That’s so annoying >.>

Mine is really hit or miss but earlier it was lagging by a solid 6 seconds. And ik that that just highlights my impatience haha but it was making me mad having to wait

My favorite birds are all birds! :D In particular though Zebra Finches (used to have some of those! and they're my ultimate favorite even more than chickens, though that information is confidential), Blue Jays, Cardinals, Herons, Chickens, Ducks (all ducks, but especially mandarin ducks and mallards), WILD TURKEYS !! (so majestic + sometimes annoying!), pheasants (all pheasants), blue-gold maccaw, Lovebirds (we used to have some of those as well, though they were slightly annoying), PIGEONS :') , OWLS (really adored reading the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series in Middle School, which was all about owls), penguins, greylag geese, goldfinches, hummingbirds, crested cranes, red hawks.

Also it's pretty interesting to see when there are white peacocks and white ravens - very mind-bending. @_@

Anyone else have some more favorite birds or reasons they love a particular bird?

confession: I actually really dislike birds xD I have had negative interactions with chickens, geese, swans, ducks, hawks, killdeer, sparrows, and cockatiels -- not to mention some finches at a place I used to work making my life very difficult and occasionally scaring me haha contrasted with the few times I've interacted with some parrots that were charming haha they're pretty but are my mortal foe

Also, I figured out a way to share What's The Deal With Birds~

Basically, there are predatory journals that will publish anything if you pay them enough money. And someone wanted to prove that. So he posted this spoof in a journal that claimed to be a reliable science publisher.

I believe this should be anonymous on all sides, but I encourage you to open the link in an incognito browser to be completely certain~

The entire thing is just delightful, and I especially recommend reading the acknowledgements at the end xD

I like birds because they remind me of freedom and openness. There are so many different birds, that it is hard to call them all. I had a lot of books about birds when I was younger and I was always fascinated by the different adaptations of them. I mean some of them can´t even fly, which is fascinating.

Some that I really like, besides the swan, are shoebills. They look like mechanical beasts when you meet one in real life (or in the zoo), cranes, eagles, vultures, penguins, owls(we had one in our attic), dodos, peacocks and actually every bird is fascinating in it´s own, even the small sparrows, coming to your window, saying hello or crows. They are really intelligent.

Haha, that paper is fun. I like the keyword WTF and that the text tries to be scientific in language. There again in the acknowledgement are monkeys. The same as here on YWS?

Yeah. Maybe I should start such a magazine and get money so people can write what they want, as long as I like it.

Couldn´t do that, I have some standards in science. But money is nice.

Haha this was literally to prove a point about predatory journals.

Got published over lockdown.

Amused literally every biologist I know xD

And then Iris pulled the article because they realized they were getting mocked by the entirety of the scientific community hahaha

But some of us already had it saved ;)

I can't believe how fast we've gone xD you and I are very near to having broken the previous record-month just by ourselves xD

Record: 12,918
Us combined: 10,411

... Hmmm I supposed that's still 2,507 away. Okay, I was wrong.

But math says we've done 80.5% of the previous record by ourselves lol and at this rate we very well may haha

I'm 👀 at how much you've both posted these past few days alone.

Also, I'm :( at there not being a bird of prey option on this poll. Ospreys and hawks deserve all the love. <333

When I was home for winter break for some reason a lot of bald eagles decided to hang out near the river and people from all over were coming to get pictures because it's a bit rare to see so many gathered at once, but there were easily over 30+ bald eagles. Really neat! :D Love seeing a whole bunch of a bird you aren't expecting. Saw that with a whole bunch of herons in the South once, and had never seen more than 1 at once and was just @_@_@__@ very struck by it. I'll try to find a picture later for this thread.

Vultures are very scary. I never realized from movies how huge they are - but they're definitely spooky. :]
