Ky listened, interested. She didn’t think Gaius liked anyone. And what was it about this dead-eyed man that endeared him to Gaius?

He nodded. "I was glad to come here; it's a peaceful place for the most part."

"That's good." He wasn't sure if it was going to stay that way. And he also wasn't so sure that this place was going to bring Ky peace in the long run, or if she'd be completely and utterly stifled by the time he returned. But he hoped the calm would be good for her. "It's always better when you can be content with your post. Not itching to end up somewhere else."

"He's got Utrid, right?" Zander asked. He'd gleaned as much as humanly possible from Pratik in the past day, and had a general gist of the situation and Pratik's disdain for them both. "Is he going to make himself a problem?"

"Utrid." Bay thought for a moment. "Utrid is used to the late Lord Tarr's rule. He worked with him as a teammate, not a hound dog. Tarr the Younger will likely make an enemy of his own General if I know their reputations correctly."

Zander nodded. That, also, was what Pratik had hinted towards. But he'd been all but begging Zander to go help him kill Utrid and Tarr and be done with it all, which was what took most of their conversation. Sure, he'd danced around the topic, but they both knew full well what he wanted. "Do you have any working theories on how he'll respond, if and when he turns on Tarr?"

"Of course. My apologies." Zander nodded to him. He legitimately was just curious, not digging for information. He was quiet for a moment, thinking through all this before he mused, "should be interesting to see how this all shakes out."
