sheepish glance at her. “…sorry.”

"No need to apologize. Just don't do it again; it's for your safety, not mine." She glanced toward the door. "I'll be in my office if you need anything, alright?"

“Yes’m.” Ky ducked her head.

She headed to her office, which was within the infirmary but separated from it by a door.

They watched her go, then exchanged a quick glance, then settled for looking at literally anything else. They weren’t allowed to chitchat in front of Aleth — the needless chatter pissed him off. And anything substantive enough that wouldn’t irritate him shouldn’t be said with a witness that close. A woman that could bully the Lord of this Keep wasn’t one to be underestimated. Or irritated. They’d like for her to keep the shears put away. M
