“Thank you.” Ky smiled, but it was a little sad, as it struck her that she’d now been away for her parents for more time than she’d officially had with them. “I’m very fortunate.”

“Do you know what an—?” That was a dumb question. And forced her to say the word. But obviously anyone who lived here would understand it. “The thing upstairs? Do you have anything that could explain it to me like I was a little child?”
She could build up to an actual understanding once she had a baseline. But for now she didn’t have anything to work with.

Every last thing that she just said was overwhelming to try to detangle. Why in the world did the librarians all have such confusing titles? And which direction was Section 6? And could she really just go up to a random woman she didn’t know and start asking about an orrery? And better yet, was there a way to avoid having to say that word again? Well, attempt to say. And fail. “Excellent. Thank you.”
She dipped her head, refusing to glance around and tacitly admit she had no idea what any of that meant.

"Certainly!" The old woman studied her, smiling slightly. "If she's not in her office--which is conveniently labeled--she's likely to be deep in the back. She's middle-aged, never asked how old. Big blue eyes and a messy bun stacked on her head."

They’d see if she went in search of her. She hadn’t decided yet. But maybe.

"If you do decide you're interested in diaries, though, do come talk to me or anyone wearing gray robes. Red is for fiction, with colored armbands signifying what type. Blue is for poetry, green is for specifically Ash-related documents..." She smiled awkwardly. "There are a lot of colors and a great many categories. There's a book about that, too."
(I'm realizing that fifteen is not quite enough librarians to run this library I'm not sure of the number but it's more than 20)

Ky blinked at her, startled by the fact that the librarians themselves were color coded. “… what color is astronomy?”

"That would be maroon." She gestured to a librarian down below with that color robe. "Not very many of them; it's a new idea and we only have a small collection."
