Pratik looked towards it, then looked back at Ky. He couldn’t read her energy. But the hints she was giving off were… well, he wouldn’t say unstable. But he also wouldn’t say that they were. Someone really ought to give her something to do. Either way, he was going to ensure she actually came back inside at the very least. He gestured towards it. “Brains before beauty.”
Ky snorted but smiled despite herself and started towards the door.

“I know.” Ky smiled politely. It wasn’t as if Gaius was personally going to be the one doing the stabbing, probably. And it wasn’t as if the military needed him for daily functions. “I appreciate it.”

Ky smiled a little at that, finally a genuine one. That was thoughtful. She wasn’t going to take him up on it, obviously. The head of the literal military of an entire fiefdom wasn’t going to be her emotional support. Neither of them would like that. Trusting him with her physical safety was something entirely different from actually trusting him. “That’s very kind; thank you.”

“Uh…” she didn’t mean to sober, but she did. She should have been expecting him to turn the conversation in that direction, and yet she hadn’t seen it coming. She was too distracted by everything. “Um… maybe, yes. I asked Ka’Nor what he thought, since he knows all of your styles and knows what I know. I value his opinion… even though I know it’s my decision,” she added lamely, hoping to avoid Gaius yelling at her for being polite. Apparently that wasn’t allowed here.
