Kivvien took the gloves from him and set the oil on the ground. He got up to grab the tarp and lay it out. Wordlessly, he used a brush to coat the tarp in oil and to spread some over his gloves before moving to shift the corpse onto the tarp.
Hieronymus watched in awe, then shook himself. "Um, can I do anything to help?"
"The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that." -Karis Nemik
"Because of its skin?' He dipped his head. "As you wish, sir. Should I move out of way to make room for the carcass?"

Hieronymus did so gladly, slipping out of his prosthetics and hauling them up beside him.

Kivvien rolled the demon onto the tarp and wrapped it securely, getting up to grab a coil of rope to tie it closed. He then knelt down to hoist it over his shoulder and put it in the back of the cart.
He cleaned up his supplies with a sigh and double-checked that everything was secure. He grabbed one of the softer blankets from the cart and put it on the seat. "Conceal yourself, creature." There wasn't enough room in the cart for it to return there, so Kivvien would have to find a way to ensure that it was concealed in the seat, which was already padded. Kivvien would swaddle it if he had to.
He nodded and tried to wrap the blanket around himself and the prosthetics efficiently. It ended up being somewhat difficult to keep his third arm free, so he just wrapped it in and laid down.

Kivvien assessed the thing and nodded. It would be good enough unless anyone looked too closely. He stepped into the cart and prompted the mule to keep walking.
"That was very skillfully done," Hieronymus said from under the blanket. "But how do you plan to explain this carcass when we reach the town? Won't people be suspicious?"

He nodded. "The truth is a wise avenue, I expect. Where did you learn to kill it like that?"

"The palace has funded much experimentation with the demons. Most was theoretical until members of the royal army were sent to retrieve a set of live specimens. I do believe there is one or two left living within the laboratories of my patron."
"That's amazing!" He sat up slightly. "So you worked with your patron?"
